The Wedding At Cana: Water Turned Into Wine

1 Two days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there,

1 On (A)the third day there was a wedding in (B)Cana of Galilee, and the (C)mother of Jesus was there;

1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

1 On the third day a wedding took place in Cana(A) of Galilee.(B) Jesus’ mother(C) was there, and

1 On the third day of that week there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,

2 and Jesus also was invited and His disciples.

2 and both Jesus and His (D)disciples were invited to the wedding.

2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

2 Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding as well.

2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.

3 Now the wine ran short; whereupon the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."

3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, “They have no wine.”

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

3 When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother told Him, “They don’t have any wine.”

3 When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother told him, "They don't have any more wine."

4 "Leave the matter in my hands," He replied; "the time for me to act has not yet come."

4 And Jesus *said to her, (E)Woman, (a)(F)what does that have to do with us? (G)My hour has not yet come.”

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

4 “What has this concern of yours to do with Me,(a)(D) woman?”(E) Jesus asked. “My hour(b) has not yet come.”

4 "How does that concern us, dear lady?" Jesus asked her. "My time hasn't come yet."

5 His mother said to the attendants, "Whatever he tells you to do, do it."

5 His (H)mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

5 “Do whatever He tells you,” His mother told the servants.

5 His mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

6 Now there were six stone jars standing there (in accordance with the Jewish regulations for purification)

6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there (I)for the Jewish custom of purification, containing (b)twenty or thirty gallons each.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

6 Now six stone water jars had been set there for Jewish purification.(F) Each contained 20 or 30 gallons.(c)

6 Now standing there were six stone water jars used for the Jewish rites of purification, each one holding from two to three measures.

7 Jesus said to the attendants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them to the brim.

7 Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

7 “Fill the jars with water,” Jesus told them. So they filled them to the brim.

7 Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them up to the brim.

8 Then He said, "Now, take some out, and carry it to the President of the feast."

8 And He *said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the (c)headwaiter.” So they took it to him.

8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

8 Then He said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the chief servant.”(d) And they did.

8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the man in charge of the banquet." So they did.

9 So they carried some to him. And no sooner had the President tasted the water now turned into wine, than--not knowing where it came from, though the attendants who had drawn the water knew--he called to the bridegroom

9 When the headwaiter tasted the water (J)which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom,

9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

9 When the chief servant tasted the water (after it had become wine), he did not know where it came from—though the servants who had drawn the water knew. He called the groom

9 When the man in charge of the banquet tasted the water that had become wine (without knowing where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called for the bridegroom

10 and said to him, "It is usual to put on the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then that which is inferior. But you have kept the good wine till now."

10 and *said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people (K)have (d)drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

10 and told him, “Everyone sets out the fine wine first, then, after people have drunk freely, the inferior. But you have kept the fine wine until now.”

10 and told him, "Everyone serves the best wine first, and the cheap kind when people are drunk. But you have kept the best wine until now!"

11 This, the first of His miracles, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and thus displayed His glorious power; and His disciples believed in Him.

11 This beginning of His (e)(L)signs Jesus did in Cana of (M)Galilee, and manifested His (N)glory, and His disciples believed in Him.

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

11 Jesus performed this first sign(e) in Cana(G) of Galilee.(H) He displayed(I) His glory,(J) and His disciples believed in Him.

11 Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

Jesus' First Journey To Jerusalem

12 Afterwards He went down to Capernaum--He, and His mother, and His brothers, and His disciples; and they made a short stay there.

12 After this He went down to (O)Capernaum, He and His (P)mother and His (Q)brothers and His (R)disciples; and they stayed there a few days.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

12 After this, He went down to Capernaum,(K) together with His mother, His brothers,(L) and His disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.

12 After this, Jesus went down to Capernaum he, his mother, his brothers, and his disciples and they remained there for a few days.

Jesus Throws Merchants And Moneychangers Out Of The Temple Courtyard

13 But the Jewish Passover was approaching, and for this Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

13 (S)The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus (T)went up to Jerusalem.

