And the Lord

hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.

But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.

“Wise in heart and mighty in strength,
Who has

defied Him without harm?

A man who hardens his neck after much reproof
Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.

“Because I know that you are

obstinate,

And your neck is an iron sinew
And your forehead bronze,

But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit became so

proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken away from him.

So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.
