A Call To Yahweh

1 "Come on! Let's return to the Lord! He himself has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us! He has injured us, but he will bandage our wounds!

1 (A)Come, let us return to the Lord. For (B)He has torn us, but (C)He will heal us;He has (a)wounded us, but He will (D)bandage us.

1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

1 Come, let us return to the Lord.(A)For He has torn us,(B)and He will heal us;(C)He has wounded us,and He will bind up our wounds.(D)

1 "Come, let us return to the LORD; even though he has torn us, he will heal us. Even though he has wounded us, he will bind our wounds.

2 He will restore us in a very short time; he will heal us in a little while, so that we may live in his presence.

2 “He will (E)revive us after two days;He will (F)raise us up on the third day,That we may live before Him.

2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

2 He will revive us after two days,(E)and on the third day He will raise us upso we can live in His presence.(F)

2 After two days, he will restore us to life, on the third day he will raise us up, and we will live in his presence.

3 So let us acknowledge him! Let us seek to acknowledge the Lord! He will come to our rescue as certainly as the appearance of the dawn, as certainly as the winter rain comes, as certainly as the spring rain that waters the land."

3 “So let us (G)know, let us press on to know the Lord. His (H)going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the (I)rain,Like the spring rain watering the earth.”

3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

3 Let us strive to know the Lord.(G)His appearance is as sure as the dawn.(H)He will come to us like the rain,(I)like the spring showers that water the land.

3 Let us know, let us pursue knowledge of the LORD; his coming is as certain as the dawn. He will come to us like the rain, like the autumn and spring rains come on the earth.

The Lord's First Lament

4 What am I going to do with you, O Ephraim? What am I going to do with you, O Judah? For your faithfulness is as fleeting as the morning mist; it disappears as quickly as dawn's dew!

4 What shall I do with you, O (J)Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? For your (b)loyalty is like a (K)morning cloudAnd like the dew which goes away early.

4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

4 What am I going to do with you, Ephraim?(J)What am I going to do with you, Judah?Your loyalty is like the morning mist(K)and like the early dew that vanishes.

4 "What am I to do with you, Ephraim? What am I to do with you, Judah? Your love is like a morning rain cloud it passes away like the morning dew.

5 Therefore, I will certainly cut you into pieces at the hands of the prophets; I will certainly kill you in fulfillment of my oracles of judgment; for my judgment will come forth like the light of the dawn.

5 Therefore I have (L)hewn them in pieces by the prophets;I have slain them by the (M)words of My mouth; And the judgments on you are like the light that goes forth.

5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

5 This is why I have used the prophetsto cut them down;(a)(L)I have killed them with the words of My mouth. My judgment strikes like lightning.(b)

5 Therefore I cut them to pieces by the prophets, killing them by the words from my mouth. The verdict against you shines like a beacon.

6 For I delight in faithfulness, not simply in sacrifice; I delight in acknowledging God, not simply in whole burnt offerings.

6 For (N)I delight in loyalty (O)rather than sacrifice,And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

6 For I desire loyalty and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God(M) rather than burnt offerings.(N)

6 For it is love that I seek, and not sacrifice; knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

7 At Adam they broke the covenant; Oh how they were unfaithful to me!

7 But (P)like (c)Adam they have (Q)transgressed the covenant; There they have (R)dealt treacherously against Me.

7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

7 But they, like Adam,(c) have violated the covenant;(O)there they have betrayed Me.(P)

7 "But like Adam, they broke the covenant; in this they have acted deceitfully against me.

8 Gilead is a city full of evildoers; its streets are stained with bloody footprints!

8 (S)Gilead is a city of wrongdoers,Tracked with (T)bloody footprints.

8 Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.

8 Gilead is a city of evildoers,(Q)tracked with bloody footprints.(R)

8 Gilead is a lawless town; it is polluted by bloodshed.

9 The company of priests is like a gang of robbers, lying in ambush to pounce on a victim. They commit murder on the road to Shechem; they have done heinous crimes!

9 And as (U)raiders wait for a man,So a band of priests (V)murder on the way to Shechem;Surely they have committed (d)(W)crime.

9 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.

9 Like raiders who wait in ambush for someone,(S)a band of priests murders on the road to Shechem.(T)They commit atrocities.(U)

9 Like a gang of thieves that stalk a man, priests commit murder along the road to Shechem, committing shameful crimes.

10 I have seen a disgusting thing in the temple of Israel: there Ephraim practices temple prostitution and Judah defiles itself.

10 In the house of Israel I have seen a (X)horrible thing;Ephraim’s (Y)harlotry is there, Israel has defiled itself.

10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.

10 I have seen something horrible(V) in the house of Israel:Ephraim’s promiscuity is there;(W) Israel is defiled.

10 I have seen a horrible evil in the house of Israel Ephraim's promiscuity. Israel is defiled.

Ephraim's Guilt

11 Whenever I want to restore the fortunes of my people,

11 Also, O Judah, there is a (Z)harvest appointed for you,When I (AA)restore the fortunes of My people.

11 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.

11 A harvest is also appointed for you, Judah.(X)When I(d) return My people from captivity,(Y) >

11 "So, Judah, a harvest has been appointed for you when I restore my people from captivity."
