Four Types Of Calamity
1 Then the Lord said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for these people, I would not feel pity for them! Get them away from me! Tell them to go away!
1 Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

2 If they ask you, 'Where should we go?' tell them the Lord says this: "Those who are destined to die of disease will go to death by disease. Those who are destined to die in war will go to death in war. Those who are destined to die of starvation will go to death by starvation. Those who are destined to go into exile will go into exile."
2 And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
2 And it shall be that when they say to you, ‘Where should we go?’ then you are to tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord:“Those destined (F)for death, to death; And those destined for the sword, to the sword; And those destined for famine, to famine; And those destined for captivity, to captivity.”’
2 If they ask you, ‘Where will we go?’ you must tell them: This is what the Lord says:Those destined for death,(E) to death;those destined for the sword, to the sword. Those destined for famine, to famine;those destined for captivity, to captivity.

3 "I will punish them in four different ways: I will have war kill them. I will have dogs drag off their dead bodies. I will have birds and wild beasts devour and destroy their corpses.
3 And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
3 I will (G)appoint over them four kinds of doom,” declares the Lord: “the sword to slay, the (H)dogs to drag off, and the (I)birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.
3 “I will ordain four kinds(a) of judgment for them”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“the sword to kill, the dogs to drag away,(F) and the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the land(G) to devour and destroy.
3 "I'll appoint four kinds of judgment for them," declares the LORD: "the sword to kill, the dogs to drag off, the birds of the sky to devour, and the animals of the land to destroy.
4 I will make all the people in all the kingdoms of the world horrified at what has happened to them because of what Hezekiah's son Manasseh, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem."
4 And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
4 I will (J)make them an object of horror among all the kingdoms of the earth because of (K)Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem.
4 I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of Manasseh(H) son of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem.

5 The Lord cried out, "Who in the world will have pity on you, Jerusalem? Who will grieve over you? Who will stop long enough to inquire about how you are doing?
5 For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?
5 “Indeed, who will have (L)pity on you, O Jerusalem,Or who will (M)mourn for you,Or who will turn aside to ask about your welfare?
5 Who will have pity on you, Jerusalem?(I)Who will show sympathy toward you?(J)Who will turn asideto ask about your welfare?
5 "Who will have pity on you, Jerusalem, and who will grieve for you? Who will go out of his way to ask about your welfare?
6 I, the Lord, say: 'You people have deserted me! You keep turning your back on me.' So I have unleashed my power against you and have begun to destroy you. I have grown tired of feeling sorry for you!"
6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.
6 “You who have (N)forsaken Me,” declares the Lord,“You keep (O)going backward. So I will (P)stretch out My hand against you and destroy you;I am (Q)tired of relenting!

7 The Lord continued, "In every town in the land I will purge them like straw blown away by the wind. I will destroy my people. I will kill off their children. I will do so because they did not change their behavior.
7 And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.
7 “I will (R)winnow them with a winnowing forkAt the gates of the land;I will (S)bereave them of children, I will destroy My people;(T)They did not (c)repent of their ways.

8 Their widows will become in my sight more numerous than the grains of sand on the seashores. At noontime I will bring a destroyer against the mothers of their young men. I will cause anguish and terror to fall suddenly upon them.
8 Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
8 “Their (U)widows will be more numerous before MeThan the sand of the seas;I will bring against them, against the mother of a young man,A (V)destroyer at noonday;I will suddenly bring down on herAnguish and dismay.

8 I'll make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At noontime I'll send a destroyer against the mother of a young man. I'll cause terror and anguish to come to her unexpectedly.
9 The mother who had seven children will grow faint. All the breath will go out of her. Her pride and joy will be taken from her in the prime of their life. It will seem as if the sun had set while it was still day. She will suffer shame and humiliation. I will cause any of them who are still left alive to be killed in war by the onslaughts of their enemies," says the Lord.
9 She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD.
9 “She who (W)bore seven sons pines away;(d)Her breathing is labored. Her (X)sun has set while it was yet day;She has been (Y)shamed and humiliated. So I will (Z)give over their survivors to the swordBefore their enemies,” declares the Lord.

Jeremiah's Lament And Yahweh's Response
10 I said, "Oh, mother, how I regret that you ever gave birth to me! I am always starting arguments and quarrels with the people of this land. I have not lent money to anyone and I have not borrowed from anyone. Yet all of these people are treating me with contempt."
10 Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.
10 (AA)Woe to me, my mother, that you have borne meAs a (AB)man of strife and a man of contention to all the land!I have not (AC)lent, nor have men lent money to me,Yet everyone curses me.
10 Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me,(N)a man who incites dispute and conflictin all the land.I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.(O)

11 The Lord said, "Jerusalem, I will surely send you away for your own good. I will surely bring the enemy upon you in a time of trouble and distress.
11 The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
11 The Lord said, “Surely I will (AD)set you free for purposes of good;Surely I will cause the (AE)enemy to make supplication to youIn a time of disaster and a time of distress.
11 The Lord said:I will certainly set you free and care for you.(b)I will certainly intercede for youin a time of trouble,in your time of distress, with the enemy.
11 The LORD said, "Have I not set you free for a good purpose? Have I not intervened for you with your enemies in times of trouble and times of distress?
13 I will give away your wealth and your treasures as plunder. I will give it away free of charge for the sins you have committed throughout your land.
13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.
13 “Your (AG)wealth and your treasuresI will give for booty (AH)without cost,Even for all your sinsAnd within all your borders.
13 I will give up your wealthand your treasures as plunder, without cost,(P) for all your sinsin all your borders.
13 "I'll give away your wealth and your treasures as plunder, for free, because of all your sins throughout your territory.
14 I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you know nothing about. For my anger is like a fire that will burn against you."
14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.

