A Remnant Of Israel Remains
1 Then, I ask, has God repudiated his People? Never! Why, I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin!
1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
1 I say then, God has not (A)rejected His people, has He? (B)May it never be! For (C)I too am an Israelite, (a)a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
1 I ask, then, has God rejected His people?(A) Absolutely not!(B) For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham,(C) from the tribe of Benjamin.
1 So I ask, "God has not rejected his people, has he?" Of course not! I am an Israeli myself, a descendant of Abraham from the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God has not repudiated his People, his predestined People! Surely you know what scripture says in the passage called 'Elijah'? You know how he pleads with God against Israel:
2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
2 God (D)has not rejected His people whom He (E)foreknew. (F)Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have demolished thine altars; I alone am left, and they seek my life.

4 Yet what is the divine answer? I have left myself seven thousand men who have not knelt to Baal.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

5 Well, at the present day there is also a remnant, selected by grace.
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

5 So it is at the present time: there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
6 Selected by grace, and therefore not for anything they have done; otherwise grace would cease to be grace.
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
6 But (J)if it is by grace, it is no longer (d)on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

7 Now what are we to infer from this? That Israel has failed to secure the object of its quest; the elect have secured it, and the rest have been rendered insensible to it ??8 as it is written, God has given them a spirit of torpor, eyes that see not, ears that hear not ??down to this very day.
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
7 What then? What (K)Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but (e)those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were (L)hardened;
7 What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for,(J) but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,(K)
7 What, then, does this mean? It means that Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking, but the selected group obtained it while the rest were hardened.
8 And David says, Let their table prove a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a retribution for them;
8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
8 just as it is written,“(M)God gave them a spirit of stupor,Eyes to see not and ears to hear not,Down to this very day.”

8 As it is written, "To this day God has put them into deep sleep. Their eyes do not see, and their ears do not hear."
9 let their eyes be darkened, that they cannot see, bow down their backs for ever.
9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

Israel's Rejection Not Final
10 Now I ask, have they stumbled to their ruin? Never! The truth is, that by their lapse salvation has passed to the Gentiles, so as to make them jealous.
10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

Cursing Of The Fig Tree
11 Well, if their lapse has enriched the world, if their defection is the gain of the Gentiles, what will it mean when they all come in?
11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
11 (P)I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? (Q)May it never be! But by their transgression (R)salvation has come to the Gentiles, to (S)make them jealous.
11 I ask, then, have they stumbled in order to fall? Absolutely not! On the contrary, by their stumbling,(h) salvation has come to the Gentiles(N) to make Israel jealous.
11 And so I ask, "They have not stumbled so as to fall, have they?" Of course not! On the contrary, because of their stumbling, salvation has come to the gentiles to make the Jews jealous.
Gentile Branches Grafted In
12 I tell you this, you Gentiles, that as an apostle to the Gentiles I lay great stress on my office,
12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
12 Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their (f)(T)fulfillment be!
12 Now if their stumbling(i) brings riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full number bring!(O)

13 in the hope of being able to make my fellow-Jews jealous and of managing thus to save some of them.
13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

14 For if their exclusion means that the world is reconciled to God, what will their admission mean? Why, it will be life from the dead!

15 If the first handful of dough is consecrated, so is the rest of the lump; if the root is consecrated, so are the branches.
15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

16 Supposing some of the branches have been broken off, while you have been grafted in like a shoot of wild olive to share the rich growth of the olive-stem,
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

19 Granted. They were broken off ??for their lack of faith. And you owe your position to your faith. You should feel awed instead of being uplifted.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
19 Then you will say, "Branches were cut off so that I could be grafted in."
20 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you (AF)stand by your faith. (AG)Do not be conceited, but fear;
20 True enough; they were broken off by unbelief, but you stand by faith.(Z) Do not be arrogant, but be afraid.(AA)
20 That's right! They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you remain only because of faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid!
21 Consider both the kindness and the severity of God; those who fall come under his severity, but you come under the divine kindness, provided you adhere to that kindness. Otherwise, you will be cut away too.
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

23 For if you have been cut from an olive which is naturally wild, and grafted, contrary to nature, upon a garden olive, how much more will the natural branches be grafted into their proper olive?

All Israel To Be Saved
24 To prevent you from being self-conceited, brothers, I would like you to understand this secret: it is only a partial insensibility that has come over Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles come in.
24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
24 For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
24 For if you were cut off from your native wild olive and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these—the natural branches—be grafted into their own olive tree?
24 After all, if you were cut off from what is naturally a wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much easier it will be for these natural branches to be grafted back into their own olive tree!
25 This done, all Israel will be saved ??as it is written, The deliverer will come from Sion, he will banish all godlessness from Jacob:
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
25 For (AL)I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this (AM)mystery—so that you will not be (AN)wise in your own estimation—that a partial (AO)hardening has happened to Israel until the (AP)fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
25 So that you will not be conceited,(AF) brothers, I do not want you to be unaware(AG) of this mystery:(AH) A partial hardening has come to Israel(AI) until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.(AJ)
25 For I want to let you know about this secret, brothers, so that you will not claim to be wiser than you are: Stubbornness has come to part of Israel until the full number of the gentiles comes to faith.
26 this is my covenant with them, when I take their sins away.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,“(AQ)The Deliverer will come from Zion,He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”

31 For God has consigned all men to disobedience, that he may have mercy upon all.

32 What a fathomless wealth lies in the wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable his judgments! How mysterious his methods!
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
32 For God has locked all people in the prison of their own disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
33 Who ever understood the thoughts of the Lord? Who has ever been his counsellor?
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
