A Demon-Possessed Gerasene Healed

1 And they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes.

1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

1 (A)They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

1 Then(A) they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes.(a)

1 They arrived at the other side of the sea in the territory of the Gerasenes.

2 And immediately on his going out of the ship there met him out of the tombs a man possessed by an unclean spirit,

2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

2 When He got out of (B)the boat, immediately a man from the tombs (C)with an unclean spirit met Him,

2 As soon as He got out of the boat, a man with an unclean(B) spirit(C) came out of the tombs(D) and met Him.

2 Just as Jesus stepped out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met him.

3 who had his dwelling in the tombs; and no one was able to bind him, not even with chains;

3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

3 and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;

3 He lived in the tombs.(E) No one was able to restrain him anymore—even with chains(F)

3 He lived among the tombs, and no one could restrain him any longer, not even with a chain.

4 because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn asunder by him, and the fetters were shattered; and no one was able to subdue him.

4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.

4 because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, but had snapped off the chains and smashed(G) the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue(H) him.

4 He had often been restrained with shackles and chains, but had snapped the chains apart and broken the shackles in pieces. No one could tame him.

5 And continually night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying and cutting himself with stones.

5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

5 Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.

5 And always, night(I) and day, he was crying out among the tombs(J) and in the mountains(K) and cutting himself with stones.

5 He kept screaming night and day among the tombs and on the mountainsides, and kept cutting himself with stones.

6 But seeing Jesus from afar off, he ran and did him homage,

6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before Him.

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell down in front of him,

7 and crying with a loud voice he says, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.

7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

7 and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, “(a)(D)What business do we have with each other, Jesus, (E)Son of (F)the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!”

7 And he cried out with a loud voice, “What do You have to do with me,(b) Jesus, Son(L) of the Most High God?(M) I beg(c) You before God, don’t torment(N) me!”

7 screaming in a loud voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you in the name of God never to torment me!"

8 For he said to him, Come forth, unclean spirit, out of the man.

8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

8 For He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

8 For He had told him, “Come out of the man, you unclean(O) spirit!”(P)

8 Jesus had been saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"

9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he says to him, Legion is my name, because we are many.

9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

9 And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is (G)Legion; for we are many.”

9 “What is your name?” He asked him.“My name is Legion,”(d)(Q) he answered Him, “because we are many.”

9 Then Jesus asked him, "What's your name?"

10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

10 And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

10 And he kept begging Him not to send them out of the region.

10 He told him, "My name is Legion, because there are many of us." He kept pleading with Jesus not to send them out of that region.

11 Now there was there just at the mountain a great herd of swine feeding;

11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

11 Now there was a large herd of swine feeding (b)nearby on the mountain.

11 Now a large herd of pigs(R) was there, feeding(S) on the hillside.

11 Now a large herd of pigs was grazing on a hillside nearby.

12 and they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine that we may enter into them.

12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

12 The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.”

12 The demons(e) begged Him, “Send us to the pigs, so we may enter them.”

12 So the demons begged him, "Send us among the pigs, so that we can go into them!"

13 And Jesus immediately allowed them. And the unclean spirits going out entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep slope, into the sea (about two thousand), and were choked in the sea.

13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

13 And He gave them permission. Then the unclean(T) spirits(U) came out and entered the pigs, and the herd of about 2,000 rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there.

13 So he let them do this. The unclean spirits came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd of about 2,000 rushed down a steep slope into the sea and drowned there.

14 And those that were feeding them fled and reported it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had taken place.

14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

14 Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.

14 The men who tended them(f) ran off(V) and reported it in the town and the countryside, and people went to see what had happened.

14 Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs ran away, they reported what had happened in the city and countryside. So the people went to see what had happened.

15 And they come to Jesus, and they see the possessed of demons sitting and clothed and sensible, him that had had the legion: and they were afraid.

15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

15 They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been (H)demon-possessed sitting down, (I)clothed and (J)in his right mind, the very man who had had the “(K)legion”; and they became frightened.

