River Of The Temple, Division Of The Land And Its Boundaries

1 And he will turn me back to the door of the house; and behold, waters coming forth from under the threshold of the house to the east: for the face of the house eastward, and the waters coming down from under from the right shoulder of the house, from the south to the altar.

1 Then he brought me back to the (A)door of the house; and behold, (B)water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar.

1 Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

1 Then he brought me back to the entrance of the temple and there was water flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the temple faced east. The water was coming down from under the south side of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar.(A)

1 After this, he brought me back to the doorway to the Temple. To my amazement, there was water flowing out toward the east from beneath the threshold of the Temple! (The Temple faced eastward.) The water flowed down from beneath the right side of the Temple, that is, from the south-facing side where the altar was located.

2 And he will bring me forth the way of the gate of the north; and he will turn me round the way without to the gate without the way looking to the east; and behold, waters flowing from the right shoulder.

2 He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around (a)on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.

2 Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.

2 Next he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate that faced east; there the water was trickling from the south side.

2 Then he brought me out through the north gateway and around to the one outside that faces toward the east. To my amazement, water was trickling out from that part of the south side, too!

3 And in the going forth of the man eastward, and the line in his hand, and he will measure a thousand by the cubit, and he will cause me to pass through the waters; the waters of the soles.

3 When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles.

3 And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ancles.

3 As the man went out east with a measuring line in his hand,(B) he measured off a third of a mile(a) and led me through the water. It came up to my ankles.

3 As the man went out toward the east, he carried a measuring line in his hand. He measured out 1,000 cubits as he led me through water that was ankle-deep.

4 And he will measure a thousand, and he will cause me to pass through the waters; the waters of the knees. And he will measure a thousand, and cause me to pass through; the Waters of the loins.

4 Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins.

4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins.

4 Then he measured off a third of a mile(b) and led me through the water. It came up to my knees. He measured off another third of a mile(c) and led me through the water. It came up to my waist.

4 Then he measured out another 1,000 cubits, where he led me through water that was knee-deep. And then he measured out another 1,000 cubits, where the water was waist-deep.

5 And he will measure a thousand, a torrent which I shall not be able to pass through: for the waters rose, waters of swimming, a torrent which shall not be passed through.

5 Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a (C)river that could not be forded.

5 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.

5 Again he measured off a third of a mile(d), and it was a river that I could not cross on foot. For the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed on foot.

5 When he had measured out another 1,000 cubits, the water had become deep enough that I wasn't able to ford it. Instead, I would have had to swim through it.

6 And he will say to me, Didst thou see, son of man? And he will cause me to go, and he will turn me back upon the lip of the torrent

6 He said to me, “Son of man, have you (D)seen this?” Then he brought me (b)back to the bank of the river.

6 And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river.

6 He asked me, “Do you see this, son of man?” Then he led me back to the bank of the river.

6 Then, as he was bringing me back along the river bank, he asked me, "Son of Man, did you see all of this?"

7 In my turning back, and behold, upon the lip of the torrent very much wood from here and from them

7 Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many (E)trees on the one side and on the other.

7 Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.

7 When I had returned, I saw a very large number of trees along both sides of the riverbank.(C)

7 As we were coming back, I was amazed to see that there were many, many trees lining both banks of the river.

8 And he will say to me, These waters going forth to the circuit of the east, and they went down to Arabia and came into the sea: being brought forth to the sea and the waters were healed.

8 Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the (F)Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the (G)sea, and the waters of the sea become (c)fresh.

8 Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.

8 He said to me, “This water flows out to the eastern region and goes down to the Arabah. When it enters the sea, the sea of foul water,(e)(f) the water of the sea becomes fresh.(D)

8 He told me, "This river flows toward the eastern territories all the way down into the Arabah, and from there its water flows toward the Dead Sea, where the sea water turns fresh.

9 And it was every living soul that shall creep, to all where the two torrents shall come there, shall live: and there was very many fish, because these waters came there: and they shall be healed and all lived where the torrent shall come there.

9 It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the (d)river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others (e)become fresh; so (H)everything will live where the river goes.

