Carry One Another's Burdens
1 Brothers, if any one of you is overwhelmed by a [particular] sin, those of you who are spiritually minded should [attempt to] restore such a person [to faithfulness]. But do it in a gentle way, being very careful that you yourself do not become tempted [to get involved in any sin].
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
1 (A)Brethren, even if (a)anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are (B)spiritual, (C)restore such a one (D)in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
1 Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle(A) spirit,(B) watching out for yourselves so you also won’t be tempted.(C)
1 Brothers, if a person is caught doing something wrong, those of you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. Watch out for yourself so that you are not tempted as well.
4 But let each person test his own accomplishments so that he can determine if he should get credit for them or if his neighbor should.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
4 But each one must (H)examine his own work, and then he will have reason for (I)boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another.
4 But each person should examine his own work,(F) and then he will have a reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in respect to someone else.
4 Each person must examine his own actions, and then he can boast about his own accomplishments and not about someone else.
Do Good To All People
Life Is Like Planting A Field
7 Do not be deceived; God will not be fooled. Whatever a person does with his life, he will reap [the results of it].
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap,
7 Stop being deceived; God is not to be ridiculed. A person harvests whatever he plants:
8 If he engages in things to satisfy his own sinful desires, he will be [spiritually] destroyed for such conduct, but the one who engages in things to please the Holy Spirit will receive never ending life [as a result].
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
8 (P)For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap (Q)corruption, but (R)the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit(H) will reap eternal life(I) from the Spirit.
8 The person who sows through human means will harvest decay from human means, but the person who sows in the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit.
9 And we should not become tired of doing good things, for eventually we will receive [never ending life] if we do not give up.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
9 So we must not get tired(J) of doing good,(K) for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.
9 Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
10 So then, we should do the right thing toward every person whenever we have the opportunity, and especially toward people who are part of God's family [i.e., those making up "the faith"].
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
10 So then, (b)(U)while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the (V)household of (W)the faith.
10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work(L) for the good(M) of all, especially for those who belong to the household(N) of faith.(O)
10 So then, whenever we have the opportunity, let's practice doing good to everyone, especially to the family of faith.
A Final Warning
11 Look at how large the letters are that I am using in writing this, and I am writing them myself.
11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.
11 Look at what large letters I use as I write to you in my own handwriting.
11 Look at how large these letters are because I am writing with my own hand!
12 Those who attempt to make a good impression by trying to force you to be circumcised really want only to avoid being persecuted for their commitment to Christ.
12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
12 Those who desire (Y)to make a good showing in the flesh try to (Z)compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they (AA)will not be persecuted (d)for the cross of Christ.
12 Those who want to make a good impression in the flesh(P) are the ones who would compel you to be circumcised(Q)—but only to avoid being persecuted(R) for the cross(S) of Christ.
12 These people who want to impress others by their external appearance are trying to force you to be circumcised, simply to avoid being persecuted for the cross of the Messiah.
13 For not even those who practice circumcision comply with [the requirements of] the law of Moses, yet they want you to be circumcised so they can take credit for this physical evidence [of your compliance with the law of Moses].
13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
13 For those who (e)are circumcised do not even (AB)keep (f)the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may (AC)boast in your flesh.
13 For even the circumcised don’t keep(T) the law themselves; however, they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.
13 Why, not even those who are circumcised obey the Law! They simply want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your external appearance.
14 But the last thing I want to do is brag [about such things]. For [if I had any bragging to do at all], it would be about [salvation through] the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is through Him that this [sinful] world has been crucified [i.e., died] as far as I am concerned and I have been crucified [i.e., died] as far as it is concerned.
14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
14 But (AD)may it never be that I would boast, (AE)except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, (AF)through (g)which the world has been crucified to me, and (AG)I to the world.
14 But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.
14 But may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world!
15 For it does not matter whether a person practices circumcision or refrains from practicing it; what really matters is [whether or not he is] a new creature [in the eyes of God].
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
15 For(a) both circumcision and uncircumcision(U) mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.(V)
15 For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. Rather, what matters is being a new creation.
16 To all those people who live by this rule, may there be peace and mercy [from God] in their lives; that is, upon [those people who are truly] God's "Israel" [i.e., the church].
16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
16 And those who will (i)walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the (AJ)Israel of God.
16 Now may peace be on all those who live by this principle, and may mercy be on the Israel of God.
Conclusion And Benediction
17 From now on no one should harass me [about such matters] for I carry around on my body the scars [left there in my service] for Christ.
17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, because I bear on my body scars for the cause of Jesus.(X)
17 Let no one make any more trouble for me, because I carry the scars of Jesus on my own body.
