A Plea For Protection

1 For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.Lord, I seek refuge in You;let me never be disgraced.(A)Save me by Your righteousness.

1 For the choir director. A Psalm of David.(A)In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge;Let me never (B)be ashamed;(C)In Your righteousness deliver me.

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge. Let me never be ashamed. Because you are righteous, deliver me!

1 In You, O Lord, I have placed my trust and taken refuge;Let me never be (a)ashamed;In Your righteousness rescue me.

2 Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly.Be a rock of refuge for me,a mountain fortress to save me.(B)

2 (D)Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly;Be to me a (E)rock of (a)strength,A stronghold to save me.

2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

2 Listen to me, and deliver me quickly. Become a rock of safety for me, a fortified citadel to deliver me;

2 Incline Your ear to me, deliver me quickly;Be my rock of refuge,And a strong fortress to save me.

3 For You are my rock and my fortress;(C)You lead and guide mebecause of Your name.(D)

3 For You are my (b)rock and (F)my fortress;For (G)Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.

3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

3 For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name guide me and lead me.

3 Yes, You are my rock and my fortress;For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.

4 You will free me from the netthat is secretly set for me,for You are my refuge.(E)

4 You will (H)pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,For You are my (I)strength.

4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

4 Rescue me from the net that they concealed to trap me; for you are my strength.

4 You will draw me out of the net that they have secretly laid for me,For You are my strength and my stronghold.

5 Into Your hand I entrust my spirit;(F)You redeem(a) me, Lord, God of truth.(G)

5 (J)Into Your hand I commit my spirit;You have (K)ransomed me, O Lord, (L)God of (c)truth.

5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; for you have redeemed me, LORD God of truth.

5 (b)Into Your hand I commit my spirit;You have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth and faithfulness.(A)

6 I(b) hate those who are devoted to worthless idols,but I trust in the Lord.(H)

6 I hate those who (M)regard (d)vain idols,But I (N)trust in the Lord.

6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

6 I despise those who trust vain idols; but I have trusted in the LORD.

6 I hate those who pay regard to vain (empty, worthless) idols;But I trust in the Lord [and rely on Him with unwavering confidence].

7 I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful lovebecause You have seen my affliction.You have known the troubles of my life(I)

7 I will (O)rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness,Because You have (P)seen my affliction;You have known the troubles of my soul,

7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

7 I will rejoice and be glad in your gracious love, for you see my affliction and take note that my soul is distressed.

7 I will rejoice and be glad in Your steadfast love,Because You have seen my affliction;You have taken note of my life’s distresses,

8 and have not handed me over to the enemy.(J)You have set my feet in a spacious place.(K)

8 And You have not (Q)given me over into the hand of the enemy;You have set my feet in a large place.

8 And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

8 You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy, but you have set my feet in a sturdy place.

8 And You have not given me into the hand of the enemy;You have set my feet in a broad place.

9 Be gracious to me, Lord,because I am in distress;(L)my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow—my whole being(c) as well.(M)

9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for (R)I am in distress;My (S)eye is wasted away from grief, (T)my soul and my body also.

9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

9 Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes have been consumed by my grief along with my soul and my body.

9 Be gracious and compassionate to me, O Lord, for I am in trouble;My eye is clouded and weakened by grief, my soul and my body also.

10 Indeed, my life is consumed with griefand my years with groaning;(N)my strength has failedbecause of my sinfulness,(d)and my bones waste away.(O)

10 For my life is spent with (U)sorrowAnd my years with sighing;My (V)strength has failed because of my iniquity,And (W)my (e)body has wasted away.

10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

10 My life is consumed by sorrow, my years with groaning. My strength has faltered because of my iniquity; my bones have been consumed.

10 For my life is spent with sorrowAnd my years with sighing;My strength has failed because of my iniquity,And even my body has wasted away.

11 I am ridiculed by all my adversariesand even by my neighbors.I am dreaded by my acquaintances;those who see me in the street run from me.(P)

11 Because of all my adversaries, I have become a (X)reproach,Especially to my (Y)neighbors,And an object of dread to my acquaintances;Those who see me in the street flee from me.

11 I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

11 I have become an object of reproach to all my enemies, especially to my neighbors. I have become an object of fear to my friends, and whoever sees me outside runs away from me.

11 Because of all my enemies I have become a reproach and disgrace,Especially to my neighbors,And an object of dread to my acquaintances;Those who see me on the street run from me.

