Seventy Years Of Servitude
1 In the fourth year that Jehoiakim son of Josiah was king of Judah, the Lord spoke to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah. (That was the same as the first year that Nebuchadnezzar was king of Babylon.)
1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;
1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the (A)fourth year of (B)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (that was the (C)first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon),
1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah, king of Judah (which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon).
1 This message from the LORD came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Josiah's son Jehoiakim, king of Judah. (This was also the first year of the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.)
2 So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the people who were living in Jerusalem.
2 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
2 which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the (D)people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
2 The prophet Jeremiah spoke concerning all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem as follows:
2 This is what Jeremiah the prophet told all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem:
3 "For the last twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year that Josiah son of Amon was ruling in Judah until now, the Lord has been speaking to me. I told you over and over again what he said. But you would not listen.
3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.
3 “From the (E)thirteenth year of (F)Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, (a)these (G)twenty-three years the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken to you (b)(H)again and again, but you have not listened.
3 “From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon,(B) king of Judah, until this very day—23 years—the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken to you time and time again,(a)(C) but you have not obeyed.
3 "From the thirteenth year of the reign of Ammon's son Josiah, the king of Judah, until the present time, for 23 years this message from the LORD has come to me, and I've spoken to you again and again, but you haven't listened.
4 Over and over again the Lord has sent his servants the prophets to you. But you have not listened or paid attention.
4 And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.
4 And the Lord has sent to you all His (I)servants the prophets (c)again and again, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear,
4 The Lord sent all His servants the prophets to you time and time again,(b) but you have not obeyed or even paid attention.(c)(D)
4 Again and again, the LORD sent all his servants, the prophets, to you, but you wouldn't listen or even turn your ears in my direction to hear.
5 He said through them, 'Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and stop doing the evil things you are doing. If you do, I will allow you to continue to live here in the land that I gave to you and your ancestors as a lasting possession.
5 They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
5 saying, ‘(J)Turn now everyone from his evil way and from the evil of your deeds, and dwell on the land which the Lord has given to you and your forefathers (K)forever and ever;
5 He announced, ‘Turn, each of you, from your(d) evil way of life and from your evil deeds.(E) Live in the land the Lord gave to you and your ancestors long ago and forever.
5 They said, "Turn, each one of you, from your evil habits and evil deeds, and live in the land that the LORD gave to you and your ancestors forever and ever.
6 Do not pay allegiance to other gods and worship and serve them. Do not make me angry by the things that you do. Then I will not cause you any harm.'
6 And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.
6 and (L)do not go after other gods to (d)serve them and to (e)worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands, and I will do you no harm.’
6 Do not follow other gods to serve them and to worship them,(F) and do not provoke Me to anger by the work of your hands.(G) Then I will do you no harm.
6 Don't follow other gods to serve and worship them. Don't provoke me with the idols you make with your hands, and I won't bring disaster on you.'
7 So, now the Lord says, 'You have not listened to me. But you have made me angry by the things that you have done. Thus you have brought harm on yourselves.'
7 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.
7 Yet you have not listened to Me,” declares the Lord, “in order that you might (M)provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.
7 “‘But you would not obey Me’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘in order that you might provoke Me to anger by the work of your hands and bring disaster on yourselves.’
7 But you didn't listen to me," declares the LORD, "so as to provoke me with the idols you make with your hands to your own harm.
8 "Therefore, the Lord who rules over all says, 'You have not listened to what I said.
8 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,
8 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Because you have not obeyed My words,
8 “Therefore, this is what the Lord of Hosts says: ‘Because you have not obeyed My words,
8 "Therefore, this is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Because you haven't listened to my message,
9 So I, the Lord, affirm that I will send for all the peoples of the north and my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and all the nations that surround it. I will utterly destroy this land, its inhabitants, and all the nations that surround it and make them everlasting ruins. I will make them objects of horror and hissing scorn.
9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.
9 behold, I will (N)send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, (O)My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these nations round about; and I will (f)utterly destroy them and (P)make them a horror and a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.
9 I am going to send for all the families of the north’(H)—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘and send for My servant(I) Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land, against its residents, and against all these surrounding nations, and I will completely destroy them and make them a desolation,(J) a derision, and ruins forever.
