'Behold' in the Bible
Behold, the [wicked and irreverent] man is pregnant with sin,And he conceives mischief and gives birth to lies.
The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven.His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of men.
For the Lord is [absolutely] righteous, He loves righteousness (virtue, morality, justice);The upright shall see His face.
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;Give light (life) to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
Let my verdict of vindication come from Your presence;May Your eyes look with equity and behold things that are just.
Look upon my affliction and my trouble,And forgive all my sins.
One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that I will seek:That I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life,To gaze upon the beauty [the delightful loveliness and majestic grandeur] of the LordAnd to meditate in His temple.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear Him [and worship Him with awe-inspired reverence and obedience],On those who hope [confidently] in His compassion and lovingkindness,
Yet he passed away, and lo, he was no more;I sought him, but he could not be found.
Mark the blameless man [who is spiritually complete], and behold the upright [who walks in moral integrity];There is a [good] future for the man of peace [because a life of honor blesses one’s descendants].
“Behold, You have made my days as [short as] hand widths,And my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight.Surely every man at his best is a mere breath [a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes]! Selah.
Then I said, “Behold, I come [to the throne];In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
I have proclaimed good news of righteousness [and the joy that comes from obedience to You] in the great assembly;Behold, I will not restrain my lips [from proclaiming Your righteousness],As You know, O Lord.
My soul (my life, my inner self) thirsts for God, for the living God.When will I come and see the face of God?
Come, behold the works of the Lord,Who has brought desolations and wonders on the earth.
For, lo, the kings assembled themselves,They [came and] passed by together.
I was brought forth in [a state of] wickedness;In sin my mother conceived me [and from my beginning I, too, was sinful].
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,And in the hidden part [of my heart] You will make me know wisdom.
Behold, God is my helper and ally;The Lord is the sustainer of my soul [my upholder].
Look! They lie in wait for my life;Fierce and powerful men [are uniting together to] launch an attack against me,Not for my wrongdoing nor for any sin of mine, O Lord.
Look how they belch out [insults] with their mouths;Swords [of sarcasm, ridicule, slander, and lies] are in their lips,For they say, “Who hears us?”
To Him who rides in the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,Behold, He sends out His voice, a mighty and majestic voice.
Behold, these are the ungodly,Who always prosper and are at ease [in the world]; they have increased in wealth.
For behold, those who are far from You will perish;You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful and have abandoned You.
“Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed outAnd the streams overflowed;Can He give bread also?Or will He provide meat for His people?”
For behold, Your enemies are in tumult,And those who hate You have raised their heads [in hatred of You].
See our shield, O God,And look at the face of Your anointed [the king as Your representative].
“I will mention Rahab (Egypt) and Babylon among those who know Me—Behold, Philistia and Tyre with Ethiopia (Cush)—‘This one was born there.’”
For behold, Your enemies, O Lord,For behold, Your enemies will perish;All who do evil will be scattered.
For He looked down from His holy height [of His sanctuary],From heaven the Lord gazed on the earth,
Open my eyes [to spiritual truth] so that I may beholdWonderful things from Your law.
I long for Your precepts;Renew me through Your righteousness.
I see the treacherous and loathe them,Because they do not respect Your law.
Behold, He who keeps IsraelWill neither slumber [briefly] nor sleep [soundly].
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,And as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,So our eyes look to the Lord our God,Until He is gracious and favorable toward us.
Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord,The fruit of the womb a reward.
Behold, for so shall the man be blessed and divinely favoredWho fears the Lord [and worships Him with obedience].
Behold, how good and how pleasant it isFor brothers to dwell together in unity!
Behold, bless and praise the Lord, all servants of the Lord (priests, Levites),Who stand and serve by night in the house of the Lord.
Even before there is a word on my tongue [still unspoken],Behold, O Lord, You know it all.
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;If I make my bed in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), behold, You are there.
