the law indeed was delivered by Moses, but grace and truth was the dispensation of Jesus Christ.

don't imagine that I shall accuse you to my father: even Moses himself in whom you confide, will be your accuser.

then they reviled him, and said, thou art his disciple; but we are Moses disciples.

'twas he that was in the assembly with our fathers in the wilderness, and with the angel that spoke to him on mount Sina: and delivered the oracles to him by word of mouth for our use.

"To what purpose then was the law?" it was added as a check to transgressors, till the offspring should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels with the intervention of a mediator.

but as the architect is of much greater dignity than the house he has made; so the glory which Christ received was greater than that of Moses.

Yet

said, the Scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses's chair.

For as many as have sinned without the law, shall also perish without the law: and as many as have sinned under the law, shall be condemned by the law,

as it is written, " there is none righteous, no not one:

for even they who are circumcised, do not themselves observe the law in other respects; but they dedesire to have you circumcised, that they may have matter of glorying upon that account.

Then some that belong'd to Jerusalem, said, is not this he whom they seek to kill?

upon which occasion the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he did such things on the sabbath-day.

then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

from that day therefore, they consulted together to put Jesus to death.

Upon this the Pharisees went out of the synagogue, and form'd a conspiracy against his life.

but when the tenants saw the son, they said among themselves, this is the heir, come, let us kill him, and then seize on his inheritance.

and he ask'd them, is it allowed to do good, or to do mischief on the sabbath-days? to save life, or to kill? but they were very silent.
