8 (M)Hear, my son, your father’s instructionAnd (N)do not forsake your mother’s teaching;

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction,and don’t reject your mother’s teaching,(I)

8 My son, listen to your father's instruction, and do not let go of your mother's teaching.

9 For they will be a crown of grace for your head, and chain-ornaments about your neck.

9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

9 Indeed, they are a (O)graceful wreath to your headAnd (b)(P)ornaments about your neck.

9 for they will be a garland(J) of grace on your headand a gold chain around your neck.(K)

9 They will be a graceful wreath for your head and a chain for your neck.

10 My son, if sinners would take you out of the right way, do not go with them.

10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

10 My son, if sinners (Q)entice you,(R)Do not consent.

10 My son, if sinners entice you,(L)don’t be persuaded.(M)

10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

11 If they say, Come with us; let us make designs against the good, waiting secretly for the upright, without cause;

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

11 If they say, “Come with us,Let us (S)lie in wait for blood,Let us (T)ambush the innocent without cause;

11 If they say—“Come with us!Let’s set an ambush(N) and kill someone.(c)Let’s attack some innocent person(O) just for fun!(d)

11 If they say, "Come with us! Let's lie in wait for blood; let's ambush some innocent person for no reason at all.

12 Let us overcome them living, like the underworld, and in their strength, as those who go down to death;

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

12 Let us (U)swallow them alive like Sheol,Even whole, as those who (V)go down to the pit;

12 Let’s swallow them alive,(P) like Sheol,still healthy as they go down to the Pit.(Q)

12 Let's swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down into the Pit.

13 Goods of great price will be ours, our houses will be full of wealth;

13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth,We will fill our houses with spoil;

13 We’ll find all kinds of valuable propertyand fill our houses with plunder.(R)

13 We'll find all kinds of valuable wealth, and we'll fill our houses with spoil.

14 Take your chance with us, and we will all have one money-bag:

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

14 Throw in your lot (c)with us,We shall all have one purse,”

14 Throw in your lot with us,and we’ll all share our money”(e)

14 Throw your lot in with us, and all of us will have one purse."

15 My son, do not go with them; keep your feet from their ways:

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

15 My son, (W)do not walk in the way with them.(X)Keep your feet from their path,

15 my son, don’t travel that road with them(S)or set foot on their path,(T)

15 My son, do not go along with them, and keep your feet away from their paths!

16 For their feet are running after evil, and they are quick to take a man's life.

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

16 For (Y)their feet run to evilAnd they hasten to shed blood.

16 because their feet run toward troubleand they hurry to commit murder.(f)(U)

16 For they run toward evil; these enticers shed blood without hesitation.

17 Truly, to no purpose is the net stretched out before the eyes of the bird:

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

17 Indeed, it is (d)useless to spread the baited netIn the sight of any (e)bird;

17 It is foolish to spread a netwhere any bird can see it,

17 Look, it is useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds,

18 And they are secretly waiting for their blood and making ready destruction for themselves.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

18 But they (Z)lie in wait for their own blood;They ambush their own lives.

18 but they set an ambush to kill themselves;(g)they attack their own lives.

18 but these people lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush only themselves.

19 Such is the fate of everyone who goes in search of profit; it takes away the life of its owners.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

19 So are the ways of everyone who (AA)gains by violence;It takes away the life of its possessors.

19 Such are the paths of all who make profit dishonestly;(V)it takes the lives of those who receive it.(h)

19 Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it.

The Call Of Lady Wisdom

20 Wisdom is crying out in the street; her voice is loud in the open places;

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

20 (AB)Wisdom shouts in the street,She (f)lifts her voice in the square;

20 Wisdom calls out in the street;she raises her voice in the public squares.(W)

20 Wisdom cries out in the street; she raises her voice in the public squares.

21 Her words are sounding in the meeting-places, and in the doorways of the town:

21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

21 At the head of the noisy streets she cries out;At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:

21 She cries out above(i) the commotion;she speaks at the entrance of the city gates:

21 She calls out at the busiest part of the noisy streets, and at the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words:

22 How long, you simple ones, will foolish things be dear to you? and pride a delight to the haters of authority? how long will the foolish go on hating knowledge?

