3 And (D)the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the (E)Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

3 Then the tempter approached Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”(D)

3 Then the tempter came. "Since you are the Son of God," he said, "tell these stones to become loaves of bread."

4 He answered, "It is written, Man is not to live on bread alone, but on every word that issues from the mouth of God."

4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘(F)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

4 But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.(E)(a)

4 But he answered, "It is written, "One must not live on bread alone, but on every word coming out of the mouth of God.'"

5 Then the devil conveyed him to the holy city and, placing him on the pinnacle of the temple,

5 Then the devil *took Him into (G)the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

5 Then the Devil took him to the Holy City and had him stand on the highest point of the Temple.

6 said to him, "If you are God's son, throw yourself down; for it is written, He will give his angels charge of you; they will bear you on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone."

6 and *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,(H)He will command His angels concerning You’;andOn their hands they will bear You up,So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:He will give His angels(G) orders concerning you,and they will support you with their handsso that you will not strikeyour foot against a stone.(H)(c)

6 He told Jesus, "Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written, "God will put his angels in charge of you,' and, "With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.'"

7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God."

7 Jesus said to him, (b)On the other hand, it is written, ‘(I)You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

7 Jesus told him, “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.(I)(d)

7 Jesus responded to him, "It is also written, "You must not tempt the Lord your God.'"

8 Once more the devil conveyed him to an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the realms of the world and their grandeur;

8 (J)Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

8 Again, the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

8 Once more the Devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, along with their splendor.

9 he said, "I will give you all that if you will fall down and worship me."

9 and he said to Him, “(K)All these things I will give You, if You fall down and (c)worship me.”

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

9 And he said to Him, “I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me.”(e)

9 He told Jesus, "I will give you all these things if you will bow down and worship me!"

10 Then Jesus told him, "Begone, Satan! it is written, You must worship the Lord your God, and serve him alone."

10 Then Jesus *said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘(L)You shall worship the Lord your God, and (d)serve Him only.’”

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

10 Then Jesus told him, “Go away,(f) Satan! For it is written:Worship the Lord your God,and serve only(J) Him.(g)

10 Then Jesus told him, "Go away, Satan! Because it is written, "You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"

11 At this the devil left him, and angels came up and ministered to him.

11 Then the devil *left Him; and behold, (M)angels came and began to minister to Him.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

11 Then the Devil left Him, and immediately angels came and began to serve Him.(K)

11 So the Devil left him, and angels came and began ministering to him.
