And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both
Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen.
But going on from Perga, they arrived at
Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.
After three days
Paul called together those who were the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, “ Brethren, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
Of this way
some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people, he withdrew from them and took away the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
the high priest and all the Council of the elders can testify. From them I also received letters to the brethren, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished.
But we desire to hear from you what
your views are; for concerning this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere.”
They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
name of Israel be remembered no more.”
