And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
And the Lord said to him,
“Get up and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying,
When they had
driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison.
I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today.
I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
1 Corinthians 15:9
For I am
the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
For you have heard of
my former manner of life in Judaism, how I used to persecute the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it;
as to zeal,
a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless.
1 Timothy 1:13
even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a
persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries,
false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as
breathe out violence.
And such as
They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
name of Israel be remembered no more.”
