And the Philistines
לָֽקְח֔וּ
lā·qə·ḥū,
אֵ֖ת
’êṯ
-
אֲר֣וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
､ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים
hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm;
of God ､
וַיְבִאֻ֛הוּ
way·ḇi·’u·hū
and brought it
מֵאֶ֥בֶן
mê·’e·ḇen
הָעֵ֖זֶר
hā·‘ê·zer
. אַשְׁדּֽוֹדָה׃
’aš·dō·w·ḏāh.
to Ashdod .

וַיִּקְח֤וּ
way·yiq·ḥū
פְלִשְׁתִּים֙
p̄ə·liš·tîm
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אֲר֣וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
､ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים
hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,
of God ､
וַיָּבִ֥יאוּ
way·yā·ḇî·’ū
אֹת֖וֹ
’ō·ṯōw
it
בֵּ֣ית
bêṯ
､ דָּג֑וֹן
dā·ḡō·wn;
of Dagon ､
וַיַּצִּ֥יגוּ
way·yaṣ·ṣî·ḡū
and set
אֹת֖וֹ
’ō·ṯōw
it
אֵ֥צֶל
’ê·ṣel
by
. דָּגֽוֹן׃
dā·ḡō·wn.

וַיַּשְׁכִּ֤מוּ
way·yaš·ki·mū
אַשְׁדּוֹדִים֙
’aš·dō·w·ḏîm
､ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת
mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ,
in the morning ､
､ וְהִנֵּ֣ה
wə·hin·nêh
and there was ､
דָג֗וֹן
ḏā·ḡō·wn,
נֹפֵ֤ל
nō·p̄êl
לְפָנָיו֙
lə·p̄ā·nāw
אַ֔רְצָה
’ar·ṣāh,
to the earth
לִפְנֵ֖י
lip̄·nê
אֲר֣וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
. יְהוָ֑ה
Yah·weh;
of Yahweh .
וַיִּקְחוּ֙
way·yiq·ḥū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ דָּג֔וֹן
dā·ḡō·wn,
Dagon ､
וַיָּשִׁ֥בוּ
way·yā·ši·ḇū
אֹת֖וֹ
’ō·ṯōw
it
. לִמְקוֹמֽוֹ׃
lim·qō·w·mōw.
in its place .

וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣מוּ
way·yaš·ki·mū
､ בַבֹּקֶר֮
ḇab·bō·qer
the early ､
מִֽמָּחֳרָת֒
mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ
､ וְהִנֵּ֣ה
wə·hin·nêh
and there was ､
דָג֗וֹן
ḏā·ḡō·wn,
נֹפֵ֤ל
nō·p̄êl
לְפָנָיו֙
lə·p̄ā·nāw
אַ֔רְצָה
’ar·ṣāh,
to the ground
לִפְנֵ֖י
lip̄·nê
אֲר֣וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
– יְהוָ֑ה
Yah·weh;
of Yahweh –
וְרֹ֨אשׁ
wə·rōš
and the head
דָּג֜וֹן
dā·ḡō·wn
וּשְׁתֵּ֣י ׀
ū·šə·tê
and the two
כַּפּ֣וֹת
kap·pō·wṯ
יָדָ֗יו
yā·ḏāw,
כְּרֻתוֹת֙
kə·ru·ṯō·wṯ
אֶל־
’el-
on
– הַמִּפְתָּ֔ן
ham·mip̄·tān,
the threshold –
רַ֥ק
raq
דָּג֖וֹן
dā·ḡō·wn
נִשְׁאַ֥ר
niš·’ar
. עָלָֽיו׃
‘ā·lāw.
of it .

וַתִּכְבַּ֧ד

יַד־

the hand
יְהוָ֛ה
Yah·weh
אֶל־
’el-

הָאַשְׁדּוֹדִ֖ים
hā·’aš·dō·w·ḏîm
וַיְשִׁמֵּ֑ם
way·šim·mêm;
and He ravaged them
וַיַּ֤ךְ
way·yaḵ
and struck
אֹתָם֙
’ō·ṯām
[בעפלים]
bā·‘o·p̄ā·lîm
-
､ (בַּטְּחֹרִ֔ים‪‬)
baṭ·ṭə·ḥō·rîm,
with tumors ､
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ אַשְׁדּ֖וֹד
’aš·dō·wḏ
[both] Ashdod ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
. גְּבוּלֶֽיהָ׃
gə·ḇū·le·hā.

וַיִּרְא֥וּ
way·yir·’ū
And when saw
אַנְשֵֽׁי־
’an·šê-
the men
אַשְׁדּ֖וֹד
’aš·dō·wḏ
כִּֽי־
kî-
how [it was]
､ כֵ֑ן
ḵên;
so ､
､ וְאָמְר֗וּ
wə·’ā·mə·rū,
and they said ､
לֹֽא־
lō-
not
יֵשֵׁ֞ב
yê·šêḇ
אֲר֨וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֤י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God
יִשְׂרָאֵל֙
yiś·rā·’êl
עִמָּ֔נוּ
‘im·mā·nū,
with us
כִּֽי־
kî-
קָשְׁתָ֤ה
qā·šə·ṯāh
יָדוֹ֙
yā·ḏōw
עָלֵ֔ינוּ
‘ā·lê·nū,
וְעַ֖ל
wə·‘al
and
דָּג֥וֹן
dā·ḡō·wn
. אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
’ĕ·lō·hê·nū.

