When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.”

So he again sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. When the third captain of fifty went up, he came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him and said to him, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight.

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren,

what shall we do?”

And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas,

And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him, “I

adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.”

And they all said, “Are You the Son of God, then?” And He said to them, “

Yes, I am.”

The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”
