The Remnant Asks Jeremiah To Pray To Yahweh For Direction

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah, the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, came near,

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

1 Then all the (a)commanders of the forces, (A)Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people (B)both small and great approached

1 Then all the commanders of the armies, along with Johanan son of Kareah,(A) Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest,(B) approached

1 Then all the military leaders, Kareah's son Jonathan, Hoshaiah's son Jezaniah, and all the people from the least to the greatest approached Jeremiah.

2 And said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let our request come before you, and make prayer for us to the Lord your God, even for this small band of us; for we are only a small band out of what was a great number, as your eyes may see:

2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

2 and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our (C)petition (b)come before you, and (D)pray for us to the Lord your God, that is for all this remnant; because we are left but a (E)few out of many, as your own eyes now see us,

2 Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you;(C) pray to the Lord your God on our behalf,(D) on behalf of this entire remnant (for few of us remain out of the many,(E) as you can see with your own eyes),

2 They told Jeremiah the prophet, "Please listen to what we have to ask of you. Pray to the LORD your God for us and for all these survivors. Indeed, only a few of us remain out of many, as you can see.

3 That the Lord your God may make clear to us the way in which we are to go and what we are to do.

3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

3 that the Lord your God may tell us the (F)way in which we should walk and the thing that we should do.”

3 that the Lord your God may tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do.”

3 Pray that the LORD your God may inform us as to how we should live and what we should do."

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have given ear to you; see, I will make prayer to the Lord your God, as you have said; and it will be that, whatever the Lord may say in answer to you, I will give you word of it, keeping nothing back.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I am going to (G)pray to the Lord your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole (c)message which the (H)Lord will answer you. I will (I)not keep back a word from you.”

4 So Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard. I will now pray to the Lord your God according to your words, and every word that the Lord answers you I will tell you; I won’t withhold a word from you.”(F)

4 Jeremiah the prophet told them, "I've heard, and I'm going to pray to the LORD your God just as you have requested. Whatever the LORD answers, I'll tell you. I won't withhold anything from you."

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, May the Lord be a true witness against us in good faith, if we do not do everything which the Lord your God sends you to say to us.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the (J)Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with the whole (d)message with which the Lord your God will send you to us.

5 And they said to Jeremiah, “As for every word the Lord your God sends you to tell us, if we don’t act accordingly, may the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us.(G)

5 Then they told Jeremiah, "May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we don't do everything that the LORD your God tells us through you.

6 If it is good or if it is evil, we will be guided by the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you; so that it may be well for us when we give ear to the voice of the Lord our God.

6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

6 Whether it is (e)pleasant or (f)unpleasant, we will (K)listen to the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go (L)well with us when we listen to the voice of the Lord our God.”

6 Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you so that it may go well with us.(H) We will certainly obey the voice of the Lord our God!”

6 Whether it seems good or bad, we will obey the LORD our God to whom we send you, so it may go well for us. Indeed, we will obey the LORD our God."

The Remnant Rejects The Word Of Yahweh

7 And it came about that after ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

7 Now at the (M)end of ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

7 Now at the end of 10 days, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah,

7 At the end of ten days a message from the LORD came to Jeremiah.

8 And he sent for Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were still with him, and all the people, from the least to the greatest,

8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

8 Then he called for Johanan the son of Kareah and all the (g)commanders of the forces that were with him, and for all the people both small and great,

8 and he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the armies who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

8 So he called Kareah's son Jonathan, all the military leaders who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

9 And said to them, These are the words of the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to put your request before him:

9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

9 and said to them, “Thus (N)says the Lord the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your petition before Him:

9 He said to them, “This is what the Lord says, the God of Israel to whom you sent me to bring your petition before Him:

9 He told them, "This is what the LORD God of Israel says, to whom you sent me to take your request:

10 If you still go on living in the land, then I will go on building you up and not pulling you down, planting you and not uprooting you: for my purpose of doing evil to you has been changed.

10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

10 ‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will (O)build you up and not tear you down, and I will plant you and not uproot you; for I (h)will (P)relent concerning the calamity that I have inflicted on you.

10 ‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will rebuild and not demolish you,(I) and I will plant and not uproot you, because I relent concerning the disaster(J) that I have brought on you.

10 "If you will just remain in this land, I'll build you up and not pull you down. I'll plant you and not uproot you, for I'm sorry about the disaster I've brought on you.

11 Have no fear of the king of Babylon, of whom you are now in fear; have no fear of him, says the Lord: for I am with you to keep you safe and to give you salvation from his hands.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

11 (Q)Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you are now fearing; do not be afraid of him,’ declares the Lord, ‘for (R)I am with you to save you and deliver you from his hand.

11 Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon(K) whom you now fear; don’t be afraid of him’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘because I am with you to save you(L) and deliver you from him.

11 Don't be afraid of the king of Babylon as you have been. Don't fear him,' declares the LORD, "because I am with you to save you and deliver you from his control.

