2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath."

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples do what (C)is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.”

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful(C) to do on the Sabbath!”

2 When the Pharisees saw this, they told him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

3 He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him:

4 how he entered the house of God, and (D)they ate the (b)consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?

4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate(a) the sacred bread, which is not lawful for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests?(D)

4 How is it that he went into the house of God and ate the Bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for him and his companions to eat but was reserved for the priests?

5 Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are innocent?

5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

5 Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple (c)break the Sabbath and are innocent?

5 Or haven’t you read in the Law(b) that on Sabbath days the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath and are innocent?(E)

5 Or haven't you read in the Law that on every Sabbath the priests in the Temple violate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?

6 I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.

6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

6 But I say to you that something (E)greater than the temple is here.

6 But I tell you, something greater than the Temple is here!

7 And if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

7 But if you had known what this (d)means, ‘(F)I desire (e)compassion, and not a sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.

A Man With A Withered Hand Healed

9 And he went on from there, and went into their synagogue.

9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

9 (H)Departing from there, He went into their synagogue.

9 Moving on from there, He entered their synagogue.(I)

9 Moving on from there, Jesus went into their synagogue.

10 And behold, there was a man with a withered hand. And they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" so that they might accuse him.

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

10 And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned (f)Jesus, asking, “(I)Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse Him.

10 There He saw a man who had a paralyzed hand. And in order to accuse Him they asked Him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”(J)

10 Suddenly, a man with a paralyzed hand appeared. The people asked Jesus if it was lawful to heal on Sabbath days, intending to accuse him of doing something wrong.

11 He said to them, "What man of you, if he has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

11 And He said to them, (J)What man (g)is there among you who (h)has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out?

11 But He said to them, “What man among you, if he had a sheep(d) that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, wouldn’t take hold of it and lift it out?(K)

11 But he asked them, "Is there a man among you who, if he had one sheep and it fell into a ditch on the Sabbath, wouldn't take hold of it and pull it out?

12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

12 (K)How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do (i)good on the Sabbath.”

12 A man is worth far more than a sheep,(L) so it is lawful to do what is good on the Sabbath.”

12 How much more is a human being worth than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on Sabbath days."

13 Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

13 Then He *said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” (L)He stretched it out, and it was restored to (j)normal, like the other.

13 Then He told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored,(M) as good as the other.

13 Then he told the man, "Hold out your hand." He held it out and it became normal, as healthy as his other hand.

14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, how they might destroy him.

14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

14 But the Pharisees went out and (k)(M)conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.(N)

14 The Pharisees, however, went out and plotted against Jesus to kill him.

God's Chosen Servant

15 Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all,

15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

15 But Jesus, (l)aware of this, withdrew from there. Many followed Him, and (N)He healed them all,

15 When Jesus became aware of this, He withdrew from there. Huge crowds(e) followed Him, and He healed them all.(O)

15 When Jesus became aware of this, he left that place. Many crowds followed him, and he healed all of them,

23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

23 All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, “This man cannot be the (Y)Son of David, can he?”

23 And all the crowds were astounded and said, “Perhaps this is the Son of David!”(U)

23 All the crowds were amazed and kept saying, "This man isn't the Son of David, is he?"

24 But when the Pharisees heard this they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man (Z)casts out demons only by (w)Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.”

24 When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “The man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.”(V)

25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.

25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

25 (AA)And (AB)knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, (x)Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and (y)any city or house divided against itself will not stand.

25 Knowing their thoughts,(W) He told them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.

26 If Satan(X) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?

26 So if Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How, then, can his kingdom stand?

27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

42 (AX)The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, (AY)something greater than Solomon is here.

42 The queen of the south(AR) will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look—something greater than Solomon is here!

An Unclean Spirit Returns

43 "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.

44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.

44 Then it says, ‘I’ll go back to my house that I came from.’ And returning, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order.

44 Then it says, "I will go back to my home that I left.' When it arrives, it finds it empty, swept clean, and put in order.

45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation."

45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

45 Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and (BA)the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.”

45 Then off it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man’s last condition is worse than the first.(AT) That’s how it will also be with this evil generation.”

45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and settle there. And so the final condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That's just what will happen to this evil generation!"
