Warning Not To Neglect Salvation

1 Therefore we must give still more heed to what we were taught, for fear we should drift away.

1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

2 For, if the Message which was delivered by angels had its authority confirmed, so that every offence against it, or neglect of it, met with a fitting requital,

2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

2 For if the word (B)spoken through (C)angels proved (b)unalterable, and (D)every transgression and disobedience received a just (c)(E)penalty,

2 For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding(a)(A) and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment,(B)

2 because if the message spoken by angels was reliable, and every violation and act of disobedience received its just punishment,

3 how can we, of all people, expect to escape, if we disregard so great a Salvation? It was the Master who at the outset spoke of this Salvation, and its authority was confirmed for us by those who heard him,

3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

3 (F)how will we escape if we neglect so great a (G)salvation? (d)After it was at the first (H)spoken through the Lord, it was (I)confirmed to us by those who heard,

3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.(C)

3 how will we escape if we neglect a salvation as great as this? It was first proclaimed by the Lord himself, and then it was confirmed to us by those who heard him,

4 while God himself added his testimony to it by signs, and marvels, and many different miracles, as well as by imparting the Holy Spirit as he saw fit.

4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

4 God also testifying with them, both by (J)signs and wonders and by (K)various (e)miracles and by (f)(L)gifts of the Holy Spirit (M)according to His own will.

4 At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.(D)

4 while God added his testimony through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

The Son's Humiliation And Suffering

5 God has not given to angels the control of that Future World of which we are speaking!

5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

5 For He did not subject to angels (g)(N)the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.

5 For He has not subjected to angels the world to come that we are talking about.

5 For he did not put the coming world we are talking about under the control of angels.

6 No; a writer has declared somewhere-- 'What is Man that thou shouldst remember him? Or a Son of Man that thou shouldst regard him?

6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

6 But one has testified (O)somewhere, saying,(P)What is man, that You remember him?Or the son of man, that You are concerned about him?

6 But one has somewhere testified:What is man that You remember him,or the son of man that You care for him?

6 Instead, someone has declared somewhere, "What is man that you should remember him, or the son of man that you should care for him?

7 Thou hast made him, for a while, lower than angels; With glory and honour thou hast crowned him; Thou hast set him over all that thy hands have made;

7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

7 (Q)You have made him (h)for a little while lower than the angels;You have crowned him with glory and honor,(i)And have appointed him over the works of Your hands;

7 You made him lower than the angelsfor a short time;You crowned him with glory and honor(b)

7 You made him a little lower than the angels, yet you crowned him with glory and honor

8 Thou hast placed all things beneath his feet.' This 'placing of everything' under man means that there was nothing which was not placed under him. As yet, however, we do not see everything placed under man.

8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

8 (R)You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now (S)we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

8 and subjected everything under his feet.(c)For in subjecting everything to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. As it is, we do not yet see everything subjected to him.(E)

8 and put everything under his feet."

9 What our eyes do see is Jesus, who was made for a while lower than angels, now, because of his sufferings and death, crowned with glory and honour; so that his tasting the bitterness of death should, in God's loving-kindness, be on behalf of all mankind.

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

9 But we do see Him who was (T)made (j)for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, (U)because of the suffering of death (V)crowned with glory and honor, so that (W)by the grace of God He might (X)taste death (Y)for everyone.

9 But we do see Jesus—made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace He might taste death for everyone—crowned with glory and honor(F) because of His suffering in death.(G)

9 Now when God put everything under him, he left nothing outside his control. However, at the present time we do not yet see everything put under him. But we do see someone who was made a little lower than the angels. He is Jesus, who is crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might experience death for everyone.

10 It was, indeed, fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, should, when leading many sons to glory, make the author of their Salvation perfect through suffering.

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

10 For (Z)it was fitting for Him, (AA)for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to (AB)perfect the (k)(AC)author of their salvation through sufferings.

10 For in bringing many sons to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God—all things exist for Him and through Him—should make the source(d) of their salvation perfect through sufferings.(H)

10 It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering as part of his plan to glorify many children,

Jesus Became One Of Us To Help Us

11 For he who purifies, and those whom he purifies, all spring from One; and therefore he is not ashamed to call them 'Brothers.'

11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

11 For both He who (AD)sanctifies and those who (AE)are (l)sanctified are all (AF)from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them (AG)brethren,

11 For the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father.(e) That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers,(I)

11 because both the one who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified all have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers

12 He says-- 'I will tell of thy Name to my Brothers, In the midst of the congregation I will sing thy praise.'

12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

12 saying,(AH)I will proclaim Your name to My brethren,In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.”

12 saying:I will proclaim Your name to My brothers;I will sing hymns to You in the congregation.(J)(f)

12 when he says, "I will announce your name to my brothers. I will praise you within the congregation."

13 And again-- 'As for me, I will put my trust in God.' And yet again-- 'See, here am I and the children whom God gave me.'

13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

13 And again,(AI)I will put My trust in Him.”And again,(AJ)Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.”

13 Again, I will trust in Him.(g) And again, Here I am with the children God gave Me.(K)(h)

13 And again, "I will trust him." And again, "I am here with the children God has given me."

14 Therefore, since human nature is the common heritage of 'the Children,' Jesus also shared it, in order that by death he might render powerless him whose power lies in death--that is, the Devil--

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

14 Therefore, since the children share in (m)(AK)flesh and blood, (AL)He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that (AM)through death He might render powerless (AN)him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

14 Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil(L)

14 Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, he himself also shared the same things, so that by his death he might destroy the one who has the power of death (that is, the Devil)

15 and so might deliver all those who, from fear of death, had all their lives been living in slavery.

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

15 and might free those who were slaves all their lives because they were terrified by death.

16 It was not, surely, to the help of the angels that Jesus came, but 'to the help of the descendants of Abraham.'

16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

16 For assuredly He does not (n)give help to angels, but He gives help to the (o)descendant of Abraham.

16 For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham’s offspring.

16 For it is clear that he did not come to help angels. No, he came to help Abraham's descendants,

17 And consequently it was necessary that he should in all points be made like 'his Brothers,' in order that he might prove a merciful as well as a faithful High Priest in man's relations with God, for the purpose of expiating the sins of his People.

17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

17 Therefore, He (p)had (AP)to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might (AQ)become a merciful and faithful (AR)high priest in (AS)things pertaining to God, to (AT)make propitiation for the sins of the people.

17 Therefore, He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service(i) to God, to make propitiation(N) for the sins of the people.(O)

17 thereby becoming like his brothers in every way, so that he could be a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God and could atone for the people's sins.

18 The fact that he himself suffered under temptation enables him to help those who are tempted.

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

18 For since He Himself was (AU)tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

18 For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.

18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