12 And I will have mercy on you, so that he may have mercy on you and let you go back to your land.

12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

12 I will also show you compassion, so that (S)he will have compassion on you and restore you to your own soil.

12 I will grant you compassion,(M) and he(a) will have compassion on you and allow you to return to your own soil.

12 I'll show you compassion, so he will have compassion on you and return you to your land.

13 But if you say, We have no desire to go on living in this land; and do not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God,

13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

13 But if you are going to say, “We will (T)not stay in this land,” so as not to listen to the voice of the Lord your God,

13 But if you say, ‘We will not stay in this land,’(N) so as not to obey the voice of the Lord your God,

13 But if you disobey the LORD your God by saying, "We won't stay in this land,"

14 Saying, No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will not see war, or be hearing the sound of the horn, or be in need of food; there we will make our living-place;

14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

14 saying, “No, but we will (U)go to the land of Egypt, where we will not see war or (V)hear the sound of a trumpet or hunger for bread, and we will stay there”;

14 and if you say, ‘No, instead we’ll go to the land of Egypt(O) where we will not see war or hear the sound of the ram’s horn(P) or hunger for food, and we’ll live there,’

14 and you also say, "No, but we will go to the land of Egypt where we won't see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or hunger for bread, and there we will stay,"

15 Then give ear now to the word of the Lord, O you last of Judah: the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said, If your minds are fixed on going into Egypt and stopping there;

15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

15 then (i)in that case listen to the word of the Lord, O remnant of Judah. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “If you really set your (j)mind to enter (W)Egypt and go in to reside there,

15 then hear the word of the Lord, remnant of Judah! This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: If you are firmly resolved to go to Egypt(Q) and live there for a while,

15 then hear this message from the LORD, remnant of Judah: "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: "If you are really determined to go into Egypt, and you go there to settle,

16 Then it will come about that the sword, which is the cause of your fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and need of food, which you are fearing, will go after you there in Egypt; and there death will come to you.

16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

16 then the (X)sword, which you are afraid of, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are anxious, will follow closely after you there in Egypt, and you will die there.

16 then the sword(R) you fear will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine you are worried about will follow on your heels(b) there to Egypt, and you will die there.

16 the sword that you fear will overtake you there in the land of Egypt. The famine that you dread will pursue you into Egypt, and there you will die.

17 Such will be the fate of all the men whose minds are fixed on going into Egypt and stopping there; they will come to their end by the sword, by being short of food, and by disease: not one of them will keep his life or get away from the evil which I will send on them.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

17 So all the men who set their (k)mind to go to Egypt to reside there will die by the (Y)sword, by famine and by pestilence; and they will (Z)have no survivors or refugees from the calamity that I am going to bring on them.”’”

17 All who resolve to go to Egypt to live there for a while will die by the sword, famine, and plague. They will have no one escape or survive from the disaster I will bring on them.’

17 All the people who are determined to go into Egypt to settle there will die by the sword, by famine, and by the plague. No one will survive the disaster that I'll bring on them."

18 For this is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said: As my wrath and passion have been let loose on the people of Jerusalem, so will my passion be let loose on you when you go into Egypt: and you will become an oath and a cause of wonder and a curse and a name of shame; and you will never see this place again.

18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

18 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “As My (AA)anger and wrath have been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so My wrath will be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. And you will become a (AB)curse, an object of horror, an imprecation and a reproach; and (AC)you will see this place no more.”

18 “For this is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and fury were poured out on Jerusalem’s residents,(S) so will My fury pour out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of cursing, scorn,(T) execration, and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’

18 For this is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: "Just as my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. You will be a curse and an object of horror, ridicule, and scorn, and you will never again see this place.'

19 The Lord has said about you, O last of Judah, Go not into Egypt: be certain that I have given witness to you this day.

19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

19 The Lord has spoken to you, O remnant of Judah, “Do not (AD)go into Egypt!” You should clearly (AE)understand that today I have (AF)testified against you.

19 The Lord has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah: ‘Don’t go to Egypt.’ Know for certain that I have warned you today!(U)

19 The LORD has told you, remnant of Judah, "Don't go to Egypt!' So be fully aware that I've warned you, today,

20 For you have been acting with deceit in your hearts; for you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, Make prayer for us to the Lord our God, and give us word of everything he may say, and we will do it.

20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

20 For you have only (l)(AG)deceived yourselves; for it is you who sent me to the Lord your God, saying, “Pray for us to the Lord our God; and whatever the Lord our God says, tell us so, and we will do it.”

20 You have led your own selves astray because you are the ones who sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray to the Lord our God on our behalf, and as for all that the Lord our God says, tell it to us, and we’ll act accordingly.’

20 that you have deceived yourselves. Indeed, you yourselves sent me to the LORD your God, saying, "Pray to the LORD your God for us, and whatever the LORD our God tells us we will do.'

21 And this day I have made it clear to you, and you have not given ear to the voice of the Lord your God in anything for which he has sent me to you.

21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

21 So I have (AH)told you today, but you have (AI)not (m)obeyed the Lord your God, even in whatever He has sent me to tell you.

21 For I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God in everything He has sent me to tell you.

21 I've told you today, but you haven't obeyed the LORD your God in all that he sent me to tell you.

22 And now be certain that you will come to your end by the sword and by being short of food and by disease, in the place to which you are pleased to go for a living-place.

22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.

22 Therefore you should now clearly understand that you will (AJ)die by the sword, by famine and by pestilence, in the (AK)place where you wish to go to reside.

22 Now therefore, know for certain that by the sword, famine, and plague you will die in the place where you desired to go to live for a while.”

22 Now, be fully aware that you will die by the sword, by famine, and by plague in the place where you want to settle."
