The Destruction Of The Temple Predicted
1 As Jesus was going out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, see, master, what stone-work, and buildings are here.
1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!
1 (A)As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples *said to Him, “Teacher, behold (a)what wonderful stones and (b)what wonderful buildings!”
1 As(A) He was going out of the temple complex,(B) one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher,(C) look! What massive stones! What impressive buildings!”(D)
1 As Jesus was leaving the Temple, one of his disciples told him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what beautiful buildings!"
2 but Jesus answer'd him, you see this magnificent structure, which shall not be left till it be all demolished, one stone after another.
2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
2 And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? (B)Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down.”
2 Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings?(E) Not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down!”
2 "Do you see these large buildings?" Jesus responded. "Not one stone here will be left on another that will not be torn down."
Signs Of The End Of The Age
3 and when he was sitting upon the mount of Olives over-against the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew said to him in private, tell us,
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
3 As He was sitting on (C)the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, (D)Peter and (c)James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately,
3 While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives(F) across from the temple complex,(G) Peter,(H) James,(I) John,(J) and Andrew(K) asked Him privately,
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives facing the Temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew were asking him privately,
4 when shall this happen? and what will be the sign that this is going to be accomplished?
4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
4 “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the (d)sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?”
4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to take place?”
4 "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign when these things will be put into effect?"
5 Jesus answer'd by saying, take care not to let any one impose upon you;
5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
5 And Jesus began to say to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
5 Then Jesus began by telling them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.
5 Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one deceives you.
7 but when ye shall hear the talk of wars, and the noise of wars, be not alarm'd; for that must happen; but the end is not yet.
7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.
7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars,(O) don’t be alarmed;(P) these things must take place,(Q) but the end is not yet.
7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, stop being alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet,
8 for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: there shall be earthquakes in divers places, famines and commotions.
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
8 For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.
8 For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(R) There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines.(a) These are the beginning(S) of birth pains.(T)
8 because nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes and famines in various places. These things are only the beginning of the birth pains."
Persecution Of Disciples Predicted
9 these are the beginning of sorrows. then look to your selves: for they will deliver you up to the tribunals, and scourge you in the synagogues: you will be brought before governours, and princes upon my account, to be my witnesses against them.
9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
9 “But (e)be on your guard; for they will (F)deliver you to the (f)courts, and you will be flogged (G)in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.
9 “But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to sanhedrins,(b)(U) and you will be flogged(V) in the synagogues.(W) You will stand before governors and kings(X) because of Me,(Y) as a witness(Z) to them.(AA)
9 "As for yourselves, be on your guard! People will hand you over to local councils, and you will be beaten in their synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings to testify to them because of me.
11 now when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not sollicitous about your defence, don't premeditate upon it; but what shall be suggested to you at the very occasion, that deliver: for it is not you that will plead, but the holy spirit.
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
11 (I)When they (g)arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.
11 So when they arrest you and hand you over, don’t worry beforehand what you will say. On the contrary, whatever is given to you in that hour—say it. For it isn’t you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
11 When they take you away and hand you over for trial, don't worry ahead of time about what you will say. Instead, say whatever is given to you at that time, because it won't be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 then the brother shall betray his brother to death, and the father his son: children shall prosecute their parents, and be the instruments to take away their lives:
12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and (h)have them put to death.
12 Then brother will betray(AC) brother to death,(AD) and a father his child. Children will rise up against parents and put them to death.
12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
13 you will be the object of universal hatred upon my account; but he that shall persevere unto the end, shall be saved.
13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
13 (J)You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
13 And you will be hated by everyone because of My name.(AE) But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.(d)(AF)
13 You will be hated continuously by everyone because of my name. But the person who endures to the end will be saved."
The Abomination Of Desolation
14 Now when you shall see the-abomination of desolation, mentioned by the prophet Daniel, establish'd where it ought not to be (let the reader observe) then let those, who are in Judea, flee to the mountains:
14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
14 “But (K)when you see the (L)abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
14 “When you see the abomination that causes desolation(AG)(e) standing where it should not” (let the reader understand(f)), “then those in Judea(AH) must flee to the mountains!
14 "So when you see the destructive desecration standing where it should not be (let the reader take note), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
15 he that is upon the battlements let him not descend into the house, nor enter therein to take any thing away: let
15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
15 The one who's on his housetop must not come down and go into his house to take anything out of it,
17 unhappy the women who are pregnant, and those who nurse children at such a time.
