Humility And Unity

1 If there be, therefore, any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of spirit, if any tender affections and compassions,

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any (A)fellowship of the Spirit, if any (a)(B)affection and compassion,

1 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love,(A) if any fellowship with the Spirit,(B) if any affection and mercy,(C)

1 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in the Messiah, if there is any comfort of love, if there is any fellowship in the Spirit, if there is any compassion and sympathy,

2 Fill ye up my joy - that, the same thing, ye esteem, the same love, possessing, joined in soul, the one thing, esteeming, -

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

2 (C)make my joy complete (b)by (D)being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

2 fulfill my joy by thinking the same way,(D) having the same love,(E) sharing the same feelings, focusing on one(F) goal.

2 then fill me with joy by having the same attitude, sharing the same love, being united in spirit, and keeping one purpose in mind.

3 Nothing by way of faction, nothing by way of vain-glory, - but, in lowliness of mind, accounting, one another, superior to yourselves, -

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

3 Do nothing (c)from (d)(E)selfishness or (F)empty conceit, but with humility of mind (G)regard one another as more important than yourselves;

3 Do nothing out of rivalry(G) or conceit,(H) but in humility(I) consider others as more important(J) than yourselves.

3 Do not act out of selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility think of others as being better than yourselves.

4 Not, to your own things, severally looking, but, to the things of others, severally: -

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

4 (H)do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

4 Everyone should look out not only for his own interests,(K) but also for the interests of others.(L)

4 Do not be concerned about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others.

Christ's Humiliation And Exaltation

5 The same thing, esteem, in yourselves, which also, in Christ Jesus, ye esteem , -

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

5 (I)Have this attitude (e)in yourselves which was also in (J)Christ Jesus,

5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus,

5 Have the same attitude among yourselves that was also in the Messiah Jesus:

6 Who, in form of God, subsisting, not, a thing to be seized, accounted the being equal with God,

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

6 who, although He (K)existed in the (L)form of God, (M)did not regard equality with God a thing to be (f)grasped,

6 who, existing in the form of God,did not consider equality with God(M)as something to be used for His own advantage.(a)

6 In God's own form existed he, and shared with God equality, deemed nothing needed grasping.

7 But, himself, emptied, taking, a servant's form, coming to be, in men's likeness;

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

7 but (g)(N)emptied Himself, taking the form of a (O)bond-servant, and (P)being made in the likeness of men.

7 Instead He emptied Himself(N)by assuming the form of a slave,(O)taking on the likeness of men.(P)And when He had come as a manin His external form,

7 Instead, poured out in emptiness, a servant's form did he possess, a mortal man becoming. In human form he chose to be,

8 And, in fashion, being found, as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient as far as death, yea, death upon a cross.

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

8 Being found in appearance as a man, (Q)He humbled Himself by becoming (R)obedient to the point of death, even (S)death (h)on a cross.

8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedientto the point of death—even to death on a cross.(Q)

8 and lived in all humility, death on a cross obeying.

9 Wherefore also, God, uplifted him far on high, and favoured him with the name which is above every name, -

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

9 (T)For this reason also, God (U)highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him (V)the name which is above every name,

9 For this reason God highly exalted Him(R)and gave Him the namethat is above every name,

9 Now lifted up by God to heaven, a name above all others given, this matchless name possessing.

10 In order that, in the name of Jesus, every knee might bow - of beings in heaven, and on earth, and underground, -

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

10 so that at the name of Jesus (W)every knee will bow, of (X)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

10 so that at the name of Jesusevery knee will bow(S)of those who are in heaven(T) and on earthand under the earth(U)

10 And so, when Jesus' name is called, the knees of everyone should fall, wherever they're residing.

11 And, every tongue, might openly confess - that Jesus Christ is, Lord, unto the glory of God the Father.

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is (Y)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

11 and every tongue(V) should confessthat Jesus Christ is Lord,(b)to the glory(W) of God the Father.

11 Then every tongue in one accord, will say that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, while God the Father praising.

Holding Fast To The Word Of Life

12 So, then, my beloved - even as ye have always obeyed, not asin my presence only, but, now, much more, in my absence, with fear and trembling, your own salvation, be working out;

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

12 So then, my beloved, (Z)just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your (AA)salvation with (AB)fear and trembling;

12 So then, my dear friends,(X) just as you have always obeyed,(Y) not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

12 And so, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I am absent, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is, God, who energiseth within you, both the desiring and the energising, in behalf of his good pleasure.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

13 for it is (AC)God who is at work in you, both to will and to work (AD)for His good pleasure.

13 For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose.

13 For it is God who is producing in you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases him.

14 All things, be doing, apart from murmurings and disputings;

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

14 Do all things without (AE)grumbling or disputing;

14 Do everything without grumbling(Z) and arguing,(AA)

14 Do everything without complaining or arguing

15 In order that ye may become faultless and inviolate, children of God, blameless amidst a crooked and perverted generation, amongst whom ye appear as luminaries in the world,

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

15 so that you will (i)prove yourselves to be (AF)blameless and innocent, (AG)children of God above reproach in the midst of a (AH)crooked and perverse generation, among whom you (j)(AI)appear as (k)lights in the world,

15 so that you may be blameless(AB) and pure,(AC) children of God who are faultless(AD) in a crooked(AE) and perverted(AF) generation,(AG) among whom you shine like stars in the world.