15 They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed(W) by the legion,(X) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind;(Y) and they were afraid.(Z)

15 When they came to Jesus and saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there dressed and in his right mind, they were frightened.

16 And they that had seen it related to them how it had happened to the man possessed by demons, and concerning the swine.

16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

16 Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the (L)demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.

16 The eyewitnesses described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed(AA) man and told about the pigs.

16 The people who had seen it told them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and the pigs.

17 And they began to beg him to depart from their coasts.

17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

17 And they began to (M)implore Him to leave their region.

17 Then they began to beg Him to leave their region.

17 So they began to beg Jesus to leave their territory.

18 And as he went on board ship, the man that had been possessed by demons besought him that he might be with him.

18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

18 (N)As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been (O)demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might (c)accompany Him.

18 As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging Him to be with Him.

18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging him to let him go with him.

19 And he suffered him not, but says to him, Go to thine home to thine own people, and tell them how great things the Lord has done for thee, and has had mercy on thee.

19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

19 And He did not let him, but He *said to him, (P)Go home to your people and report to them (d)what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”

19 But He would not let him; instead, He told him, “Go back home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord(AB) has done(AC) for you and how He has had mercy on you.”

19 But Jesus wouldn't let him. Instead, he told him, "Go home to your family, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been to you."

20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered.

20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

20 And he went away and began to (Q)proclaim in (R)Decapolis (e)what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

20 So he went out and began to proclaim(AD) in the Decapolis(AE) how much Jesus had done for him, and they were all amazed.(AF)

20 So the man left and began proclaiming in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was utterly amazed.

A Woman Healed And A Daughter Raised

21 And Jesus having passed over in the ship again to the other side, a great crowd gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

21 (S)When Jesus had crossed over again in (T)the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He (f)stayed (U)by the seashore.

21 When(AG) Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowd(AH) gathered around Him while He was by the sea.

21 When Jesus again had crossed to the other side in a boat, a large crowd gathered around him by the seashore.

22 And behold there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and seeing him, falls down at his feet;

22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

22 (V)One of (W)the synagogue (g)officials named Jairus *came up, and on seeing Him, *fell at His feet

22 One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus,(AI) came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet(AJ)

22 Then a synagogue leader named Jairus arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet

23 and he besought him much, saying, My little daughter is at extremity; I pray that thou shouldest come and lay thy hands upon her so that she may be healed, and may live.

23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

23 and *implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and (X)lay Your hands on her, so that she will (h)get well and live.”

23 and kept begging Him, “My little daughter is at death’s door.(g) Come and lay Your hands on(AK) her so she can get well(AL) and live.”

23 and begged him urgently, saying, "My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on her so that she may get well and live."

24 And he went with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed on him.

24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

24 And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.

24 So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against Him.

24 So Jesus went with him. A huge crowd kept following him and jostling him.

25 And a certain woman who had had a flux of blood twelve years,

25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,

25 A woman suffering from bleeding(AM) for 12 years

25 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years.

26 and had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent everything she had and had found no advantage from it, but had rather got worse,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse—

26 had endured(AN) much under many doctors.(AO) She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse.

26 Although she had endured a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all of her money, she had not been helped at all, but rather grew worse.

27 having heard concerning Jesus, came in the crowd behind and touched his clothes;

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His (i)cloak.

27 Having heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched(AP) His robe.(AQ)

27 Since she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his robe,

28 for she said, If I shall touch but his clothes I shall be healed.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

28 For she (j)thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will (k)get well.”

28 For she said, “If I can just touch His robes, I’ll be made well!”(AR)

28 because she had been saying, "If I can just touch his robe, I will get well."

29 And immediately her fountain of blood was dried up, and she knew in her body that she was cured from the scourge.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her (Y)affliction.

29 Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was cured(AS) of her affliction.

29 Her bleeding stopped at once, and she felt in her body that she was healed from her illness.

30 And immediately Jesus, knowing in himself the power that had gone out of him, turning round in the crowd said, Who has touched my clothes?

