Abram's Journey

4 And Abram went as the LORD bade him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy five years old, when he went out of Haran.

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

4 So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and (G)Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.(G)

4 So Abram left there, as the LORD had directed him, and Lot accompanied him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his brother's son, with all their goods which they had gotten, and souls which they had begotten in Haran. And they departed to go into the land of Canaan. And when they were come into the land of Canaan,

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

5 Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their (H)possessions which they had accumulated, and (I)the (e)persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they (f)set out for the land of Canaan; (J)thus they came to the land of Canaan.

5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated, and the people he had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,

5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated, and the servants he had acquired while living in Haran. Then they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they arrived in the land of Canaan,

6 Abram went forth into the land till he came unto a place called Shechem, and unto the oak of Moreh. And the Cananites dwelled then in the land.

6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

6 Abram passed through the land as far as the site of (K)Shechem, to the (g)oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.

6 Abram passed through the land to the site of Shechem,(H) at the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

6 Abram traveled through the land to the place called Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

7 Then the LORD appeared unto Abram and said, "Unto thy seed will I give this land." And he built an altar there unto the LORD which appeared to him.

7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

7 The Lord (L)appeared to Abram and said, “(M)To your (h)descendants I will give this land.” So he built (N)an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.”(I) So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "I'll give this land to your descendants." So Abram built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

8 Then departed he thence unto a mountain that lieth on the east side of Bethel and pitched his tent - Bethel being on the west side, and Ai on the east - and he built there an altar unto the LORD, and called on the name of the LORD.

8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

8 Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with (O)Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and (P)called upon the name of the Lord.

8 From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to Yahweh there, and he called on the name of Yahweh.(J)

8 From there Abram traveled on to the hill country east of Bethel and set up his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.

9 And then Abram departed and took his journey southward.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

9 Abram journeyed on, continuing toward (Q)the (i)Negev.

9 Then Abram journeyed by stages to the Negev.

9 Then Abram traveled on, continuing into the Negev.

Abram In Egypt

10 After this there came a dearth in the land. And Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the dearth was sore in the land.

10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

10 Now there was (R)a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was (S)severe in the land.

10 There was a famine in the land,(K) so Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine in the land was severe.

10 There was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt to live because the famine was so severe.

11 And when he was come nigh for to enter into Egypt, he said unto Sarai his wife, "Behold, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon.

11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:

11 It came about when he (j)came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a (k)(T)beautiful woman;

11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “Look, I know what a beautiful woman you are.

11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he told his wife Sarai, "Look, I'm aware that you're a beautiful woman.

12 It will come to pass, therefore, when the Egyptians see thee, that they will say, 'she is his wife.' And so shall they slay me and save thee.

12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

12 (U)and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.

12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ They will kill me but let you live.(L)

12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, "She is his wife.' Then they'll kill me, but allow you to live.

13 Say, I pray thee therefore, that thou art my sister; that I may fare the better by reason of thee, and that my soul may live for thy sake."

13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

13 Please say that you are (V)my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that (l)(W)I may live on account of you.”

13 Please say you’re my sister so it will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared on your account.”

13 Please say that you are my sister, so things will go well for me for your sake. That way, you'll be saving my life."

14 As soon as he came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman that she was very fair.

14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

14 It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians (m)saw that the woman was very beautiful.

14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.

14 As Abram was entering Egypt, the Egyptians noticed how beautiful Sarai was.

15 And Pharaoh's lords saw her also, and praised her unto Pharaoh, so that she was taken into Pharaoh's house;

15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

15 Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and (X)the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.

15 Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, so the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s household.

15 When Pharaoh's officials saw her, they brought her to the attention of Pharaoh and took the woman to Pharaoh's palace.

16 which entreated Abram well for her sake, so that he had sheep, oxen and he-asses, men servants, maid servants, she-asses and camels.

16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

16 Therefore (Y)he treated Abram well for her sake; and (n)(Z)gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.

16 He treated Abram well because of her, and Abram acquired flocks and herds, male and female donkeys, male and female slaves, and camels.

16 He treated Abram well because of her, so Abram acquired sheep, oxen, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.

17 But God plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues, because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.

17 But the Lord (AA)struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

17 But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram’s wife Sarai.(M)

17 But the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, "Why hast thou thus dealt with me? Wherefore toldest thou me not that she was thy wife?

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “(AB)What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

18 So Pharaoh sent for Abram and said, “What have you done to me? Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?

18 Pharaoh summoned Abram and asked, "What have you done to me! Why didn't you tell me that she was your wife?

19 Why saidest thou that she was thy sister, and causedest me to take her to my wife? But now, lo, there is thy wife: take her and be walking."

19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, (o)here is your wife, take her and go.”

19 Why did you say, ‘She’s my sister,’ so that I took her as my wife? Now, here is your wife. Take her and go!”

19 Why did you say, "She is my sister,' so that I took her as a wife for myself? Now, here is your wife! Take her and get out!"

20 Pharaoh also gave a charge unto his men over Abram, to lead him out, with his wife and all that he had.

20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

20 Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they (p)escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

20 Then Pharaoh gave his men orders about him, and they sent him away with his wife and all he had.

20 So Pharaoh assigned men to Abram, and they escorted him, his wife, and all that he had out of the country.
