The Benefits Of Wisdom

1 My son, if you will take my words to your heart, storing up my laws in your mind;

1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

1 My son, if you will (A)receive my wordsAnd (B)treasure my commandments within you,

1 My son, if you accept my words(A)and store up my commands within you,

1 My son, if you accept my words, and treasure my instructions

2 So that your ear gives attention to wisdom, and your heart is turned to knowledge;

2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

2 (C)Make your ear attentive to wisdom,Incline your heart to understanding;

2 listening closely(a) to wisdomand directing your heart to understanding;

2 making your ear attentive to wisdom, and turning your heart to understanding

3 Truly, if you are crying out for good sense, and your request is for knowledge;

3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

3 For if you cry for discernment,(a)Lift your voice for understanding;

3 furthermore, if you call out to insightand lift your voice to understanding,

3 if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,

4 If you are looking for her as for silver, and searching for her as for stored-up wealth;

4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

4 If you seek her as (D)silverAnd search for her as for (E)hidden treasures;

4 if you seek it like silverand search for it like hidden treasure,(B)

4 if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure,

5 Then the fear of the Lord will be clear to you, and knowledge of God will be yours.

5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

8 He keeps watch on the ways which are right, and takes care of those who have the fear of him.

8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

8 Guarding the paths of justice,And He (I)preserves the way of His godly ones.

8 so that He may guard the paths of justiceand protect the way of His loyal followers.(E)

8 guarding the paths of the just and protecting the way of his faithful ones.

9 Then you will have knowledge of righteousness and right acting, and upright behaviour, even of every good way.

9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice,and integrity—every good path.

9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and upright every good path.

10 For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul;

10 For wisdom will enter your mind,and knowledge will delight your heart.

11 Wise purposes will be watching over you, and knowledge will keep you;

11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

11 Discretion will protect you; understanding will watch over you,

12 Giving you salvation from the evil man, from those whose words are false;

12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

12 To (O)deliver you from the way of evil,From the man who speaks (P)perverse things;

12 rescuing you from the way of evil—from the one who says perverse things,

12 delivering you from the way of evil, from men who speak perverse things,

13 Who give up the way of righteousness, to go by dark roads;

13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

13 From those who (Q)leave the paths of uprightnessTo walk in the (R)ways of darkness;

13 from those who abandon the right pathsto walk in ways of darkness,(G)

13 and from those who abandon the right path to travel along the ways of darkness;

14 Who take pleasure in wrongdoing, and have joy in the evil designs of the sinner;

14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

14 Who (S)delight in doing evilAnd rejoice in the perversity of evil;

14 from those who enjoy doing evil(H)and celebrate perversion,

14 who delight in doing evil, and rejoice in the perverseness of evil;

15 Whose ways are not straight, and whose footsteps are turned to evil:

15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

15 Whose paths are (T)crooked,And who are devious in their ways;

15 whose paths are crooked,(I)and whose ways are devious.(J)

15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways,

16 To take you out of the power of the strange woman, who says smooth words with her tongue;

16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

16 To (U)deliver you from the strange woman,From the (b)(V)adulteress who flatters with her words;

16 It will rescue you from a forbidden woman,(K)from a stranger(c) with her flattering talk,(L)

16 delivering you from the adulteress, from the immoral woman with her seductive words,

17 Who is false to the husband of her early years, and does not keep the agreement of her God in mind:

17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

17 That leaves the (W)companion of her youthAnd forgets the (X)covenant of her God;

17 who abandons the companion of her youth(M)and forgets the covenant of her God;

17 someone who abandoned the companion of her youth and forgot the covenant of her God.

18 For her house is on the way down to death; her footsteps go down to the shades:

18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

18 For (Y)her house (c)sinks down to deathAnd her tracks lead to the (d)dead;

18 for her house sinks down to deathand her ways to the land of the departed spirits.(N)

18 For her house leads down to death, and her paths down to the realm of the dead.

19 Those who go to her do not come back again; their feet do not keep in the ways of life:

19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

19 None (Z)who go to her return again,Nor do they reach the (AA)paths of life.

19 None return who go to her;none reach the paths of life.(O)

19 None who go to her return, nor do they reach the paths of life.

20 So that you may go in the way of good men, and keep in the footsteps of the upright.

20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

20 So you will (AB)walk in the way of good menAnd keep to the (AC)paths of the righteous.

20 So follow the way of good people,(P)and keep to the paths of the righteous.

20 This is how you will walk in the way of good men and will keep to the paths of the righteous.

21 For the upright will be living in the land, and the good will have it for their heritage.

21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

21 For (AD)the upright will (e)live in the landAnd (AE)the blameless will remain in it;

21 For the upright will inhabit the land,and those of integrity will remain in it;(Q)

21 For the upright will live in the land, and people of integrity will remain in it.

22 But sinners will be cut off from the land, and those whose acts are false will be uprooted.

22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
