But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
So they went on their way from the presence of the
Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.
and from there to
Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia, a Roman colony; and we were staying in this city for some days.

But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both
Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen.
Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
according to Paul’s custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
And he entered
the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God.
Only conduct yourselves in a manner
worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
For I want you to know how great a
struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face,