13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,

13 The Jewish Passover(M) was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(N)

13 The Jewish Passover was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

The Cleansing Of The Temple

14 And He found in the Temple the dealers in cattle and sheep and in pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.

14 (U)And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.

14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

14 In the temple complex(O) He found people selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and He also found the money changers sitting there.

14 In the Temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, as well as moneychangers sitting at their tables.

15 So He plaited a whip of rushes, and drove all--both sheep and bullocks--out of the Temple. The small coin of the brokers He upset on the ground and overturned their tables.

15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;

15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

15 After making a whip out of cords,(P) He drove everyone out of the temple complex with their sheep(Q) and oxen. He also poured out the money changers’ coins and overturned the tables.

15 After making a whip out of cords, he drove all of them out of the Temple, including the sheep and the cattle. He scattered the coins of the moneychangers and knocked over their tables.

16 And to the pigeon-dealers He said, "Take these things away. Do not turn my Father's house into a market."

16 and to those who were selling (V)the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making (W)My Father’s house a (f)place of business.”

16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

16 He told those who were selling doves, “Get these things out of here! Stop turning My Father’s(R) house(S) into a marketplace!”(f)(T)

16 Then he told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!"

17 This recalled to His disciples the words of Scripture, "My zeal for Thy House will consume me."

17 His (X)disciples remembered that it was written, “(Y)Zeal for Your house will consume me.”

17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

17 And His disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal(U) for Your house will consume(V) Me.(W)(g)

17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."

18 So the Jews asked Him, "What proof of your authority do you exhibit to us, seeing that you do these things?"

18 (Z)The Jews then said to Him, “(AA)What sign do You show us (g)as your authority for doing these things?”

18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

18 So the Jews replied to Him, “What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things?”

18 Then the Jewish leaders asked him, "What sign can you show us as authority for doing these things?"

19 "Demolish this Sanctuary," said Jesus, "and in three days I will rebuild it."

19 Jesus answered them, (AB)Destroy this (h)temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

19 Jesus answered, “Destroy this sanctuary,(X) and I will raise it up in three days.”(Y)

19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will rebuild it."

20 "It has taken forty-six years," replied the Jews, "to build this Sanctuary, and will you rebuild it in three days?"

20 (AC)The Jews then said, “It took (AD)forty-six years to build this (i)temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

20 Therefore the Jews said, “This sanctuary took 46 years to build, and will You raise it up in three days?”(Z)

20 The Jewish leaders said, "This sanctuary has been under construction for 46 years, and you're going to rebuild it in three days?"

21 But He was speaking of the Sanctuary of His body.

21 But He was speaking of (AE)the (j)temple of His body.

21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

21 But He was speaking about the sanctuary of His body.(AA)

21 But the sanctuary he was speaking about was his own body.

22 When however He had risen from among the dead, His disciples recollected that He had said this; and they believed the Scripture and the teaching which Jesus had given them.

22 So when He was raised from the dead, His (AF)disciples (AG)remembered that He said this; and they believed (AH)the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.

22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

22 So when He was raised from the dead,(AB) His disciples remembered that He had said this.(AC) And they believed the Scripture(AD) and the statement Jesus had made.

22 After he had been raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this. So they believed the Scripture and the statement that Jesus had made.

Jesus At The Passover

23 Now when He was in Jerusalem, at the Festival of the Passover, many became believers in Him through watching the miracles He performed.

23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at (AI)the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, (AJ)observing His signs which He was doing.

23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

23 While He was in Jerusalem(AE) at the Passover Festival,(AF) many trusted in His name(AG) when they saw the signs He was doing.

23 While Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover Festival, many people believed in him because they saw the signs that he was doing.

24 But for His part, Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew them all,

24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for (AK)He knew all men,

24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,

24 Jesus, however, would not entrust Himself to them, since He knew them all

24 Jesus, however, did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people

25 and did not need any one's testimony concerning a man, for He of Himself knew what was in the man.

25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, (AL)for He Himself knew what was in man.

25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

25 and because He did not need anyone to testify about man; for He Himself knew what was in man.(AH)

25 and didn't need anyone to tell him what people were like, because he himself knew what was in every person.
