1 O God, you [are] my God; I will seek you diligently. My soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you [as] in a dry and weary land without water.

1 A Psalm of David, (a)when he was in the wilderness of Judah.O God, (A)You are my God; I shall seek You (b)earnestly; My soul (B)thirsts for You, my flesh (c)yearns for You,In a (C)dry and weary land where there is no water.

1 A Davidic psalm. When he was in the Wilderness of Judah.(A)God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.I thirst for You;my body faints for Youin a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.(B)

1 God, you are my God! I will fervently seek you. My soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you in a dry, weary, and parched land.

2 Thus I have seen you in the sanctuary, beholding your strength and glory.

2 Thus I have (D)seen You in the sanctuary,To see Your power and Your glory.

2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

2 So I gaze on You in the sanctuaryto see Your strength and Your glory.(C)

2 So I have looked for you in the sanctuary, to behold your power and glory.

3 Because your loyal love [is] better than life, my lips will praise you.

3 Because Your (E)lovingkindness is better than life,My lips will praise You.

3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

3 My lips will glorify Youbecause Your faithful love is better than life.(D)

3 Because your gracious love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you.

4 So I will bless you while I live. I will lift up my {hands} in your name.

4 So I will bless You (F)as long as I live;I will (G)lift up my hands in Your name.

4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

4 So I will praise You as long as I live;at Your name, I will lift up my hands.(E)

4 So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in your name.

5 My soul will be satisfied [as with the] best and richest [food], and [with] joyful lips my mouth will praise.

5 My soul is (H)satisfied as with (d)marrow and fatness,And my mouth offers (I)praises with joyful lips.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

5 You satisfy me as with rich food;(a)(F)my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.(G)

5 Just as I am satisfied with the choicest of foods, so my lips will praise you joyfully.

6 When I remember you on my bed, I meditate on you in [the] night watches.

6 When I remember You (J)on my bed,I meditate on You in the (K)night watches,

6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

6 When I think of You as I lie on my bed,I meditate on You during the night watches(H)

6 When I think of you in bed, I will meditate on you in the night watches.

7 Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

7 For (L)You have been my help,And in the (M)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

7 because You are my helper;(I)I will rejoice in the shadow of Your wings.(J)

7 For you have been my strength, and in the shadow of your wings I will shout for joy.

8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

8 My soul (N)clings (e)to You;Your (O)right hand upholds me.

8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

8 I follow close to You;Your right hand holds on to me.(K)

8 My soul clings to you, even as your right hand supports me.

9 But as for them [who] seek my life for ruin, they will go into the depths of the earth.

9 But those who (P)seek my (f)life to destroy it,Will go into the (g)(Q)depths of the earth.

9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

9 But those who seek to destroy my lifewill go into the depths of the earth.(L)

9 But as for those who seek to destroy me, they will go down to the depths of the earth;

10 They [who] would {deliver him to the sword} will become a portion for jackals.

10 (h)They will be (i)(R)delivered over to the power of the sword; They will be a (j)(S)prey for foxes.

10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

10 They will be given over to the power of the sword;(M)they will become the jackals’ prey.

10 May they be given over to the power of the sword; may they become carrion for jackals.

11 However, the king will rejoice in God. Everyone who swears an oath by him will boast, because [the] mouth of [the] liars will be stopped.

11 But the (T)king will rejoice in God;Everyone who (U)swears by Him will glory,For the (V)mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

11 But the king will rejoice in God;(N)all who swear by Him(b) will boast, for the mouths of liars will be shut.(O)

11 But as for the king, he will rejoice in God. Indeed, everyone who swears by God will exult, because the mouths of liars will be silenced. To the Director: A Davidic Psalm.
