1 “I permitted Myself to be sought by (A)those who did not ask for Me;I permitted Myself to be found by those who did not seek Me.I said, ‘Here am I, here am I,’To a nation which (B)did not call on My name.
1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.
1 "I let myself be sought by those who didn't ask for me; I let myself be found by those who didn't seek me. I said, "Here I am! Here I am!' to a nation that didn't call on my name.
1 I was [ready to be] inquired of by those who asked not; I was [ready to be] found by those who sought Me not. I said, Here I am, here I am [says I Am] to a nation [Israel] that has not called on My name.
2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;
2 I held out my hands all day long to a disobedient people, who walk in a way that isn't good, following their own inclinations
2 I have spread out My hands all the day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts -- "
3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
3 a people who continually provoke me to my face; they keep sacrificing in gardens and waving their hands over stone altars;
3 A people who provoke Me to My face continually, sacrificing [to idols] in gardens and burning incense upon bricks [instead of at God's prescribed altar];
4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
4 who sit among graves, and spend the night in secret places; who eat pigs' meat, with the broth of detestable things in their pots;
4 Who sit among the graves [trying to talk with the dead] and lodge among the secret places [or caves where familiar spirits were thought to dwell]; who eat swine's flesh, and the broth of abominable and loathsome things is in their vessels;
5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.
5 They say, ‘Keep to yourself,don’t come near me, for I am too holy for you!’These practices are smoke in My nostrils,a fire that burns all day long.
5 who say, "Keep to yourself!' "Don't touch me!' and "I am too holy for you!' "Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day long.
5 Who say, Keep to yourself; do not come near me, for I am set apart from you [and lest I sanctify you]! These are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all the day.
6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,
6 Watch out! It stands written before me: "I won't keep silent, but I will pay back in full; I'll indeed repay into their laps
6 Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silence but will repay; yes, I will repay into their bosom
7 Both (c)their own (M)iniquities and the iniquities of their fathers together,” says the Lord.“Because they have (N)burned incense on the mountainsAnd (O)scorned Me on the hills,Therefore I will (P)measure their former work into their bosom.”
7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.
7 for your iniquities and the iniquities(G)of your(e) fathers together,”says the Lord.“Because they burned incense on the mountainsand reproached Me on the hills,(H)I will reward them fully(f)for their former deeds.”
7 both your iniquities and your ancestors' iniquities together,'' says the LORD. "Because they offered incense on the mountains and insulted me on hills, I'll measure into their laps full payment for their earlier actions."
7 Both your own iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers, says the Lord. Because they too burned incense upon the mountains and reviled and blasphemed Me upon the hills, therefore will I measure and stretch out their former doings into their own bosom.
8 Thus says the Lord,“As the new wine is found in the cluster,And one says, ‘Do not destroy it, for there is (d)benefit in it,’So I will act on behalf of My servantsIn order (Q)not to destroy (e)all of them.
8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
8 This is what the LORD says: "Just as new wine is found in the cluster, and people have said, "Don't destroy it, for there is a gift in it,' so I'll act for my servants' sake, by not destroying them all.
8 Thus says the Lord: As the juice [of the grape] is found in the cluster, and one says, Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it, so will I do for My servants' sake, that I may not destroy them all.
9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
9 I'll bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah they will inherit my mountains; my chosen people will inherit it, and my servants will live there.
9 And I will bring forth an offspring from Jacob, and from Judah an inheritor of My mountains; My chosen and elect will inherit it, and My servants will dwell there.
10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
10 Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a fold for herds, for my people who have sought me.
10 And [the plain of] Sharon shall be a pasture and fold for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for My people who seek Me, inquire of Me, and require Me [by right of their necessity and by right of My invitation].
11 But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.
11 But as for you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill drink offerings for Destiny,
11 But you who forsake the Lord, who forget and ignore My holy Mount [Zion], who prepare a table for Gad [the Babylonian god of fortune] and who furnish mixed drinks for Meni [the god of destiny] -- "
12 I will destine you for the (AA)sword,And all of you will bow down to the (AB)slaughter.Because I called, but you (AC)did not answer;I spoke, but you did not hear.And you did evil in My sightAnd chose that in which I did not delight.”
12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
12 I will destine you for the sword,and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered,because I called and you did not answer,I spoke and you did not hear;you did what was evil in My sightand chose what I did not delight in.(O)
12 I'll consign you to the sword, and all of you will bend down for the slaughter because when I called, you didn't answer, when I spoke, you didn't listen; but you did what was evil in my sight, and chose what I took no pleasure in."