9 I'm now sending for all the tribes from the north, declares the LORD, and for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I'll bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I'll utterly destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting desolation.
10 I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, to the glad celebration of brides and grooms in these lands. I will put an end to the sound of people grinding meal. I will put an end to lamps shining in their houses.
10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.
10 Moreover, I will (g)(Q)take from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the (R)sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.
10 I will eliminate the sound of joy and gladness from them—the voice of the groom and the bride,(K) the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.
10 I'll destroy the sounds of gladness and rejoicing from them, the sounds of the bridegroom and the bride, the sound of the hand mill and also the light of the lamp.
11 This whole area will become a desolate wasteland. These nations will be subject to the king of Babylon for seventy years.'
11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
11 (S)This whole land will be a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon (T)seventy years.
11 This whole land will become a desolate ruin, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for 70 years.(L)
11 This entire land will be a desolation and a waste, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.
The Cup Of Wrath
12 "'But when the seventy years are over, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation for their sins. I will make the land of Babylon an everlasting ruin. I, the Lord, affirm it!
12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
12 ‘Then it will be (U)when seventy years are completed I will (V)punish the king of Babylon and that nation,’ declares the Lord, ‘for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; and (W)I will make it an everlasting desolation.
12 When the 70 years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘the land of the Chaldeans, for their guilt, and I will make it a ruin forever.(M)
12 "Then when the seventy years have passed, I'll judge the king of Babylon and that nation, declares the LORD, I'll judge the land of the Chaldeans for their iniquity and I'll make it a desolation forever.
13 I will bring on that land everything that I said I would. I will bring on it everything that is written in this book. I will bring on it everything that Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.
13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.
13 I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in (X)this book which Jeremiah has prophesied against (Y)all the nations.
13 I will bring on that land all My words I have spoken against it, all that is written in this book that Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.
13 I'll bring on that land all the things I spoke against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied about the nations.
14 For many nations and great kings will make slaves of the king of Babylon and his nation too. I will repay them for all they have done!'"
14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
14 ((h)For (Z)many nations and great kings will make slaves of them, even them; and I will (AA)recompense them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.)’”
14 For many nations and great kings will enslave them, and I will repay them according to their deeds(N) and the work of their hands.’”
14 Indeed many nations and great kings will make slaves even of them, and I'll repay them according to their deeds, according to what they have done.'"
The Cup Of God's Wrath
15 So the Lord, the God of Israel, spoke to me in a vision. "Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my wrath. Take it and make the nations to whom I send you drink it.
15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
15 For thus the Lord, the God of Israel, says to me, “Take this (AB)cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it.
15 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take this cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and make all the nations I am sending you to, drink from it.(O)
15 For this is what the LORD God of Israel says to me, "Take this cup of the wine of burning anger from my hand and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.
16 When they have drunk it, they will stagger to and fro and act insane. For I will send wars sweeping through them."
16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
16 They will drink, stagger,(e) and go out of their minds because of the sword I am sending among them.”
16 They'll drink, stagger, and act like madmen because of the sword I'm sending among them."
17 So I took the cup from the Lord's hand. I made all the nations to whom he sent me drink the wine of his wrath.
17 Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:
17 Then I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and (AD)made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it:
17 So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations drink from it, everyone the Lord sent me to.
17 So I took the cup from the LORD's hand, and I made all the nations to whom the LORD sent me drink it:
18 I made Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and its officials drink it. I did it so Judah would become a ruin. I did it so Judah, its kings, and its officials would become an object of horror and of hissing scorn, an example used in curses. Such is already becoming the case!
