Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
But the prophet who speaks a word
presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’
what do you think?” They answered, “
He deserves death!”
Then the whole body of them got up and
brought Him before Pilate.
They answered and said to him, “If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you.”
The Jews answered him, “
We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”
They listened to him up to this statement, and then they raised their voices and said, “
Away with such a fellow from the earth, for he should not be allowed to live!”
But, that I may not weary you any further, I beg you
to grant us, by your kindness, a brief hearing.
And the chief priests and the leading men of the Jews
brought charges against Paul, and they were urging him,
This man is worthy to die
officials said to the king, “Now let this man be put to death, inasmuch as he is discouraging the men of war who are left in this city and all the people, by speaking such words to them; for this man is not seeking the well-being of this people but rather their harm.”
Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”