17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
17 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
17 "How terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days!
19 for the distress of that time will be such as never happen'd since the beginning of the world, which God created, to this present, nor ever shall be.
19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
19 For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred (N)since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.
19 For those will be days of tribulation,(AM) the kind that hasn’t been from the beginning(AN) of the world,(h)(AO) which God created, until now and never will be again!
19 because those days will be a time of suffering, a kind that has not happened from the beginning of God's creation until now, and certainly will never happen again.
20 so that if the Lord should suffer it to last, no man could escape: but he will not suffer the time to last long, out of regard to his elect.
20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
20 Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no (i)life would have been saved; but for the sake of the (j)elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
20 Unless the Lord(AP) limited those days,(AQ) no one would survive.(i) But He limited those days because of the elect,(AR) whom He chose.(AS)
20 If the Lord had not shortened those days, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days.
21 Then if any one shall say to you, Christ is here, or, he is there, don't believe it.
21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is (k)the Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him;
21 "At that time, if anyone says to you, "Look! Here is the Messiah!', or, "Look! There he is!' don't believe it,
22 for false Christs, and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and prodigies, so as to seduce, if it were possible, even the very elect.
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
22 for false Christs and (O)false prophets will arise, and will show (l)(P)signs and (Q)wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
22 For false messiahs(j) and false prophets will rise up and will perform signs and wonders(AU) to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
22 because false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce signs and omens to deceive, if possible, the elect.
23 be you therefore upon your guard: remember I have forewarned you against all events.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
23 But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.
23 And you must watch! I have told you everything in advance.
23 So be on your guard! I've told you everything before it happens."
The Arrival Of The Son Of Man
24 Now after the time of that distress, the sun shall be dark, and the moon shall give no light:
24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, (R)the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light,
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation:(AV)The sun will be darkened,and the moon will not shed its light;
24 "But after the suffering of those days, "The sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light,
25 the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
25 (S)and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in (m)the heavens will be shaken.
25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken loose.'
26 then shall they see the son of man coming in the clouds with power and great glory.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
26 Then they will see the Son of Man(AY) coming(AZ) in clouds(BA) with great power(BB) and glory.(BC)
26 Then people will see "the Son of Man coming in clouds' with great power and glory.
27 then will he send his angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the remotest part of the earth, to the remotest part of heaven.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
27 And then He will send forth the angels, and (V)will gather together His (n)elect from the four winds, (W)from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.
27 He will send out the angels(BD) and gather His elect(BE) from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky.(BF)
27 He'll send out his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven."
The Parable Of The Fig Tree
28 Consider this similitude taken from a fig-tree: when its branch is yet tender, and pushes out its leaves, you know that summer is near:
28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
28 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
28 “Learn(BG) this parable(BH) from the fig(BI) tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.(BJ)
28 "Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near.
29 so when you shall see these things happen, know that he is nigh, even at your doors.
29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
29 Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, (o)recognize that (p)He is near, right at the (q)door.
29 In the same way, when you see these things taking place, you will know that the Son of Man is near, right at the door.
30 I declare unto you, this generation shall not be extinct, till all these things be transacted.
30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
30 I assure you:(BK) This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.
30 I tell all of you with certainty, this generation will not disappear until all these things take place.
The Unknown Day And Hour
32 as to the day and hour, that no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor even the son; but the father only.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
32 (X)But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
32 “Now concerning that day(BO) or hour no one knows—neither the angels(BP) in heaven nor the Son(BQ)—except the Father.(BR)
32 "No one knows when that day or hour will come not the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father.
34 when a man travels into foreign parts, he leaves his goods in charge to his servants, he appoints to every one his task, and orders the porter to be vigilant,
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
34 (Z)It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and (t)putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
34 It is like(BU) a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his slaves,(BV) gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.
34 It's like a man who went on a trip. As he left home, he put his servants in charge, each with his own work, and he ordered the doorkeeper to be alert.
35 watch ye therefore (for you don't know when the master of the house will return; whether at evening, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning)
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
35 Therefore, (AA)be on the alert—for you do not know when the (u)master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or (AB)when the rooster crows, or (AC)in the morning—
35 Therefore be alert,(BW) since you don’t know when the master(BX) of the house is coming—whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning.
35 So keep on watching, because you don't know when the master of the house is coming whether in the evening, at three o'clock in the morning, or at dawn.