9 And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

9 Every kind of living creature that swarms will live wherever the river flows,(g) and there will be a huge number of fish because this water goes there. Since the water will become fresh, there will be life everywhere the river goes.

9 It will support all kinds of living creatures that will thrive abundantly wherever the river flows. There will be a great many fish, because this water will flow there and turn the salt water fresh. As a result, everything will live wherever the river flows.

10 And it was the fisherman shall stand upon it from the fountain of the kid, even to the fountain of the two calves; they shall be a spreading for nets; their fish shall be according to its kind as the fish of the great sea very many.

10 And it will come about that (I)fishermen will stand beside it; from (J)Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the (K)spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the (L)Great Sea, (M)very many.

10 And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many.

10 Fishermen will stand beside it from En-gedi to En-eglaim.(h) These will become places where nets are spread out to dry. Their fish will consist of many different kinds, like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea.(E)

10 A day will come when fishermen will line its banks from En-gedi to En-eglaim there will be plenty of room to spread out nets. There will be all sorts of species of fish, as abundant as the fish that live in the Mediterranean Sea. There will be lots of them!

11 Its marshes and its pools and they shall not be healed; they were given marshes to salt

11 But its swamps and marshes will not become (f)fresh; they will be (g)left for (N)salt.

11 But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.

11 Yet its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be left for salt.

11 "The river delta will consist of swamps and marshes that will remain a salt water wetland preserve.

12 And upon the torrent shall come up upon its lip, from hence and from thence, every tree of food, its leaf shall not fade, and its fruit shall not be consumed: for its months it shall bear early fruit, for its waters from the holy place they come forth: and its fruits were for food and its leaf for medicine.

12 (O)By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of (P)trees for food. Their (Q)leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their (R)leaves for healing.”

12 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.

12 All kinds of trees providing food will grow along both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail.(F) Each month they will bear fresh fruit because the water comes from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be used for food and their leaves for medicine.”(G)

12 Lining each side of the river banks, all sorts of species of fruit trees will be growing. Their leaves will never wither and their fruit will never fail. They will bear fruit every month, because the water that nourishes them will be flowing from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food and their leaves will contain substances that promote healing."

The Borders Of The Land

13 Thus said the Lord Jehovah: This the bound by which ye shall inherit the land for the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph two portions.

13 Thus says the Lord (h)God, “This shall be the (S)boundary by which you shall divide the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two (T)portions.

13 Thus saith the Lord GOD; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions.

13 This is what the Lord God says: “This is(i) the border you will use to divide the land(H) as an inheritance for the 12 tribes of Israel. Joseph will receive two shares.(I)

13 This is what the Lord GOD says: "This is to be the territorial border by which you apportion the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel, with Joseph double-portioned.

14 And ye inherited it, each as his brother: which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers: and this land fell to you in inheritance.

14 You shall divide it for an inheritance, each one (i)equally with the other; for I (j)(U)swore to give it to your forefathers, and this land shall fall to you (k)as an inheritance.

14 And ye shall inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance.

14 You will inherit it in equal portions, since I swore(j) to give it to your ancestors.(J) So this land will fall to you as an inheritance.

14 Apportion it for their inheritances, distributing everything equally as if you were distributing things to your own brother, which is how I promised to give it to your ancestors. This way, the land will fall to you as an inheritance.

15 And this the bound of the land to the side of the north from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, to go to Zedad

15 “This shall be the boundary of the land: on the (V)north side, from the Great Sea by the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of (l)(W)Zedad;

15 And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad;

15 “This is to be the border of the land:On the north side(K) it will extend from the Mediterranean Sea by way of Hethlon and Lebo-hamath to Zedad,(k)

15 "This is to be the border for the land: on the north side, from the Mediterranean Sea by the Hethlon Road to the entrance of Zedad,

16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the bound of Damascus and between the bound of Hamath; the middle enclosure which is to the bound of Hauran.

16 (m)(X)Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of (Y)Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran.

16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran.

16 Berothah, and Sibraim (which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath), as far as Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran.