15 so that you may be blameless and innocent, God's children without any faults among a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world

16 A word of light, holding forth, - as a matter of boasting unto me, for the day of Christ, - that, not in vain, I ran, nor, in vain, I toiled: -

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

16 holding (l)fast the word of life, so that in (AJ)the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not (AK)run in vain nor (AL)toil in vain.

16 Hold firmly to(c) the message(AH) of life. Then I can boast(AI) in the day of Christ(AJ) that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.

16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. Then I will be proud when the Messiah returns that I did not run in vain or work hard in vain.

17 Nay! if I am even to be poured out as a drink-offering, upon the sacrifice and public ministry of your faith, I rejoice, yea rejoice together with you all, -

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

17 But even if I am being (AM)poured out as a drink offering upon (AN)the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.

17 But even if I am poured out(AK) as a drink offering(AL) on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

17 Yet even if I am being poured out like an offering as part of the sacrifice and service I offer for your faith, I rejoice, and I share my joy with all of you.

18 For the same cause, moreover, do, ye also, rejoice, yea rejoice together with me.

18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

18 You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.

18 In the same way you should also be glad and rejoice with me.

18 In the same way, you also should rejoice and share your joy with me.

Timothy's Proven Character

19 I am hoping, however, in the Lord Jesus - Timothy, shortly, to send unto you, in order that, I also, may be of cheerful soul, when I have ascertained the things that concern you.

19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

19 But I hope (m)in the Lord Jesus to (AO)send (AP)Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition.

19 Now I hope in the Lord Jesus(AM) to send Timothy(AN) to you soon so that I also may be encouraged when I hear news about you.

19 Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon so that I can be encouraged when I learn of your condition.

20 For, no one, have I, of equal soul, who, genuinely, as to the things that concern you, will be anxious;

20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

20 For I have no one else (AQ)of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare.

20 For I have no one else like-minded who will genuinely care about your interests;

20 I do not have anyone else like him who takes a genuine interest in your welfare.

21 For, they all, their own things, do seek, not the things of Christ Jesus;

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

21 For they all (AR)seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.

21 all seek their own interests,(AO) not those of Jesus Christ.(AP)

21 For all the others look after their own interests, not after those of Jesus the Messiah.

22 But, of the proof of him, be taking note, - that, as child, with father, with me, hath he done service for the glad-message;

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

22 But you know (AS)of his proven worth, that (AT)he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel (AU)like a child serving his father.

22 But you know his proven character, because he has served with me in the gospel ministry like a son with a father.

22 But you know his proven worth how like a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.

23 Him, indeed, therefore, am I hoping to send - as soon as I can look off from the things that concern myself, - forthwith.

23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

23 (AV)Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me;

23 Therefore, I hope to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.

23 Therefore, I hope to send him as soon as I see how things are going to turn out for me.

24 I am assured, however, in the Lord, - that I, myself, shall shortly come.

24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

24 and (AW)I trust in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly.

24 I am convinced in the Lord that I myself will also come quickly.(AQ)

24 Indeed, I am confident in the Lord that I will come to visit you soon.

Epaphroditus' Mission

25 Needful, nevertheless have I accounted it - Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, but your apostle and public minister to my need, to send unto you;

25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

25 But I thought it necessary to send to you (AX)Epaphroditus, my brother and (AY)fellow worker and (AZ)fellow soldier, who is also your (n)(BA)messenger and (BB)minister to my need;

25 But I considered it necessary to send you Epaphroditus(AR)—my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier, as well as your messenger and minister to my need(AS)

25 Meanwhile, I thought it best to send Epaphroditus my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and minister to my need back to you.

26 Since he hath been longing to see, you all, and hath been in great distress, because ye had heard he was sick; -

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

26 because he was longing (o)for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.

26 since he has been longing for all of you and was distressed because you heard that he was sick.

26 For he has been longing for all of you and is troubled because you heard that he was sick.

27 And, in fact, he was sick, nigh unto death; but, God, had mercy on him, - and, not on him only, but, on me also, lest, sorrow upon sorrow, I should have.

27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow.

27 Indeed, he was so sick that he nearly died. However, God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have one grief on top of another.

27 Indeed, he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have one sorrow on top of another.

28 The more promptly, therefore, have I sent him, that, seeing him again, ye may rejoice, and, I, the less sorrowful, may be.

28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you.

28 For this reason, I am very eager to send him so that you may rejoice when you see him again and I may be less anxious.

28 Therefore, I am especially eager to send him so that you may have the joy of seeing him again, and so that I may feel relieved.

29 Be giving him welcome, therefore, in the Lord, with all joy; and, such as he, in honour, be holding, -

29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

29 (BC)Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and (BD)hold men like him in high regard;

29 Therefore, welcome him in the Lord with all joy and hold men like him in honor,

29 So joyfully welcome him in the Lord and make sure you honor such people highly,

30 Because, for the sake of the work of the Lord, unto death, he drew nigh, running hazard with his life, that he might fill up your lack of the public service, towards me.

30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

30 because he came close to death (p)(BE)for the work of Christ, risking his life to (BF)complete (q)what was deficient in your service to me.

30 because he came close to death for the work(AT) of Christ, risking his life to make up what was lacking in your ministry to me.

30 because he came close to death for the work of the Messiah by risking his life to complete what remained unfinished in your service to me.
