Create In Me A Clean Heart, O God

1 For the music director; a psalm of David, written when Nathan the prophet confronted him after David's affair with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, because of your loyal love! Because of your great compassion, wipe away my rebellious acts!

1 For the choir director. A Psalm of David, when (a)Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.(A)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;According to the greatness of (B)Your compassion (C)blot out my transgressions.

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.} Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

1 Have mercy, God, according to your gracious love, according to your unlimited compassion, erase my transgressions.

2 Wash away my wrongdoing! Cleanse me of my sin!

2 (D)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquityAnd (E)cleanse me from my sin.

2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I am aware of my rebellious acts; I am forever conscious of my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgression; my sin remains continuously before me.

4 Against you -- you above all -- I have sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. So you are just when you confront me; you are right when you condemn me.

4 (G)Against You, You only, I have sinnedAnd done what is (H)evil in Your sight,So that (I)You (c)are justified (d)when You speakAnd (e)blameless when You judge.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

4 Against You—You alone—I have sinnedand done this evil in Your sight.(E)So You are right when You pass sentence;You are blameless when You judge.(F)

4 Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done what was evil in your sight. As a result, you are just in your pronouncement and clear in your judgment.

5 Look, I was guilty of sin from birth, a sinner the moment my mother conceived me.

5 Behold, I was (J)brought forth in iniquity,And in sin my mother conceived me.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

5 Indeed, I was guilty when I was born;I was sinful when my mother conceived me.(G)

5 Indeed, in iniquity I was brought forth; in sin my mother conceived me.

6 Look, you desire integrity in the inner man; you want me to possess wisdom.

6 Behold, You desire (K)truth in the (f)innermost being,And in the hidden part You will (L)make me know wisdom.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

6 Surely You desire integrity in the inner self,and You teach me wisdom deep within.(H)

6 Indeed, you are pleased with truth in the inner person, and you will teach me wisdom in my innermost parts.

7 Sprinkle me with water and I will be pure; wash me and I will be whiter than snow.

7 (g)Purify me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;(h)Wash me, and I shall be (N)whiter than snow.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Grant me the ultimate joy of being forgiven! May the bones you crushed rejoice!

10 Create for me a pure heart, O God! Renew a resolute spirit within me!

12 Let me again experience the joy of your deliverance! Sustain me by giving me the desire to obey!

13 Then I will teach rebels your merciful ways, and sinners will turn to you.

14 Rescue me from the guilt of murder, O God, the God who delivers me! Then my tongue will shout for joy because of your deliverance.

15 O Lord, give me the words! Then my mouth will praise you.

17 The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit -- O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.

17 The sacrifices of God are a (AG)broken spirit;A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is(d) a broken spirit.God, You will not despise a broken and humbled heart.(T)

17 True sacrifice to God is a broken spirit. A broken and chastened heart, God, you will not despise.

18 Because you favor Zion, do what is good for her! Fortify the walls of Jerusalem!

18 (AH)By Your favor do good to Zion;(n)(AI)Build the walls of Jerusalem.

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

18 In Your good pleasure, cause Zion to prosper;build(e) the walls of Jerusalem.(U)

18 Show favor to Zion in your good pleasure; and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then you will accept the proper sacrifices, burnt sacrifices and whole offerings; then bulls will be sacrificed on your altar.

19 Then You will delight in (o)(AJ)righteous sacrifices,In (AK)burnt offering and whole burnt offering;Then (p)young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

19 Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices,whole burnt offerings;then bulls will be offered on Your altar.(V)

19 Then you will be pleased with right sacrifices, with burnt offerings, and with whole burnt offerings. Then they will offer bulls on your altar. To the Director: A Davidic instruction about Doeg, the Edomite, when he went to Saul and told him, "David went to the house of Abimelech."
