And he said to them: inconsiderate, and slow of heart to believe all things that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

and he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus was it necessary that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day,

But the things which God fore told by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Christ should suffer, he has thus fulfilled.

And Paul, according to his custom, went in to them, and, for three sabbath-days, he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and affirming that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead; and that this Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.

Having, therefore, obtained help from God, I have stood till this day, testifying both to small and to great, saying nothing else than the things which the prophets and Moses did say should come to pass: that Christ should suffer, and that he first, by his resurrection from the dead, should show light to the people, and to the Gentiles.

For I delivered to you among the first things, that which I also received: That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;

For the bodies of those animals whose blood, shed for sin, is carried by the high priest into the holiest, are burned with out the camp. Wherefore, Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people by his own blood, suffered without the gate.

From that time Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be put to death, and be raised again the third day.

saying: The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised the third day.

But I say to you, That Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him what they wished; so also shall the Son of man suffer at their hands.

And he answered and said to them: Elijah comes first, and restores all things, and, as it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be despised, so Elijah is to suffer.

But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

And the owner of the vineyard said: What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps, when they see him, they will reverence him. But when the vine-dressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying: This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. And they drove him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

And he said to them: I have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But for this purpose came I to this hour.

Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. And the tempter came to him and said: If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, and was there forty days, to be tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days; and when they were ended, he was afterward hungry. And the devil said to him: If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.

Then the devil took him into the holy city, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple,

And after the morsel was given, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him: What you do, do quickly.

I will not talk much more with you; for the prince of this world is coming, and has nothing in me.

And his tail drew along the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bring forth, that, when she had brought forth, he might devour her child.

The world can not hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

When they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying: Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there till I bring you word; for Herod is about to seek for the young child, to destroy him.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

For every one that does evil, hates the light, and comes not to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word which I spoke to you, The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

which none of the rulers of this age knew; for, had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.

He came to his own country, and his own people received him not.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused.

And when he came near, he looked upon the city, and wept over it, saying: Hadst thou known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which were for thy peace! But now, they are hid from thy eyes.

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