18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;
18 (AE)Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and its kings and its princes, to make them a ruin, a horror, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day;
18 These included:Jerusalem and the other cities of Judah, its kings and its officials, to make them a desolate ruin, an object of scorn and cursing—as it is today;
18 Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, its kings and officials to make them into a ruin, an object of horror and scorn, and a curse, as it is this day;
19 I made all of these other people drink it: Pharaoh, king of Egypt; his attendants, his officials, his people,
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officers, his leaders, all his people,
19 Pharaoh, king of Egypt, his officials, his princes, and all his people;
20 the foreigners living in Egypt; all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the land of the Philistines, the people of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, the people who had been left alive from Ashdod;
20 And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,
20 and all the (i)(AG)foreign people, all the kings of the (AH)land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the (AI)Philistines (even Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and the remnant of (AJ)Ashdod);
20 and all the mixed peoples;all the kings of the land of Uz;all the kings of the land of the Philistines—Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;
20 all the various people; all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and what remains of Ashdod;
22 all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon; all the kings of the coastlands along the sea;
22 And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,
22 and all the kings of (AN)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon and the kings of (AO)the coastlands which are beyond the sea;
22 all the kings of Tyre,all the kings of Sidon,and the kings of the coastlands across the sea;
22 all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and all the kings of the coast lands that are beyond the sea;
24 all the kings of Arabia who live in the desert;
24 And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,
24 and all the kings of (AS)Arabia and all the kings of the (j)(AT)foreign people who dwell in the desert;
24 all the kings of Arabia,and all the kings of the mixed peoples who have settled in the desert;
24 all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the various people who live in the desert;
25 all the kings of Zimri; all the kings of Elam; all the kings of Media;
25 And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,
25 all the kings of Zimri,all the kings of Elam,and all the kings of Media;
25 all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;
26 all the kings of the north, whether near or far from one another; and all the other kingdoms which are on the face of the earth. After all of them have drunk the wine of the Lord's wrath, the king of Babylon must drink it.
26 And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
26 and all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and (AW)all the kingdoms of the earth which are upon the face of the ground, and the king of (k)(AX)Sheshach shall drink after them.
26 all the kings of the north, both near and far from one another;that is, all the kingdoms of the world which are on the face of the earth.Finally, the king of Sheshach(g) will drink after them.
26 all the kings of the north near and far, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. The king of Sheshak will drink after all the others.
27 Then the Lord said to me, "Tell them that the Lord God of Israel who rules over all says, 'Drink this cup until you get drunk and vomit. Drink until you fall down and can't get up. For I will send wars sweeping through you.'
27 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.
27 “You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “(AY)Drink, be drunk, vomit, fall and rise no more because of the (AZ)sword which I will send among you.”’
27 “Then you are to say to them: This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Drink,(Q) get drunk, and vomit. Fall down and never get up again, as a result of the sword I am sending among you.
27 "You are to say to them, "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: "Drink, get drunk, and vomit! Fall down and don't get up because of the sword I'm sending among you."'
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink it, tell them that the Lord who rules over all says 'You most certainly must drink it!
28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.
28 And it will be, if they (BA)refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you will say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “(BB)You shall surely drink!
28 If(h) they refuse to take the cup from you and drink, you are to say to them: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: You must drink!
28 And if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink it, say to them, "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "You will surely drink it!
29 For take note, I am already beginning to bring disaster on the city that I call my own. So how can you possibly avoid being punished? You will not go unpunished! For I am proclaiming war against all who live on the earth. I, the Lord who rules over all, affirm it!'
29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.
29 For behold, I am (BC)beginning to work calamity in this city which is (BD)called by My name, and shall you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment; for (BE)I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares the Lord of hosts.’
29 For I am already bringing disaster on the city that bears My name,(R) so how could you possibly go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.(S)
29 Look, I'm beginning to bring disaster on the city that is called by my name, and do you actually think you will avoid punishment? You won't avoid punishment because I'm summoning the sword against all those who live in the land," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.'"
Judgment On The Whole World
30 "Then, Jeremiah, make the following prophecy against them: 'Like a lion about to attack, the Lord will roar from the heights of heaven; from his holy dwelling on high he will roar loudly. He will roar mightily against his land. He will shout in triumph like those stomping juice from the grapes against all those who live on the earth.
30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.
30 “Therefore you shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them,‘The (BF)Lord will (BG)roar from on highAnd utter His voice from His holy habitation;He will roar mightily against His (l)fold.He will shout like those who tread the grapes,Against all the inhabitants of the earth.
30 “As for you, you are to prophesy all these things to them, and say to them:The Lord roars from heaven;He raises His voice from His holy dwelling.(T)He roars loudly over His grazing land;He calls out with a shout, like those who tread grapes,against all the inhabitants of the earth.