12 I am forgotten: gone from memorylike a dead person—like broken pottery.(Q)

13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

13 I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life.

13 For I have heard the slander and whispering of many,Terror is on every side;While they schemed together against me,They plotted to take away my life.(B)

14 But I trust in You, Lord;I say, “You are my God.”(T)

14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord,I say, “(AE)You are my God.”

14 But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

14 But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God."

14 But as for me, I trust [confidently] in You and Your greatness, O Lord;I said, “You are my God.”

15 The course of my life is in Your power;(U)deliver me from the power of my enemiesand from my persecutors.(V)

15 My (AF)times are in Your hand;(AG)Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.

15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

15 My times are in your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and from those who pursue me.

15 My times are in Your hands;Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue and persecute me.

16 Show Your favor to Your servant;save me by Your faithful love.(W)

16 Make Your (AH)face to shine upon Your servant;(AI)Save me in Your lovingkindness.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.

16 May your face shine on your servant; in your gracious love, deliver me.

17 Lord, do not let me be disgraced when I call on You.(X)Let the wicked be disgraced;let them be silent(e)(f) in Sheol.(Y)

17 Let me not be (AJ)put to shame, O Lord, for I call upon You;Let the (AK)wicked be put to shame, let them (AL)be silent in (g)Sheol.

17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

17 Let me not be ashamed, LORD, for I have called upon you. Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in the next life.

17 Let me not be put to shame, O Lord, for I call on You;Let the wicked (godless) be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).

18 Let lying lips be quieted;(Z)they speak arrogantly against the righteouswith pride and contempt.(AA)

18 Let the (AM)lying lips be mute,Which (AN)speak arrogantly against the righteousWith pride and contempt.

18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

18 Let the lying lips be made still, especially those who speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.

18 Let the lying lips be mute,Which speak insolently and arrogantly against the [consistently] righteousWith pride and contempt.

19 How great is Your goodnessthat You have stored up for those who fear Youand accomplished in the sight of everyonefor those who take refuge in You.(AB)

19 How great is Your (AO)goodness,Which You have stored up for those who fear You,Which You have wrought for those who (AP)take refuge in You,(AQ)Before the sons of men!

19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

19 How great is your goodness that you have reserved for those who fear you, that you have set in place for those who take refuge in you, in the presence of the children of men.

19 How great is Your goodness,Which You have stored up for those who [reverently] fear You,Which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You,(c)Before the sons of man!

20 You hide them in the protection of Your presence;You conceal them in a shelter(g)from the schemes of men,from quarrelsome tongues.(AC)

20 You hide them in the (AR)secret place of Your presence from the (AS)conspiracies of man;You keep them secretly in a (h)shelter from the (AT)strife of tongues.

20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

20 You will hide them in the secret place of your presence, away from the conspiracies of men. You will hide them in your tent, away from their contentious tongues.

20 In the secret place of Your presence You hide them from the plots and conspiracies of man;You keep them secretly in a shelter (pavilion) from the strife of tongues.

21 May the Lord be praised,for He has wonderfully shown His faithful love to mein a city under siege.(h)(AD)

21 (AU)Blessed be the Lord,For He has made (AV)marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged (AW)city.

21 Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

21 Blessed be the LORD! In a marvelous way he demonstrated his gracious love to me, when I was in a city under siege.

21 Blessed be the Lord,For He has shown His marvelous favor and lovingkindness to me [when I was assailed] in a besieged city.

22 In my alarm I had said,“I am cut off from Your sight.”(AE)But You heard the sound of my pleadingwhen I cried to You for help.(AF)

22 As for me, (AX)I said in my alarm,“I am (AY)cut off from before Your eyes”;Nevertheless You (AZ)heard the voice of my supplicationsWhen I cried to You.

22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

22 When I said in my panic, "I have been cut off in your sight," then you surely heard the voice of my prayer in my plea to you for help.

22 As for me, I said in my alarm,“I am cut off from Your eyes.”Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications (specific requests)When I cried to You [for help].

23 Love the Lord, all His faithful ones.(AG)The Lord protects the loyal,but fully repays the arrogant.(AH)

23 O love the Lord, all you (BA)His godly ones!The Lord (BB)preserves the faithfulAnd fully (BC)recompenses the proud doer.

23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

23 Love the LORD, all his godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and repays those who act with proud motives.

23 O love the Lord, all you His godly ones!The Lord preserves the faithful [those with moral and spiritual integrity]And fully repays the [self-righteousness of the] arrogant.

24 Be strong(i) and courageous,all you who put your hope in the Lord.(AI)

24 (BD)Be strong and let your heart take courage,All you who (i)hope in the Lord.

24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

24 Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. A Davidic instruction.
