2 The priests were not able to enter the Lord’s temple because the glory of the Lord filled the temple of the Lord.

2 The priests could not enter into the Temple because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD's Temple.

The Temple Dedication

4 And, the king and all the people, were offering sacrifice before Yahweh.

4 (E)Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the Lord.

4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.

4 The king and all the people were offering sacrifices in the Lord’s presence.(D)

4 Then the king and all the people kept on offering sacrifices in the presence of the LORD.

5 And King Solomon offered a sacrifice - of oxen, twenty-two thousand, and of sheep, a hundred and twenty thousand, - and so the king and all the people, dedicated the house of God;

5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. Thus the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep. In this manner the king and all the people dedicated God’s temple.

5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep, which is how the king and all of the people dedicated God's Temple.

6 while, the priests, over their charges, were standing, the Levites also, with the instruments for the songs of Yahweh, which David the king had made, for giving thanks unto Yahweh, For, age-abiding, is his lovingkindness, when David offered praise by their means, - and, the priests, kept on blowing trumpets over against them, while, all Israel, were standing.

6 The priests stood at their posts, and (F)the Levites also, with the instruments of music to the Lord, which King David had made for giving praise to the Lord—“for His lovingkindness is everlasting”—whenever (a)he gave praise by their (b)means, while (G)the priests on the other side blew trumpets; and all Israel was standing.

6 And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.

6 The priests and the Levites were standing at their stations. The Levites had the musical instruments of the Lord, which King David had made to praise the Lord—“for His faithful love endures forever”—when he offered praise with them.(E) Across from the Levites, the priests were blowing trumpets, and all the people were standing.

6 The priests stood in waiting at their assigned places, along with the descendants of Levi who carried musical instruments used in service to the LORD that King David had made for giving thanks to the LORD because his gracious love is eternal whenever David, accompanied by priests sounding trumpets, offered praises while all of Israel stood in the assembly.

7 And Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of Yahweh, for he offered there the ascending-sacrifices, and the fat portions of the peace-offerings, - because, the altar of bronze which Solomon had made, was not able to receive the ascending-sacrifice and the meal-offering and the fat portions.

7 (H)Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord, for there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to contain the burnt offering, the grain offering and the fat.

7 Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.

7 Since the bronze altar that Solomon had made(F) could not accommodate the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat of the fellowship offerings, Solomon first consecrated the middle of the courtyard(G) that was in front of the Lord’s temple and then offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings there.(H)

7 Solomon also dedicated the middle of the court in front of the LORD's Temple by offering there burnt offerings and fat from peace offerings because the bronze altar that Solomon had made could not contain the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and fat portion offerings.

8 And Solomon made a festival - at that time - for seven days, and all Israel with him, an exceeding great convocation, - from the entering in of Hamath, unto the ravine of Egypt.

8 So (I)Solomon observed the feast at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly who came from the entrance of Hamath to the (J)brook of Egypt.

8 Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.

8 So Solomon and all Israel with him—a very great assembly, from the entrance to Hamath(a) to the Brook of Egypt—observed the festival at that time for seven days.

8 At that time Solomon also held a week-long festival attended by all of Israel. The assembly was very large, and included people from as far away as Lebo-hamath to the Wadi of Egypt.

9 And they made, on the eighth day, a closing feast, - because, the dedication of the altar, they had kept seven days and a festival seven days.

9 On the eighth day they held (K)a solemn assembly, for the dedication of the altar they observed seven days and the feast seven days.

9 And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

9 On the eighth day(b) they held a sacred assembly,(I) for the dedication of the altar lasted seven days and the festival seven days.

9 On the day after the festival ended, they convened a solemn assembly, because they had been dedicating the altar for seven days and observing the festival for seven days.

10 And, on the twenty-third of the seventh month, he sent the people away to their own homes, - rejoicing and glad in heart, over the goodness which Yahweh had performed unto David and unto Solomon, and unto Israel his people.

10 Then on the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and happy of heart because of the goodness that the Lord had shown to David and to Solomon and to His people Israel.

10 And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, rejoicing and with happy hearts for the goodness the Lord had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.

10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, King Solomon sent the people back home, and they returned rejoicing and in good spirits because of the goodness that the LORD had shown to David, to Solomon, and to his people Israel.

If My People Pray

11 Thus Solomon finished the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king, - and, all that had come in upon the heart of Solomon, to do in the house of Yahweh and in his own house, he prosperously executed.

11 (L)Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the king’s palace, and successfully completed all that (c)he had planned on doing in the house of the Lord and in his palace.