16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim (which lies between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath), and Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran.

17 And the bound from the sea was the enclosure of fountains, the hound of Damascus, and the north northward, and the bound of Hamath: And the side of the north.

17 The boundary shall (n)extend from the sea to (Z)Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus, and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

17 And the border from the sea shall be Hazarenan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

17 So the border will run from the sea to Hazar-enon at the border(L) of Damascus, with the territory of Hamath to the north. This will be the northern side.

17 The border is to proceed from the Mediterranean Sea to Hazer-enan (a border of Damascus), and on the north facing north is to be the border of Hamath. This is to be the north side.

18 And the side of the east from between Hauran and tom between Damascus, and from between Gilead and from between the land of Israel, Jordan, from the bound to the east sea shall ye measure: and the east side.

18 “The (AA)east side, from between Hauran, Damascus, (AB)Gilead and the land of Israel, shall be the (AC)Jordan; from the north border to the eastern sea you shall measure. This is the east side.

18 And the east side ye shall measure from Hauran, and from Damascus, and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the east sea. And this is the east side.

18 On the east side it will run between Hauran and Damascus, along the Jordan between Gilead and the land of Israel; you will measure from the northern border to the eastern sea.(l) This will be the eastern side.

18 "The eastern extremity is to proceed from between Hauran and Damascus, then between Gilead, and then through the land of Israel the Jordan River. You are to measure from the northern border to the Dead Sea. This is to be the eastern perimeter.

19 And the south side southward from Tamar even to the waters of contradiction in Kadesh, the torrent to the the great sea: and the south side south

19 “The (AD)south side toward the south shall extend from (AE)Tamar as far as the waters of (AF)Meribath-kadesh, to the (AG)brook of Egypt and to the (AH)Great Sea. This is the south side toward the south.

19 And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.

19 On the south side it will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh,(m) and on to the Brook of Egypt(M) as far as the Mediterranean Sea.(N) This will be the southern side.

19 "You are to determine the southern extremity running from Tamar as far as the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then from there proceeding to the Wadi, and then to the Mediterranean Sea. This is to be the southern perimeter.

20 And the side of the sea the great sea from the bound, even to over against the entrance of Hamath. This the side of the sea.

20 “The (AI)west side shall be the Great Sea, from the south border to a point opposite (o)(AJ)Lebo-hamath. This is the west side.

20 The west side also shall be the great sea from the border, till a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side.

20 On the west side the Mediterranean Sea will be the border, from the southern border up to a point opposite Lebo-hamath. This will be the western side.

20 "The western perimeter is to be the Mediterranean Sea, from the southernmost border to a location opposite the entrance to Hamath. This is to be the western perimeter.

21 And ye divided that land to you for the tribes of Israel.

21 “So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.

21 So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel.

21 “You are to divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.(O)

21 "You are to apportion this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel,

22 And ye shall cause it to fall in inheritance to you, and to the strangers sojourning in the midst of you, who begat sons in the midst of you: and they were to you as the nation among the sons of Israel with you they shall fall in the inheritance in the midst of the tribes of Israel.

22 You shall divide it by (AK)lot for an inheritance among yourselves and among the (AL)aliens who stay in your midst, who bring forth sons in your midst. And they shall be to you as the native-born among the sons of Israel; they shall be allotted an (AM)inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

22 And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

22 You will allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners living among you,(P) who have fathered children among you. You will treat them(n) like native-born Israelites; along with you, they will be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.

22 dividing it by lottery among yourselves and among the foreigners who live among you and bear children among you. You are to treat them like native-born Israelis. Among you they, too, are to be allotted an inheritance with the tribes of Israel.

23 And it was in the tribe which the stranger sojourned with it there shall ye give his inheritance, says the Lord Jehovah.

23 And in the tribe with which the alien stays, there you shall give him his inheritance,” declares the Lord God.

23 And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD.

23 In whatever tribe the foreigner lives, you will assign his inheritance there.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

23 Furthermore, you are to provide the foreigner's inheritance there in the tribe within which he remains," declares the Lord GOD.