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

22 “How long, O (g)(AC)naive ones, will you love (h)being simple-minded?And (AD)scoffers delight themselves in scoffingAnd fools (AE)hate knowledge?

22 “How long, foolish ones, will you love ignorance?How long will you mockers(X) enjoy mockingand you fools hate knowledge?(Y)

22 "You naive ones, how long will you love naivety And how long will scoffers delight in scoffing or fools hate knowledge?"

23 Be turned again by my sharp words: see, I will send the flow of my spirit on you, and make my words clear to you.

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

23 “Turn to my reproof,Behold, I will (AF)pour out my spirit on you;I will make my words known to you.

23 If you respond to my warning,(j)(Z)then I will pour out my spirit on you(AA)and teach you my words.

23 Return to my correction! Look, I will pour out my spirit on you, and I will make my words known to you.

24 Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand;

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

24 “Because (AG)I called and you (AH)refused,I (AI)stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

24 Since I called out and you refused,(AB)extended my hand and no one paid attention,(AC)

24 "Because I called out to you and you refused to respond I appealed, but no one paid attention

25 You were not controlled by my guiding, and would have nothing to do with my sharp words:

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

25 And you (AJ)neglected all my counselAnd did not (AK)want my reproof;

25 since you neglected all my counsel(AD)and did not accept my correction,

25 because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction,

26 So in the day of your trouble I will be laughing; I will make sport of your fear;

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

26 I will also (AL)laugh at your (AM)calamity;I will mock when your (AN)dread comes,

26 I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity.(AE)I will mock when terror strikes you,

26 I will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when what you fear comes,

27 When your fear comes on you like a storm, and your trouble like a rushing wind; when pain and sorrow come on you.

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

27 When your dread comes like a stormAnd your calamity comes like a (AO)whirlwind,When distress and anguish come upon you.

27 when terror strikes you like a stormand your calamity comes like a whirlwind,when trouble and stress overcome you.

27 when what you dread comes like a storm, and your calamity comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Then I will give no answer to their cries; searching for me early, they will not see me:

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

28 “Then they will (AP)call on me, but I will not answer;They will (AQ)seek me diligently but they will not find me,

28 Then they will call me, but I won’t answer;they will search for me, but won’t find me.(AF)

28 "Then they will call out to me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.

29 For they were haters of knowledge, and did not give their hearts to the fear of the Lord:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

29 Because they (AR)hated knowledgeAnd did not choose the fear of the Lord.

29 Because they hated knowledge,didn’t choose to fear the Lord,(AG)

29 "Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD;

30 They had no desire for my teaching, and my words of protest were as nothing to them.

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

30 “They (AS)would not accept my counsel,They spurned all my reproof.

30 were not interested in my counsel,and rejected all my correction,(AH)

30 they did not want my advice, and they rejected all my correction.

31 So the fruit of their way will be their food, and with the designs of their hearts they will be made full.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

31 “So they shall (AT)eat of the fruit of their own wayAnd be (AU)satiated with their own devices.

31 they will eat the fruit of their way(AI)and be glutted with their own schemes.(AJ)

31 They will eat the fruit of their way, and they will be filled with their own devices.

32 For the turning back of the simple from teaching will be the cause of their death, and the peace of the foolish will be their destruction.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

32 “For the (AV)waywardness of the (i)naive will kill them,And the complacency of fools will destroy them.

32 For the turning away of the inexperienced will kill them,(AK)and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

32 Indeed, the waywardness of the naive will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

33 But whoever gives ear to me will take his rest safely, living in peace without fear of evil.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

33 “But (AW)he who listens to me shall (j)live securelyAnd will be at ease from the dread of evil.”

33 But whoever listens to me will live securelyand be free from the fear of danger.”(AL)

33 "But the person who listens to me will live safely and will be secure from the fear of evil."
