1 Of God, why have you put us away from you for ever? why is the fire of your wrath smoking against the sheep who are your care?

1 A (a)Maskil of Asaph.O God, why have You (A)rejected us forever?Why does Your anger (B)smoke against the (C)sheep of Your (b)pasture?

1 {Maschil of Asaph.} O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

1 Why, God? Have you rejected us forever? Your anger is burning against the sheep of your pasture.

2 Keep in mind your band of worshippers, for whom you gave payment in the days which are past, whom you took for yourself as the people of your heritage; even this mountain of Zion, which has been your resting-place.

2 Remember Your congregation, which You have (D)purchased of old,Which You have (E)redeemed to be the (F)tribe of Your inheritance;And this Mount (G)Zion, where You have dwelt.

2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

2 Remember Your congregation,which You purchased long agoand redeemed as the tribe for Your own possession.(C)Remember Mount Zion where You dwell.(D)

2 Remember your community, whom you purchased long ago, the tribe whom you redeemed for your possession. Remember Mount Zion, where you live.

3 Go up and see the unending destruction; all the evil which your haters have done in the holy place;

3 (c)Turn Your footsteps toward the (H)perpetual ruins;The enemy (I)has damaged everything within the sanctuary.

3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

3 Make Your way(a) to the everlasting ruins,to all that the enemy has destroyed in the sanctuary.(E)

3 Hurry! Look at the permanent ruins every calamity the enemy brought upon the Holy Place.

4 Sending out their voices like lions among your worshippers; they have put up their signs to be seen.

4 Your adversaries have (J)roared in the midst of Your meeting place;They have set up their (K)own (d)standards (L)for signs.

4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.

4 Your adversaries roared in the meeting placewhere You met with us.(b)They set up their emblems as signs.(F)

4 Those who are opposing you roar where we were meeting with you; they unfurl their war banners as signs.

5 They are cutting down, like a man whose blade is lifted up against the thick trees.

5 It seems as if one had lifted upHis (e)(M)axe in a (f)forest of trees.

5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

5 It was like men in a thicket of trees,wielding axes,(G)

5 As one blazes a trail through a forest with an ax,

6 Your doors are broken down with hammers and iron blades.

6 And now (g)all its (N)carved workThey smash with hatchet and (h)hammers.

6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

6 then smashing all the carvingswith hatchets and picks.(H)

6 now they're tearing down all its carved work with hatchets and hammers.

7 They have put on fire your holy place; they have made the place of your name unclean, pulling it down to the earth.

7 They have (i)(O)burned Your sanctuary (j)to the ground;They have (P)defiled the dwelling place of Your name.

7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

7 They set Your sanctuary on fire;they utterly(c) desecratedthe dwelling place of Your name.(I)

7 They burned your sanctuary to the ground, desecrating your dwelling place.

8 They have said in their hearts, Let us put an end to them all together; they have given over to the fire all God's places of worship in the land.

8 They (Q)said in their heart, “Let us (k)completely (l)subdue them.”They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

8 They said in their hearts,“Let us oppress them relentlessly.”They burned down every place throughout the landwhere God met with us.(d)(J)

8 They say to themselves, "We'll crush them completely;" They burned down all the meeting places of God in the land.

9 We do not see our signs: there is no longer any prophet, or anyone among us to say how long.

9 We do not see our (R)signs;There is (S)no longer any prophet,Nor is there any among us who knows (T)how long.

9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

9 There are no signs for us to see.There is no longer a prophet.And none of us knows how long this will last.(K)

9 We see no signs for us; there is no longer a prophet, and no one among us knows the future.

10 O God, how long will those who are against us say cruel things? will the hater go on looking down on your name for ever?

10 How long, O God, will the adversary (U)revile,And the enemy (V)spurn Your name forever?

10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

10 God, how long will the enemy mock?Will the foe insult Your name forever?(L)

10 God, how long will the adversary scorn while the enemy despises your name endlessly?

11 Why are you keeping back your hand, and covering your right hand in your robe?

11 Why (W)do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand?From within Your bosom, (X)destroy them!

11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.

11 Why do You hold back Your hand?Stretch out(e) Your right hand and destroy them!(M)

11 Why do you not withdraw your hand your right hand from your bosom and destroy them?

12 For from the past God is my King, working salvation in the earth.

12 Yet God is (Y)my king from of old,Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.

12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

12 God my King is from ancient times,performing saving acts on the earth.(N)

12 But God is my king from ancient times, who brings acts of deliverance throughout the earth.

13 The sea was parted in two by your strength; the heads of the great sea-beasts were broken.

13 (m)You (Z)divided the sea by Your strength;(n)You (AA)broke the heads of the (AB)sea monsters (o)in the waters.

13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

13 You divided the sea with Your strength;You smashed the heads of the sea monsters in the waters;(O)

13 You split the sea by your own power. You shattered the heads of sea monsters in the water.

14 The heads of the great snake were crushed by you; you gave them as food to the fishes of the sea.

14 (p)You crushed the heads of (q)(AC)Leviathan;(r)You gave him as food for the (s)creatures (AD)of the wilderness.

14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan;You fed him to the creatures of the desert.(P)

14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan. You set it as food for desert creatures.

15 You made valleys for fountains and springs; you made the ever-flowing rivers dry.

15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

16 The day is yours and the night is yours: you made the light and the sun.

17 By you all the limits of the earth were fixed; you have made summer and winter.

17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

18 Keep this in mind, O Lord, that your haters have said cruel things, and that your name has been looked down on by a people of evil behaviour.

18 Remember this, (aa)O Lord, that the enemy has (AJ)reviled,And a (AK)foolish people has spurned Your name.

18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

18 Remember this: the enemy has mocked Yahweh,and a foolish people has insulted Your name.(U)

18 Remember this: The enemy scorns the LORD and a foolish people despises your name.

19 O give not the soul of your dove to the hawk; let not the life of the poor go out of your memory for ever.

19 Do not deliver the soul of Your (AL)turtledove to the wild beast;(AM)Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.

19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

19 Do not give the life of Your dove to beasts;(f)do not forget the lives of Your poor people forever.(V)

19 Don't hand over the life of your dove to beasts; do not continuously forget your afflicted ones.

20 Keep in mind your undertaking; for the dark places of the earth are full of pride and cruel acts.

20 Consider the (AN)covenant;For the (AO)dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.

20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

20 Consider the covenant,(W)for the dark places of the land are full of violence.(X)

20 Pay attention to your covenant, for the dark regions of the earth are full of violence.

21 O let not the crushed be turned back in shame; let the low man and the poor give praise to your name.

21 Let not the (AP)oppressed return dishonored;Let the (AQ)afflicted and needy praise Your name.

21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.

21 Do not let the oppressed turn away in shame;let the poor and needy praise Your name.(Y)

21 Don't let the oppressed return in humiliation. The poor and needy will praise your name.

22 Up! O God, be the judge of your cause; keep in mind the bitter things which the man of evil behaviour says against you every day.

22 Arise, O God, and (AR)plead Your own cause;Remember (ab)how the (AS)foolish man reproaches You all day long.

22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

22 Rise up, God, defend Your cause!(Z)Remember the insultsthat fools bring against You all day long.(AA)

22 Get up, God, and prosecute your case remember that you're being scorned by fools all day long.

23 Keep in mind the voice of your haters; the outcry of those who come against you goes up every day.

23 Do not forget the voice of Your (AT)adversaries,The (AU)uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.

23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

23 Do not forget the clamor of Your adversaries,the tumult of Your opponents that goes up constantly.(AB)
