1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying

1 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

1 This message came to me from the LORD:

2 Son of man Say to the Prince of Tyre. Thus, saith My Lord. Yahweh - Because lofty, is thy heart and thou hast said A GOD, am I, In the seat of God, have I taken my seat In the heart of the seas; Whereas thou art a man, and not a GOD, But hast set thy heart as the heart of God:

2 “Son of man, say to the (a)leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord (b)God,“Because your heart is lifted upAnd you have said, ‘(A)I am a god,I sit in the seat of (c)godsIn the heart of the seas’;Yet you are a (B)man and not God,Although you make your heart like the heart of God—

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says:Your(a) heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god;(A)I sit in the seat of godsin the heart of the sea.’Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heartas that of a god.

2 "Son of Man, tell Tyre's Commander-in-Chief, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Because your heart is arrogant, and because you keep saying, "I have taken my seat, I am a god, seated in God's seat right in the middle of the sea,' and because you're a man, and not a god, even though you pretend that you have a god-like heart"

3 Lo! wiser, thou than Daniel, - No secret, have they hidden from thee:

3 Behold, you are wiser than (C)Daniel; There is no secret that is a match for you.

3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

3 Yes, you are wiser than Daniel;(B)no secret is hidden from you!

3 Look! You're wiser than Daniel, aren't you? No secret is too mysterious for you!

4 In thy wisdom and in thine understanding, hast thou gotten thee wealth, - And hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasuries:

4 “By your wisdom and understandingYou have acquired (D)riches for yourselfAnd have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.

4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:

4 By your wisdom and understandingyou have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silverfor your treasuries.(C)

4 Your wisdom and understanding brought you phenomenal wealth. You've brought gold and silver into your treasuries.

5 By the greatness of thy wisdom and by thy traffic, hast thou multiplied thy riches, -And thy heart hath become lofty in thy riches:

5 “By your great wisdom, by your (E)tradeYou have increased your richesAnd your (F)heart is lifted up because of your riches—

5 By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:

5 By your great skill in tradingyou have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proudbecause of your wealth.”

5 By your great wisdom, by your skills in trading you have amassed wealth for yourself and your heart has become arrogant because of your wealth."

6 Therefore, Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, - Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God,

6 Therefore thus says the Lord God,‘Because you have (G)made your heartLike the heart of God,

6 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;

6 Therefore this is what the Lord God says:Because you regard your heart as that of a god,

6 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: "Because you've made your heart like that of God

7 Therefore behold me! bringing upon thee aliens, The terrible ones of the nations,- And they shall unsheathe their swords over the beauty of thy wisdom, And profane thy splendour:

7 Therefore, behold, I will bring (H)strangers upon you,The (I)most ruthless of the nations. And they will draw their swordsAgainst the beauty of your wisdomAnd defile your splendor.

7 Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

7 I am about to bring strangers against you, ruthless men from the nations. They will draw their swordsagainst your magnificent wisdomand will defile your splendor.(D)

7 Therefore, look! I'm bringing foreigners in your direction, the most terrifying of nations! They will direct their violence against the grandeur that you've created by your wisdom.

8 To the pit, shall they take thee down,- And thou shalt die the deaths of one thrust through, In the heart of the sec.

8 ‘They will bring you down to the pit,And you will die the (J)death of those who are slainIn the heart of the seas.

8 They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.

8 They will bring you down to the Pit,(E)and you will die a violent deathin the heart of the sea.

8 They'll send you down to the Pit, and you'll die defiled in the depths of the sea.

9 Wilt thou really say, God, am I, before him who is slaying thee; When, thou, art a man and not a God, in the hand of them who are piercing h thee?

9 ‘Will you still say, “I am a god,”In the presence of your slayer,Though you are a man and not God,In the hands of those who wound you?

9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.

9 Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’in the presence of those who kill(b) you?Yet you will be only a man, not a god,in the hands of those who kill you.

9 Is that when you'll say, "I'm God' to the face of those who will be killing you? After all, you're a man, and have never been a god, especially when you're under the control of those who will defile you!

10 The deaths of the uncircumcised, shalt thou die. by the hand of Miens, - - For I have spoken, Declareth My Lord Yahweh.

10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised(F)at the hands of strangers.(G)For I have spoken. This is the declaration of the Lord God.