וַיִּשְׁלְח֡וּ
way·yiš·lə·ḥū
וַיַּאַסְפוּ֩
way·ya·’as·p̄ū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
כָּל־
kāl-
סַרְנֵ֨י
sar·nê
the lords
פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים
p̄ə·liš·tîm
אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם
’ă·lê·hem,
､ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙
way·yō·mə·rū
and said ､
מַֽה־
mah-
נַּעֲשֶׂ֗ה
na·‘ă·śeh,
shall we do
לַֽאֲרוֹן֙
la·’ă·rō·wn
with the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֣י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God of
؟ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל
yiś·rā·’êl,
､ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ
way·yō·mə·rū,
and they answered ､
. גַּ֣ת
gaṯ
to Gath .
יִסֹּ֔ב
yis·sōḇ,
אֲר֖וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֣י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God
יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
yiś·rā·’êl;
וַיַּסֵּ֕בּוּ
way·yas·sêb·bū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אֲר֖וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֥י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God
. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
yiś·rā·’êl.
of Israel .

the hand
יְהוָ֤ה ׀
Yah·weh
בָּעִיר֙
bā·‘îr
– מְהוּמָה֙
mə·hū·māh
with a destruction –
גְּדוֹלָ֣ה
gə·ḏō·w·lāh
מְאֹ֔ד
mə·’ōḏ,
וַיַּךְ֙
way·yaḵ
and He struck
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אַנְשֵׁ֣י
’an·šê
the men
､ הָעִ֔יר
hā·‘îr,
of the city ､
מִקָּטֹ֖ן
miq·qā·ṭōn
וְעַד־
wə·‘aḏ-
and to
､ גָּד֑וֹל
gā·ḏō·wl;
great ､
. וַיִּשָּׂתְר֥וּ
way·yiś·śā·ṯə·rū
לָהֶ֖ם
lā·hem
On them
[עפלים]
‘o·p̄ā·lîm
-
. (טְחֹרִֽים׃)
ṭə·ḥō·rîm.
and tumors .

וַֽיְשַׁלְּח֛וּ
way·šal·lə·ḥū
אֶת־
’eṯ-

אֲר֥וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים
hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm
of God
. עֶקְר֑וֹן
‘eq·rō·wn;
to Ekron .
､ וַיְהִ֗י
way·hî,
So it was ､
כְּב֨וֹא
kə·ḇō·w
as came
אֲר֤וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
הָאֱלֹהִים֙
hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm
of God
､ עֶקְר֔וֹן
‘eq·rō·wn,
to Ekron ､
､ וַיִּזְעֲק֨וּ
way·yiz·‘ă·qū
הָֽעֶקְרֹנִ֜ים
hā·‘eq·rō·nîm
､ לֵאמֹ֗ר
lê·mōr,
saying ､
הֵסַ֤בּוּ
hê·sab·bū
אֵלַי֙
’ê·lay
to us
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אֲרוֹן֙
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֣י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God
יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל
yiś·rā·’êl,
לַהֲמִיתֵ֖נִי
la·hă·mî·ṯê·nî
to kill us
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
. עַמִּֽי׃
‘am·mî.

וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ
way·yiš·lə·ḥū
וַיַּאַסְפ֜וּ
way·ya·’as·p̄ū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
כָּל־
kāl-
סַרְנֵ֣י
sar·nê
the lords
､ פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים
p̄ə·liš·tîm,
of the Philistines ､
､ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙
way·yō·mə·rū
and said ､
שַׁלְּח֞וּ
šal·lə·ḥū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אֲר֨וֹן
’ă·rō·wn
the ark
אֱלֹהֵ֤י
’ĕ·lō·hê
of the God
､ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙
yiś·rā·’êl
of Israel ､
וְיָשֹׁ֣ב
wə·yā·šōḇ
and let it go back
､ לִמְקֹמ֔וֹ
lim·qō·mōw,
to its own place ､
､ וְלֹֽא־
wə·lō-
so that not ､
יָמִ֥ית
yā·mîṯ
אֹתִ֖י
’ō·ṯî
us
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
. עַמִּ֑י
‘am·mî;
כִּֽי־
kî-
הָיְתָ֤ה
hā·yə·ṯāh
מְהֽוּמַת־
mə·hū·maṯ-
מָ֙וֶת֙
mā·weṯ
בְּכָל־
bə·ḵāl
– הָעִ֔יר
hā·‘îr,
the city –
כָּבְדָ֥ה
kā·ḇə·ḏāh
מְאֹ֛ד
mə·’ōḏ
יַ֥ד
yaḏ
the hand
הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים
hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm
of God
. שָֽׁם׃
šām.

וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙
wə·hā·’ă·nā·šîm
And the men
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
’ă·šer
לֹא־
lō-
not
מֵ֔תוּ
mê·ṯū,
הֻכּ֖וּ
huk·kū
[בעפלים]
bā·‘o·p̄ā·lîm
-
– (בַּטְּחֹרִ֑ים‪‬)
baṭ·ṭə·ḥō·rîm;
with the tumors –
וַתַּ֛עַל
wat·ta·‘al
and went up
שַֽׁוְעַ֥ת
šaw·‘aṯ
the cry
הָעִ֖יר
hā·‘îr
of the city
. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃
haš·šā·mā·yim.
to heaven .
