Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Therefore brothers select seven men who have a good reputation. Men who are full of spirit and wisdom that we may appoint to take care of this business. We will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.

Large quantities of meaningless words and repetition are not acceptable in prayer. The pagans think their gods will hear long and repetitious prayers. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
He then spoke this illustration to some who trusted in themselves. They were very self-righteous. They looked down on others: Two men went to the temple to pray. Do not pray like the hypocrites! They want everyone to see them in the houses of worship and on the street corners. I assure you they have been paid in full. Go to your room and close the door. Privately pray to your Father. When your Father sees you he will reward you.
After sending the crowd away, he went to the mountain to pray by himself. He was there alone that night.

Go to your room and close the door. Privately pray to your Father. When your Father sees you he will reward you.
Jehovah my God, I am your servant. Listen to my prayer. Grant the requests I make to you today. Watch over this Temple day and night. For this is the place where you have chosen to be worshiped. Hear me when I face this Temple and pray. Hear my prayers and the prayers of your people. In your home in heaven hear us and forgive us.
The next day they journeyed to the city. As they drew near, Peter went to the housetop to pray. It was about the sixth hour.

They said: The disciples of John fast often and make supplications. So do the disciples of the Pharisees. But yours eat and drink.
When they had ordained elders in every congregation they prayed with fasting. They commended them to God, on whom they believed.