11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

11 So Solomon finished the Lord’s temple and the royal palace. Everything that had entered Solomon’s heart to do for the Lord’s temple and for his own palace succeeded.(J)

11 And so Solomon completed the LORD's Temple, bringing to completion everything that he had planned on doing for the LORD's Temple and for his own palace.

God's Charge To Solomon

12 Then appeared Yahweh unto Solomon by night, - and said to him, I have heard thy prayer, and have made choice of this place for myself, as a house of sacrifice: -

12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and (M)have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.

12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him:I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a temple of sacrifice.(K)

12 Later, the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night and told him:

13 If I shut up the heavens that there be no rain, or if I lay command on the locust, to devour the land, - or if I send pestilence, amongst my people:

13 (N)If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people,

13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

13 If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the grasshopper to consume the land, or if I send pestilence on My people,(L)

13 "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for a sacrificial temple to me. Whenever I close the skies so there is no rain, or whenever I command locusts to lay waste to the land, or whenever I send epidemics among my people,

14 if my people upon whom my Name is called shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will, I myself, hear out of the heavens, and forgive their sin, and heal their land.

14 (O)and My people (d)who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.(M)

14 when my people humble themselves the ones who are called by my name and pray, seek me, and turn away from their evil practices, I myself will listen from heaven, I will pardon their sins, and I will restore their land.

15 Now, mine eyes, shall be open, and, mine ears, attent, - to the prayer of this place.

15 (P)Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the (e)prayer offered in this place.

15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

15 My eyes will now be open and My ears attentive to prayer from this place.(N)

15 "Now therefore my eyes will remain open and my ears will remain listening to the prayers that are offered in this place.

16 Now, therefore, have I chosen and hallowed this house, that my Name may be there, unto times age-abiding, - and mine eyes and my heart shall he there, all the days.

16 For (Q)now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.

16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

16 And I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My name may be there forever; My eyes and My heart will be there at all times.(O)

16 Furthermore, I have chosen and have set apart for myself this Temple, intending my name to reside there forever. My eyes and my heart will reside there every day.

17 Thou, therefore, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, even to do according to all that I have commanded thee, - and, my statutes and regulations, thou wilt observe,

17 As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, even to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep My statutes and My ordinances,

17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;

17 As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,

17 Now as for you, if you commune with me like your father did, doing everything that I have commanded you, including obeying my statutes and my legal decisions,

18 then will I establish the throne of thy kingdom, - according as I covenanted to David thy father, saying - There shall not fail thee a man, to rule over Israel.

18 then I will establish your royal throne as I covenanted with your father David, saying, ‘(f)(R)You shall not lack a man to be ruler in Israel.’

18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

18 I will establish your royal throne, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man ruling in Israel.(P)

18 then I will make your royal throne secure, just as I agreed to do for your father David when I said, "You are to not lack a man to rule over Israel.'

19 But, if, ye yourselves, shall turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, - and shall go and serve other gods, and bow down to them,

19 (S)But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,

19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

19 However, if you turn away and abandon My statutes and My commands that I have set before you and if you go and serve other gods and worship them,(Q)

19 "But if you turn away and abandon my statutes and my commands that I have given you, and if you walk away to serve other gods and worship them,

20 then will I root you out from off the soil, which I have given to you, and, this house, which I have hallowed for my Name, will I cast off from before my face, - and will appoint it for a by-word and a mockery, among all the peoples;

20 (T)then I will uproot you from My land which I have given (g)you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it (U)a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.

20 then I will uproot Israel from the soil that I gave them, and this temple that I have sanctified for My name I will banish from My presence;(R) I will make it an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.(S)

20 then I will tear them up by the roots from the ground that I had given them! And as for this Temple that I have set apart for my name, I will throw it out of my sight and make it the butt of jokes and a means of ridicule among people worldwide!

21 and, this house which hath been renowned, all that pass by near it, shall be astonished, - and say, Wherefore hath Yahweh done, thus and thus, to this land, and to this house?

21 As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘(V)Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’

21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

21 As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say:(T) Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?

21 "Furthermore, even though this Temple seems so exalted, everyone who passes by it will be so astounded that they will ask, "Why did the LORD do this to this land and to this Temple?'

22 And men shall say, Because they forsook Yahweh the God of their fathers, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold of other gods, and bowed down to them, and served them, for this cause, hath he brought upon them, all this calamity.

22 And they will say, ‘Because (W)they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.’”

22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

22 Then they will say: Because they abandoned the Lord God of their ancestors who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They clung to other gods and worshiped and served them. Because of this, He brought all this ruin on them.

22 They will answer, "Because they abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors, who brought them from the land of Egypt, adopted other gods, worshipped them, and served them, therefore the LORD has brought all of this disaster on them.'"