10 You will die a death fit for the uncircumcised at the hand of foreigners." "for I have said it will be so,' declares the LORD."

11 Son of man Take thou up a dirge over the king of Tyre, - And thou shalt say to him Thus saith My Lord. Yahweh, Thou wast of finished proportions, Full of wisdom and Perfect in beauty:

11 Again the word of the Lord came to me saying,

11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

11 The word of the Lord came to me:

11 Another message came to me from the LORD, and this is what it said:

12 In Eden the garden of God, thou wast. Of every precious stone, was thy covering-Sardius. topaz, and diamond, Chrysolite beryl, and jasper, Sapphire carbuncle and emerald,- And of gold, was the work of thy timbrels and thy flutes within thee, In the day thou wast created, were they prepared:

12 “Son of man, (L)take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God,“You (d)had the seal of perfection,Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

12 “Son of man, lament(H) for the king of Tyre and say to him: This is what the Lord God says:You were the seal(c) of perfection,(d)full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.(I)

12 "Son of Man, start singing this lamentation for the king of Tyre. Tell him, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "You served as my model, my example of complete wisdom and perfect beauty.

13 Thou, wast the anointed cherub that covered, - When I appointed thee, in the holy mount of God, thou wast, Amid stones of fire, thou didst walk to and fro:

13 “You were in (M)Eden, the garden of God;(N)Every precious stone was your covering:The (O)ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your (e)(P)settings and (f)sockets,Was in you.On the day that you were createdThey were prepared.

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

13 You were in Eden,(J) the garden of God.Every kind of precious stone covered you:carnelian, topaz, and diamond,(e)beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire,(f) turquoise(g) and emerald.(h)Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold;(K)they were prepared on the day you were created.

13 You used to be in Eden God's paradise! You wore precious stones for clothing: ruby, topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and carbuncle. Your settings were crafted in gold, along with your engravings. On the day of your creation they had been prepared!

14 Complete, wast thou in thy ways, from the day thou wast created,- Until perversity was found in thee.

14 “You were the (Q)anointed cherub who (g)covers,And I placed you there. You were on the holy (R)mountain of God;You walked in the midst of the (S)stones of fire.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

14 You were an anointed guardian cherub,(L)for(i) I had appointed you.You were on the holy mountain of God;you walked among the fiery stones.

14 "You were the anointed cherub; having been set in place on the holy mountain of God, you walked in the midst of fiery stones.

15 By the abundance of fly traffic, they fled thy midst with violence And thou didst sin,- So I cast thee as profane a out of the mountain of God. And destroyed thee O covering cherub, from amid the stones of fire:

15 “You were (T)blameless in your waysFrom the day you were createdUntil (U)unrighteousness was found in you.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

15 From the day you were createdyou were blameless in your waysuntil wickedness was found in you.

15 You were blameless in your behavior from the day you were created until wickedness was discovered in you.

16 Lofty, was thy heart in thy beauty, Thou didst corrupt thy wisdom, because of thy splendour, - Upon the earth, did I cast thee. Before kings, did I set thee That they might look at thee:

16 “By the (V)abundance of your trade(h)You were internally (W)filled with violence,And you sinned; Therefore I have cast you as profaneFrom the mountain of God.And I have destroyed you, O (i)covering cherub,From the midst of the stones of fire.

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

16 Through the abundance of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I expelled you in disgracefrom the mountain of God,and banished you, guardian cherub,(j)from among the fiery stones.

16 Since your vast business dealings filled you with violent intent from top to bottom, you sinned, so I cast you away as defiled from the mountain of God. I destroyed you, you guardian cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.

17 Owing to the abounding of thine iniquities. In the perversity of thy traffic, Thou didst profane thy sanctuaries, Therefore brought I forth fire out of thy midst. the same devoured thee, And I turned thee to ashes on the ground, Before the eyes of all beholding thee:

17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your (X)beauty; You (Y)corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.I cast you to the ground;I put you before (Z)kings,That they may see you.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

17 Your heart became proud because of your beauty;(M)For the sake of your splendoryou corrupted your wisdom. So I threw you down to the earth;I made you a spectacle before kings.

