2 Jesus taught in the synagogue on the Sabbath. Many were astonished when they heard him. They asked: Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to this man and how did he perform these mighty works by his hands?
2 When the Sabbath came, He began (C)to teach in the synagogue; and the (D)many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such (b)miracles as these performed by His hands?
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

4 Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own people and in his own house.

11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

13 They cast out many demons. They anointed the sick with oil and healed them.

14 John the Baptist had become well known. King Herod heard that John had risen from the dead. Therefore he was doing these powerful works.
14 (T)And King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “(U)John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”
14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

15 But others said: It is Elijah. And others said: It is a prophet, like one of the prophets.

16 Herod said: It is John whom I beheaded, raised from the dead.

17 For Herod captured John and locked him in prison for the sake of Herodias his wife. She was his brother Philip's wife before he married her.

20 But Herod feared John. He knew he was a righteous and holy man so he kept him safe. That is why he listened to John but was perplexed.

20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

20 because Herod was afraid of John. He knew that John was a righteous and holy man, and so he protected him. Whenever he listened to John, he did much of what he said. In fact, he liked listening to him.
21 It was Herod's birthday. He invited his lords, the military commanders, and the prominent men of Galilee to supper.
21 A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday (AB)gave a banquet for his lords and (n)military commanders and the leading men (AC)of Galilee;
21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
21 Now an opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet(BM) for his nobles,(BN) military commanders,(BO) and the leading men of Galilee.(BP)
21 An opportunity came during Herod's birthday celebration, when he gave a banquet for his top officials, military officers, and the most important people of Galilee.
22 When the daughter of Herodias danced for Herod and his guests, she pleased him so much he promised her anything she desired.
22 and when the daughter of (AD)Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and (o)his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”
22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
22 When Herodias’s own daughter(g) came in and danced,(BQ) she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.”

25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

25 Immediately the girl hurried back to the king with her request, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter."
26 The king was very sorry. Even so he kept his promise to her. He did not turn her down. This also showed his dinner guests he was a man of his word.
26 And although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of (p)his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her.
26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

52 They had not understood the loaves of bread. Their minds were closed.

54 The people saw him as soon as they left the boat.

56 And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
56 Wherever He would go, into villages, towns, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might touch just the tassel(CX) of His robe.(CY) And everyone who touched it was made well.
