1 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Speak unto the priests, sons of Aaron, and thou hast said unto them, For any person a priest is not defiled among his people,
1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:
1 The LORD told Moses, "Speak to the priests, Aaron's sons, and tell them that no priest is to defile himself on account of the dead among his people,
2 except for his relation who is near unto him -- for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother.
2 But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother,
2 except for his immediate family: his mother, father, son, daughter, or brother.
2 except his close relatives his mother, father, son, daughter, brother, or
3 and for his sister, the virgin, who is near unto him, who hath not been to a man; for her he is defiled.
3 And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.
3 He may make himself unclean for his young unmarried sister in his immediate family.
3 virgin sister (who is a near relative of him and did not have a husband he may defile himself for her).
4 A master priest doth not defile himself among his people -- to pollute himself;
4 But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.
4 Because he is a husband among his people, he is not to defile himself, thereby polluting himself.
5 they do not make baldness on their head, and the corner of their beard they do not shave, and in their flesh they do not make a cutting;
5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
5 "They are not to cut their hair in ritualistic patterns on their heads, deface the edges of their beards, or make incisions in their flesh.
6 they are holy to their God, and they pollute not the name of their God, for the fire-offerings of Jehovah, bread of their God, they are bringing near, and have been holy.
6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
6 They are to be holy to their God. They are not to defile the name of their God, because they're the ones who bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire the food of their God so they are to be holy.
7 A woman, a harlot, or polluted, they do not take, and a woman cast out from her husband they do not take, for he is holy to his God;
7 They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.
7 "They are not to marry a prostitute or a woman who has been dishonored or who was divorced from her husband, because the priest is holy to his God.
8 and thou hast sanctified him, for the bread of thy God he is bringing near; he is holy to thee; for holy am I, Jehovah, sanctifying you.
8 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy.
8 You are to consider him holy since he presents the food of your God. He will be holy to you because I, Yahweh who sets you apart, am holy.
8 Consecrate him, because he's the one who offers the food of your God. He is to be holy for you, because I, the LORD, the one who sanctifies you, am holy.
9 And a daughter of any priest when she polluteth herself by going a-whoring -- her father she is polluting; with fire she is burnt.
9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.
9 "Now if the daughter of any priest defiles herself by being a prostitute, she defiles her father. She is to be incinerated.
10 'And the high priest of his brethren, on whose head is poured the anointing oil, and hath consecrated his hand to put on the garments, his head doth not uncover, nor rend his garments,
10 ‘The priest who is the highest among his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil has been poured and (d)who has been consecrated to wear the garments, (K)shall not (e)uncover his head nor tear his clothes;
10 And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;
10 “The priest who is highest among his brothers, who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and has been ordained(d) to wear the garments, must not dishevel his hair(e) or tear his garments.(H)
10 "The high priest among his relatives whose head has been anointed with oil and who has been consecrated to put on the priestly clothing is not to let his hair hang loose or to tear his clothes.
11 nor beside any dead person doth he come; for his father and for his mother he doth not defile himself;
11 Neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;
11 He is not to come near any dead body whether the deceased is his father or his mother so as not to defile himself.
12 nor from the sanctuary doth he go out, nor doth he pollute the sanctuary of his God, for the separation of the anointing oil of his God is on him; I am Jehovah.
12 Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD.
12 He is not to go out of the sanctuary or defile the sanctuary of his God, because his God's consecrating oil of anointing rests on him. I am the LORD.
14 widow, or cast out, or polluted one -- a harlot -- these he doth not take, but a virgin of his own people he doth take for a wife,
14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.
14 He is not to marry a widow or one who has been divorced, has been defiled, or has been a prostitute. Instead, he is to take a virgin from among his people as his wife.
15 and he doth not pollute his seed among his people; for I am Jehovah, sanctifying him.'
15 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the LORD do sanctify him.
15 "He is not to defile his children among his people, because I am the LORD, who sets him apart."
17 'Speak unto Aaron, saying, No man of thy seed to their generations in whom there is blemish doth draw near to bring near the bread of his God,
17 Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.
17 "Tell Aaron that whoever of your descendants throughout their generations has a bodily defect is not to approach to offer the food of his God.
18 for no man in whom is blemish doth draw near -- a man blind, or lame or dwarfed, or enlarged,
18 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
18 No man who has any defect is to come near: no man who is blind, lame, facially disfigured, or deformed;
18 Indeed, any person who has a defect is not to approach the Tent of Meeting the blind, the lame, one who is mutilated in the face or who has a very long limb,
20 or hump-backed, or a dwarf, or with a mixture in his eye, or a scurvy person, or scabbed, or broken-testicled.
20 Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;
20 has scoliosis, is a dwarf, or has an eye defect, an itching disease, scabs, or a crushed testicle.
21 No man in whom is blemish (of the seed of Aaron the priest) doth come nigh to bring near the fire-offerings of Jehovah; blemish is in him; the bread of his God he doth not come nigh to bring near.
21 No man among the (k)descendants of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to come near to offer the Lord’s offerings by fire; since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer (T)the food of his God.
21 No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
21 No descendant of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to come near to present the fire offerings to the Lord. He has a defect and is not to come near to present the food of his God.
21 None of the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to approach to bring offerings of the LORD made by fire, since he has a defect. He is not to approach to offer the food of his God.
22 Bread of his God -- of the most holy things, and of the holy things -- he doth eat;
22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
22 He may eat the food of his God from what is especially holy as well as from what is holy.
22 However, he may eat the food of his God, including the most holy and the holy offerings,
23 only, unto the vail he doth not enter, and unto the altar he doth not draw nigh; for blemish is in him; and he doth not pollute My sanctuaries; for I am Jehovah, sanctifying them.'
23 only he shall not go in to the veil or come near the altar because he has a defect, so that he will not profane My sanctuaries. For I am the Lord who sanctifies them.’”
23 Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.
23 but he is not to enter through the curtain nor approach the altar, since he has a defect. That way, he won't defile my sanctuary, since I am the LORD, who sets you apart."
24 And Moses speaketh unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the sons of Israel.
24 So Moses spoke to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel.
24 And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.
24 Moses said this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.
24 Moses told all of this to Aaron, to his sons, and to all the Israelis.