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

30 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that (Z)the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”

30 At once Jesus realized in Himself that power(AT) had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd(AU) and said, “Who touched My robes?”(AV)

30 Immediately Jesus became aware that power had gone out of him. So he turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

31 And his disciples said to him, Thou seest the crowd pressing on thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

31 And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”

31 His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’

31 His disciples asked him, "You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, "Who touched me?'"

32 And he looked round about to see her who had done this.

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

32 And He looked around to see the woman who had done this.

32 So He was looking around to see who had done this.

32 But he kept looking around to look at the woman who had done this.

33 But the woman, frightened and trembling, knowing what had taken place in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.

33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came with fear and trembling, fell down(AW) before Him, and told Him the whole truth.(AX)

33 So the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came forward fearfully, fell down trembling in front of him, and told him the whole truth.

34 And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith has healed thee; go in peace, and be well of thy scourge.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (AA)your faith has (l)made you well; (AB)go in peace and be healed of your (AC)affliction.”

34 “Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith(AY) has made you well.(h)(AZ) Go in peace and be free(i)(BA) from your affliction.”(BB)

34 He told her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed from your illness."

35 While he was yet speaking, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying, Thy daughter has died, why troublest thou the teacher any further?

35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

35 While He was still speaking, they *came from the house of the (AD)synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?”

35 While He was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher(BC) anymore?”

35 While he was still speaking, some people came from the synagogue leader's home and said, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore?"

36 But Jesus immediately, having heard the word spoken, says to the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not; only believe.

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the (AE)synagogue official, (AF)Do not be afraid any longer, only (m)believe.”

36 But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid.(BD) Only believe.”

36 But when Jesus heard what they said, he told the synagogue leader, "Stop being afraid! Just keep on believing."

37 And he suffered no one to accompany him save Peter and James, and John the brother of James.

37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

37 And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except (AG)Peter and (n)James and John the brother of (o)James.

37 He did not let anyone accompany Him except Peter,(BE) James,(BF) and John,(BG) James’s brother.

37 Jesus allowed no one to go further with him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

38 And he comes to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and sees the tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.

38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

38 They *came to the house of the (AH)synagogue official; and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.

38 They came to the leader’s house, and He saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly.

38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw mass confusion. People were crying and sobbing loudly.

39 And entering in he says to them, Why do ye make a tumult and weep? the child has not died, but sleeps.

39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

39 And entering in, He *said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.”

39 He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping?(BH) The child(BI) is not dead but asleep.”(BJ)

39 He entered the house and asked them, "Why all this confusion and crying? The child isn't dead. She's sleeping."

40 And they derided him. But he, having put them all out, takes with him the father of the child, and the mother, and those that were with him, and enters in where the child was lying.

40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

40 They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He *took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and *entered the room where the child was.

40 They started laughing at Him, but He put them all outside. He took the child’s father,(BK) mother, and those who were with Him, and entered the place where the child was.

40 They laughed and laughed at him. But when he had driven all of them outside, he took the child's father and mother, along with the men who were with him, and went into the room where the child was.

41 And having laid hold of the hand of the child, he says to her, Talitha koumi, which is, interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee, Arise.

41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

41 Taking the child by the hand, He *said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, (AI)I say to you, get up!”).

41 Then He took the child(BL) by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!”(j) (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”(BM)).

41 He took her by the hand and told her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Young lady, I tell you, get up!"

42 And immediately the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with great astonishment.

42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

42 Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.

42 Immediately the girl got up(BN) and began to walk.(BO) (She was 12 years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.(BP)

42 The young lady got up at once and started to walk. She was twelve years old. Instantly they were overcome with astonishment.

43 And he charged them much that no one should know this; and he desired that something should be given her to eat.

43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

43 And He (AJ)gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat.

43 Then He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this(BQ) and said that she should be given something to eat.

43 But Jesus strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about this. He also told them to give her something to eat.