12 I will destine you [says the Lord] for the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter, because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen or obey. But you did what was evil in My eyes, and you chose that in which I did not delight.
13 Therefore, thus says the Lord (h)God,“Behold, My servants will (AD)eat, but you will be (AE)hungry.Behold, My servants will (AF)drink, but you will be (AG)thirsty.Behold, My servants will (AH)rejoice, but you will be (AI)put to shame.
13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:
13 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:My servants will eat,but you will be hungry;My servants will drink,but you will be thirsty;My servants will rejoice,but you will be put to shame.
13 Therefore, this is what the LORD says: "See, my servants will eat, but you'll go hungry; my servants will drink, but you'll go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you'll be put to shame.
13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame.
14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
14 My servants will shout for joy from a glad heart,but you will cry out from an anguished heart,and you will lament out of a broken spirit.
14 My servants will sing in gladness of heart, but you'll cry for help from anguish of heart, and you'll howl from brokenness of spirit.
14 Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry out for pain and sorrow of heart and shall wail and howl for anguish, vexation, and breaking of spirit.
15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:
15 You'll leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse, and the Lord GOD will put you to death permanently.
15 And you will leave your name to My chosen [to those who will use it] for a curse; and the Lord God will slay you, but He will call His servants by another name [as much greater than the former name as the name Israel was greater than the name Jacob].
16 “Because he who (l)is blessed in the earthWill (m)be blessed by the (AN)God of truth;And he who swears in the earthWill (AO)swear by the God of truth;Because the former troubles are forgotten,And because they are hidden from My sight!
16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.
16 Then whoever takes an oath by the God of faithfulness, and whoever takes an oath in the land, will swear by the God of faithfulness, because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my eyes.
16 So [it shall be] that he who invokes a blessing on himself in the land shall do so by saying, May the God of truth and fidelity [the Amen] bless me; and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth and faithfulness to His promises [the Amen], because the former troubles are forgotten and because they are hidden from My eyes.
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
17 Take notice! I'm about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things won't be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth. And the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
18 Then be glad and rejoice foreverin what I am creating;for I will create Jerusalem to be a joyand its people to be a delight.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating, for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a rejoicing and her people a joy.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
19 I'll rejoice over Jerusalem, and take delight in my people; no longer will the sound of weeping be heard in it, nor the cry of distress.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people; and the sound of weeping will no more be heard in it, nor the cry of distress.
20 “No longer will there be (o)in it an infant who lives but a few days,Or an old man who does (AU)not (p)live out his days;For the youth will die at the age of one hundredAnd the (q)(AV)one who does not reach the age of one hundredWill be thought accursed.
20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
20 In her, a nursing infant will no longer liveonly a few days,(i)or an old man not live out his days.Indeed, the youth will die at a hundred years,and the one who misses a hundred years will be cursed.(U)
20 "And there will no longer be in it a young boy who lives only a few days, or an old person who does not live out his days; for one who dies at a hundred years will be thought a mere youth, and one who falls short of a hundred years will be considered accursed.
20 There shall no more be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who dies prematurely; for the child shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner who dies when only a hundred years old shall be [thought only a child, cut off because he is] accursed.
21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
21 People will build houses and live in them; They'll plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
21 They shall build houses and inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.
22 “They will not build and (AY)another inhabit,They will not plant and another eat;For (AZ)as the (r)lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people,And My chosen ones will (BA)wear out the work of their hands.
22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
22 They won't build for others to inhabit; they won't plant for others to eat for like the lifetime of a tree, so will the lifetime of my people be, and my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands.
22 They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat [the fruit]. For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, and My chosen and elect shall long make use of and enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
23 They won't toil in vain nor bear children doomed to misfortune, for they will be offspring blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them.
23 They shall not labor in vain or bring forth [children] for sudden terror or calamity; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.
24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
24 Before they call, I will answer, while they are still speaking, I'll hear.
24 And it shall be that before they call I will answer; and while they are yet speaking I will hear.
25 The (BE)wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the (BF)lion will eat straw like the ox; and (BG)dust will be the serpent’s food. They will (BH)do no evil or harm in all My (BI)holy mountain,” says the Lord.
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together,(j)and the lion will eat straw like the ox,(AA)but the serpent’s food will be dust!(AB)They will not do what is evil or destroyon My entire holy mountain,”(AC)says the Lord.
25 "The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; but as for the serpent its food will be dust! They won't harm or destroy on my entire holy mountain," says the LORD.
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all My holy Mount [Zion], says the Lord.