14 I'll make you serve your enemies in a land you don't know, for my anger has started a fire that will burn against you."
Jeremiah's Prayer For Vengeance
15 I said, "Lord, you know how I suffer. Take thought of me and care for me. Pay back for me those who have been persecuting me. Do not be so patient with them that you allow them to kill me. Be mindful of how I have put up with their insults for your sake.
15 O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.
15 (AK)You who know, O Lord,Remember me, take notice of me,And (AL)take vengeance for me on my persecutors.Do not, in view of Your patience, take me away;Know that (AM)for Your sake I endure reproach.
15 You know,(R) Lord;remember me and take note of me.Avenge me against my persecutors.(S)In Your patience,(d) don’t take me away.Know that I suffer disgrace for Your honor.(T)
15 You are aware LORD, remember me, pay attention to me, and vindicate me in front of those who pursue me. You are patient don't take me away. Know that I suffer insult because of you!
16 As your words came to me I drank them in, and they filled my heart with joy and happiness because I belong to you.
16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
16 Your words were found and I (AN)ate them,And Your (AO)words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been (AP)called by Your name,O Lord God of hosts.
16 Your words were found, and I ate them.(U)Your words became a delight to meand the joy of my heart, for I am called by Your name,(V)Yahweh God of Hosts.
16 Your words were found, and I consumed them. Your words were joy and my hearts delight, because I bear your name, LORD God of the Heavenly Armies.
17 I did not spend my time in the company of other people, laughing and having a good time. I stayed to myself because I felt obligated to you and because I was filled with anger at what they had done.
17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
17 I (AQ)did not sit in the circle of merrymakers,Nor did I exult.Because of Your hand upon me I sat (AR)alone,For You (AS)filled me with indignation.
17 I never sat with the band of revelers, and I did not celebrate with them.Because Your hand was on me, I sat alone,(W)for You filled me with indignation.
17 I didn't sit in the company of those who have fun, and I didn't rejoice. Because of your hand on me, I sat alone, for you filled me with indignation.
18 Why must I continually suffer such painful anguish? Why must I endure the sting of their insults like an incurable wound? Will you let me down when I need you like a brook one goes to for water, but that cannot be relied on?"
18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
18 Why has my pain been perpetualAnd my (AT)wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will You indeed be to me (AU)like a deceptive streamWith water that is unreliable?
18 Why has my pain become unending,my wound incurable,(X)refusing to be healed? You truly have become like a mirage to me—water that is not reliable.
18 Why is my pain unending and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You are like a deceptive brook, whose waters cannot be depended on.
Jeremiah Told To Repent
19 Because of this, the Lord said, "You must repent of such words and thoughts! If you do, I will restore you to the privilege of serving me. If you say what is worthwhile instead of what is worthless, I will again allow you to be my spokesman. They must become as you have been. You must not become like them.
19 Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
19 Therefore, thus says the Lord,“(AV)If you return, then I will restore you—(AW)Before Me you will stand; And (AX)if you extract the precious from the worthless,You will become (f)My spokesman. They for their part may turn to you,But as for you, you must not turn to them.
19 Therefore, this is what the Lord says:If you return, I will restore you;you will stand in My presence. And if you speak noble words, rather than worthless ones, you will be My spokesman.(Y)It is they who must return to you;you must not return to them.
19 Therefore, this is what the LORD says: "If you repent, I'll take you back and you will stand before me. If you speak what is worthwhile, instead of what is worthless, then you will be my spokesman. People will turn to you, but you aren't to turn to them.
20 I will make you as strong as a wall to these people, a fortified wall of bronze. They will attack you, but they will not be able to overcome you. For I will be with you to rescue you and deliver you," says the Lord.
20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
20 “Then I will (AY)make you to this peopleA fortified wall of bronze; And though they fight against you,They will not prevail over you;For (AZ)I am with you to save youAnd deliver you,” declares the Lord.
20 Then I will make you a fortified wall of bronzeto this people. They will fight against youbut will not overcome you,for I am with youto save you and deliver you.(Z)This is the Lord’s declaration.
20 I'll make you a fortified wall of bronze to this people. They'll fight against you, but they won't prevail against you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you,"
21 "I will deliver you from the power of the wicked. I will free you from the clutches of violent people."
21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
21 “So I will (BA)deliver you from the hand of the wicked,And I will (BB)redeem you from the (g)grasp of the violent.”
21 I will deliver you from the power of evil peopleand redeem you from the control of the ruthless.
21 So I'll deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless."