30 "You are to prophesy all these things against them, and you are to say to them, "The LORD roars from his high place, from his holy dwelling he lifts his voice. He roars loudly against his flock, and against all who live on the earth; he shouts like those treading grapes.
31 The sounds of battle will resound to the ends of the earth. For the Lord will bring charges against the nations. He will pass judgment on all humankind and will hand the wicked over to be killed in war.' The Lord so affirms it!
31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
31 ‘A clamor has come to the end of the earth,Because the Lord has (BH)a controversy with the nations.He is entering into (BI)judgment with all flesh;As for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares the Lord.”
31 The tumult reaches to the ends of the earthbecause the Lord brings a case against(U) the nations.He enters into judgment with all flesh.As for the wicked, He hands them over to the sword—this is the Lord’s declaration.
31 A tumult reaches to the ends of the earth because the LORD is bringing an indictment against the nations. He judges all flesh. He has given the wicked over to the sword,' declares the LORD.
32 The Lord who rules over all says, 'Disaster will soon come on one nation after another. A mighty storm of military destruction is rising up from the distant parts of the earth.'
32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
32 Thus says the Lord of hosts,“Behold, evil is going forthFrom (BJ)nation to nation,And a great (BK)storm is being stirred upFrom the remotest parts of the earth.
32 “This is what the Lord of Hosts says:Pay attention! Disaster spreadsfrom nation to nation.A great storm is stirred upfrom the ends of the earth.”(V)
32 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Look, disaster is going from nation to nation, a great storm is being stirred up from the most distant parts of the earth.
33 Those who have been killed by the Lord at that time will be scattered from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned over, gathered up, or buried. Their dead bodies will lie scattered over the ground like manure.
33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.
33 “Those (BL)slain by the Lord on that day will be from one end of the earth to the (m)other. They will (BM)not be lamented, gathered or buried; they will be like (BN)dung on the face of the ground.
33 Those slain by the Lord(W) on that day will be spread from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned,(X) gathered, or buried. They will be like manure on the surface of the ground.
33 "Those slain by the LORD on that day will extend from one end of the earth to the other. They won't be mourned for or gathered up or buried. They'll be like dung on the surface of the ground.
34 Wail and cry out in anguish, you rulers! Roll in the dust, you who shepherd flocks of people! The time for you to be slaughtered has come. You will lie scattered and fallen like broken pieces of fine pottery.
34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
34 “Wail, you shepherds, and cry;And (BO)wallow in ashes, you masters of the flock;For the days of your (BP)slaughter and your dispersions (n)have come,And you will fall like a choice vessel.
34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry out.Roll in the dust,(i)(Y) you leaders of the flock.Because the days of your slaughter have come,you will fall and become shattered like a precious vase.
34 "Scream, you shepherds! Cry out! Roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock! Indeed, the time for your slaughter and your dispersion has arrived, and you will break like a choice vessel.
35 The leaders will not be able to run away and hide. The shepherds of the flocks will not be able to escape.
35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.
35 Flight will be impossible for the shepherds,and escape, for the leaders of the flock.
35 Flight will be impossible for the shepherds, as will be escape for the leaders of the flock.
36 Listen to the cries of anguish of the leaders. Listen to the wails of the shepherds of the flocks. They are wailing because the Lord is about to destroy their lands.
36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.
36 “Hear the sound of the cry of the shepherds,And the wailing of the masters of the flock!For the Lord is destroying their pasture,
36 Hear the sound of the shepherds’ cry,the wail of the leaders of the flock,for the Lord is destroying their pasture.
36 A sound it's the cry of the shepherds and the scream of the leaders of the flock because the LORD is destroying their pastures.
38 The Lord is like a lion who has left his lair. So their lands will certainly be laid waste by the warfare of the oppressive nation and by the fierce anger of the Lord."
38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
38 “He has left His hiding place (BT)like the lion;For their land has become a horrorBecause of the fierceness of the (p)oppressing swordAnd because of His fierce anger.”
38 He has left His den like a lion,for their land has become a desolationbecause of the sword(j) of the oppressor,(AA)because of His burning anger.
38 Like a lion, he has left his den. Indeed, their land has become a waste because of the anger of the oppressor and because of the LORD's fierce anger."
