'Long' in the Bible

You made a reservoir between the walls for the waters of the ancient pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider the One who created it long ago.

Yahweh, You are my God;I will exalt You. I will praise Your name,for You have accomplished wonders,plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.

I long for You in the night;yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks You,for when Your judgments are in the land,the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Indeed! Topheth has been readyfor the king for a long time now.Its funeral pyre is deep and wide,with plenty of fire and wood.The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone,kindles it.

Have you not heard?I designed it long ago;I planned it in days gone by.I have now brought it to pass,and you have crushed fortified citiesinto piles of rubble.

Do not be startled or afraid.Have I not told you and declared it long ago?You are my witnesses!Is there any God but Me?There is no other Rock; I do not know any.

Speak up and present your case—yes, let them take counsel together.Who predicted this long ago?Who announced it from ancient times?Was it not I, Yahweh?There is no other God but Me,a righteous God and Savior;there is no one except Me.

I declare the end from the beginning,and from long ago what is not yet done,saying: My plan will take place,and I will do all My will.

I declared the past events long ago;they came out of My mouth; I proclaimed them.Suddenly I acted, and they occurred.

therefore I declared to you long ago.I announced it to you before it occurred,so you could not claim, ‘My idol caused them;my carved image and cast idol control them.’

They have been created now, and not long ago;you have not heard of them before today,so you could not claim, ‘I already knew them!’

You have never heard; you have never known;For a long time your ears have not been open.For I knew that you were very treacherous,and were known as a rebel from birth.

Wake up, wake up!Put on the strength of the Lord’s power.Wake up as in days past,as in generations of long ago.Wasn’t it You who hacked Rahab to pieces,who pierced the sea monster?

But you have forgotten the Lord, your Maker,who stretched out the heavensand laid the foundations of the earth.You are in constant dread all day longbecause of the fury of the oppressor,who has set himself to destroy.But where is the fury of the oppressor?

So now what have I here”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“that My people are taken away for nothing?Its rulers wail”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and My name is continually blasphemed all day long.

Who was it you dreaded and feared,so that you lied and didn’t remember Meor take it to heart?Have I not kept silent for such a long timeand you do not fear Me?

Some of you will rebuild the ancient ruins;you will restore the foundations laid long ago;you will be called the repairer of broken walls,the restorer of streets where people live.

I spread out My hands all day longto a rebellious peoplewho walk in the wrong path,following their own thoughts.

They say, ‘Keep to yourself,don’t come near me, for I am too holy for you!’These practices are smoke in My nostrils,a fire that burns all day long.
