'Look' in the Bible
Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the log in your own eye?
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a log in your eye?
“Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves.
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothes are in kings’ palaces.
This is the one it is written about:Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You;he will prepare Your way before You.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah’s proclamation; and look—something greater than Jonah is here!
The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look—something greater than Solomon is here!
Someone told Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You.”
Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says:You will listen and listen,yet never understand;and you will look and look,yet never perceive.
“See that you don’t look down on one of these little ones, because I tell you that in heaven their angels continually view the face of My Father in heaven.
Then Peter responded to Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You. So what will there be for us?”
Again, he sent out other slaves, and said, ‘Tell those who are invited: Look, I’ve prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
“If anyone tells you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Over here!’ do not believe it!
So if they tell you, ‘Look, He’s in the wilderness!’ don’t go out; ‘Look, He’s in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. Look, I’ve earned five more talents.’
“Then the man with two talents also approached. He said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. Look, I’ve earned two more talents.’
So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.’
Then He came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the time is near. The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Look, now you’ve heard the blasphemy!
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You,who will prepare Your way.
The Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”
A crowd was sitting around Him and told Him, “Look, Your mother, Your brothers, and Your sisters are outside asking for You.”
so thatthey may look and look,yet not perceive;they may listen and listen,yet not understand;otherwise, they might turn back—and be forgiven.”
And He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look.”When they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
He looked up and said, “I see people—they look to me like trees walking.”
Peter began to tell Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You.”
Then Peter remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that You cursed is withered.”
Should we pay, or should we not pay?”But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, “Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denarius to look at.”
As He was going out of the temple complex, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look! What massive stones! What impressive buildings!”
“Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah! Look—there!’ do not believe it!
Then He came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. Look, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Then Pilate questioned Him again, “Are You not answering anything? Look how many things they are accusing You of!”
When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “Look, He’s calling for Elijah!”
But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:
“Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the log in your own eye?
and sent them to the Lord, asking, “Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?”
When the men reached Him, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask You, ‘Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft robes? Look, those who are splendidly dressed and live in luxury are in royal palaces.
This is the one it is written about:Look, I am sending My messengerahead of You;he will prepare Your way before You.

Just then a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, because he’s my only child.
Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you.

Look at My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself! Touch Me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.”
And look, I am sending you what My Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”
When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look! The Lamb of God!”
“Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest.
Yet, look! He’s speaking publicly and they’re saying nothing to Him. Can it be true that the authorities know He is the Messiah?
You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
What is this remark He made: ‘You will look for Me, and you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
Then He said to them again, “I’m going away; you will look for Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I’m going, you cannot come.”
Fear no more, Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.
Then the Pharisees said to one another, “You see? You’ve accomplished nothing. Look—the world has gone after Him!”
“Children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for Me, and just as I told the Jews, ‘Where I am going you cannot come,’ so now I tell you.
Look: An hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
Why do you question Me? Question those who heard what I told them. Look, they know what I said.”
Pilate went outside again and said to them, “Look, I’m bringing Him outside to you to let you know I find no grounds for charging Him.”
Also, another Scripture says: They will look at the One they pierced.
But Mary stood outside facing the tomb, crying. As she was crying, she stooped to look into the tomb.
And they were astounded and amazed, saying, “Look, aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
Peter, along with John, looked at him intently and said, “Look at us.”
Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”
Someone came and reported to them, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple complex and teaching the people.”
“Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to bring this man’s blood on us!”
When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight. As he was approaching to look at it, the voice of the Lord came:
I am the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. So Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look.
“Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”
As they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, “Look, there’s water! What would keep me from being baptized?”
Now, look! The Lord’s hand is against you. You are going to be blind, and will not see the sun for a time.” Suddenly a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
Then as John was completing his life’s work, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the One. But look! Someone is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on His feet.’
Look, you scoffers,marvel and vanish away,because I am doing a work in your days,a work that you will never believe,even if someone were to explain it to you.”
and said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And, look! God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.’
when He said,Go to these people and say:You will listen and listen,yet never understand;and you will look and look,yet never perceive.
As it is written:Look! I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble overand a rock to trip over,yet the one who believes on Himwill not be put to shame.
One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat, and one who does not eat must not criticize one who does, because God has accepted him.
But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the tribunal of God.
Look at the people of Israel. Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in what is offered on the altar?
Don’t you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this!
Therefore, no one should look down on him. Send him on his way in peace so he can come to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.
Now if the ministry of death, chiseled in letters on stones, came with glory, so that the Israelites were not able to look directly at Moses’ face because of the glory from his face—a fading glory—
We are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the Israelites could not stare at the end of what was fading away,
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.
For He says:I heard you in an acceptable time,and I helped you in the day of salvation.Look, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation.
as unknown yet recognized;as dying and look—we live;as being disciplined yet not killed;
Look at what is obvious. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should remind himself of this: Just as he belongs to Christ, so do we.