17 Your heart grew arrogant because of your beauty; you annihilated your own wisdom because of your splendor. Then I threw you to the ground in the presence of kings, giving them a good look at you!

18 All that had known thee among the peoples were astounded over thee, - A terror, hast thou become, And tart not I Unto times age-abiding.

18 “By the multitude of your iniquities,In the unrighteousness of your tradeYou profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought (AA)fire from the midst of you;It has consumed you,And I have turned you to (AB)ashes on the earthIn the eyes of all who see you.

18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

18 You profaned your sanctuariesby the magnitude of your iniquitiesin your dishonest trade. So I made fire come from within you,and it consumed you.(N)I reduced you to ashes on the groundin the sight of everyone watching you.

18 By all of your iniquity and unrighteous businesses you defiled your sanctuaries, so I'm going to bring out fire from within you and burn you to ashes on the earth before the whole watching world!

19 Son of man, Set thy face towards Zidon, - And prophesy over it;

19 “All who know you among the peoplesAre appalled at you;You have become (j)(AC)terrifiedAnd you will cease to be (AD)forever.”’”

19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

19 All those who know you among the nationsare appalled at you.You have become an object of horrorand will never exist again.”(O)

19 Everyone who knows you throughout all the nations will be appalled at your calamity and you will no longer exist forever."'"

20 and thou shalt say - Thus saith My Lord. Yahweh, Behold me! against thee, O Zidon, Therefore will I get myself glory in thy midst, - And they shall know that I am Yahweh, When I have executed against her judgments And hallowed myself in her.

20 And the word of the Lord came to me saying,

20 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

20 The word of the Lord came to me:

20 Another message came to me from the LORD, who had this to say:

21 So then I will send against her, pestilence and blood in her streets, And the wounded shall fall in her midst by the sword upon her from every side, - And they shall know that, I, am Yahweh.

21 “Son of man, (AE)set your face toward (AF)Sidon, prophesy against her

21 Son of man, set thy face against Zidon, and prophesy against it,

21 “Son of man, turn your face toward Sidon(P) and prophesy against it.

21 "Son of Man, turn your attention to Sidon and prophesy against her.

Israel Will Be Blessed

22 And the house of Israel shall no more have a stinging prickle or a wounding thorn, of any round about them who used to despise them,- So shall they know that I an The Lord Yahweh.

22 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God,“Behold, I am against you, O Sidon,And I will (k)be glorified in your midst. Then they will know that I am the Lord when I (AG)execute judgments in her,And I will manifest My holiness in her.

22 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.

22 You are to say: This is what the Lord God says:Look! I am against you, Sidon,(Q)and I will display My glory within you. They will know that I am Yahwehwhen I execute judgments against her(R)and demonstrate My holiness through her.

22 Tell her: "Pay attention to me, Sidon! I'm against you, and I'm going to glorify myself right in your midst.' They'll learn that I am the LORD when I carry out these punishments and manifest my holiness in her midst.

Israel Gathered In Security

23 Thus saith My Lord, Yahweh, When I gather together the house of Israel, from the midst of the peoples among whom they have been scattered, and shall hallow myself in them before the eyes of the nations Then shall they dwell upon their own so, which I gave to my servant - to Jacob:

23 “For (AH)I will send pestilence to herAnd blood to her streets,And the (AI)wounded will (l)fall in her midstBy the sword upon her on every side; Then they will know that I am the Lord.

23 For I will send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

23 I will send a plague against her(S)and bloodshed in her streets;the slain will fall within her, while the sword is against her(k) on every side. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.

23 I'm going to send disease into that city and blood into her streets. People will drop dead in her midst from the violence done to her from every side. Then they'll learn that I am the Lord GOD."

24 Yea they shall dwell thereupon securely, Yea shall bud houses, and plant vineyards, and dwell securely, - When I have executed judgments on all that despised them on every side of them, So shall they know that, I, Yahweh am their God

24 And there will be no more for the house of Israel a (AJ)prickling brier or a painful thorn from any round about them who scorned them; then they will know that I am the Lord God.”

24 And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

24 “The house of Israel will no longer be hurt by(l) prickly briers or painful thorns(T) from all their neighbors who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.

24 "The house of Israel will never again suffer from painful briers and sharp thorn bushes that surround them on every side, and they will learn that I am the LORD.
