'Keep Silent' in the Bible

Jehovah doth fight for you, and ye keep silent.'

and if her husband certainly keep silent at her, from day unto day, then he hath established all her vows, or all her bonds which are upon her; he hath established them, for he hath kept silent at her in the day of his hearing;

And Moses speaketh -- the priests, the Levites, also -- unto all Israel, saying, 'Keep silent, and hear, O Israel, this day thou hast become a people to Jehovah thy God;

and they say to him, 'Keep silent, lay thy hand on thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest: is it better thy being a priest to the house of one man, or thy being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?'

and Absalom her brother saith unto her, 'Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? and now, my sister, keep silent, he is thy brother; set not thy heart to this thing;' and Tamar dwelleth -- but desolate -- in the house of Absalom her brother.

And sons of the prophets who are in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, 'Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, 'I also have known -- keep silent.'

And sons of the prophets who are in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, 'Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, 'I also have known -- keep silent.'

Then they said one to another, "We aren't doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household."

For if you remain silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father’s house will perish [since you did not help when you had the chance]. And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?”

Shew me, and I -- I keep silent, And what I have erred, let me understand.

"Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Thy devices make men keep silent, Thou scornest, and none is causing blushing!

Keep silent from me, and I speak, And pass over me doth what?

Who is he that doth strive with me? For now I keep silent and gasp.

Attend, O Job, hearken to me, Keep silent, and I -- I do speak.

If there are not -- hearken thou to me, Keep silent, and I teach thee wisdom.

You have seen it, Yahweh. Don't keep silent. Lord, don't be far from me.

Our God comes, and does not keep silent. A fire devours before him. It is very stormy around him.

O God, do not rest [silently]. Do not keep silent or be still, O God.

O God of my praise, do not keep silent,

A time to rip, and a time to sew; a time to keep silent, and a time to speak.

And they keep silent, and have not answered him a word, for a command of the king is, saying, 'Do not answer him.'

Keep silent towards Me, O isles, And the peoples pass on to power, They come nigh, then they speak, 'Together -- to judgment we draw near.'

I have kept silent from of old, I keep silent, I refrain myself, As a travailing woman I cry out, I desolate and swallow up together.

I will not keep silent because of Zion,and I will not keep still because of Jerusalem,until her righteousness shines like a bright lightand her salvation, like a flaming torch.

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen;All day and all night they will never keep silent.You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;

Considering these [tragedies], will You restrain Yourself, O Lord [and not help us]?Will You keep silent and humiliate and oppress us beyond measure?

It is written before Me:I will not keep silent, but I will repay;I will repay them fully

And the passersby continued to rebuke him, that he should keep silent: but he continued to cry out much more, O thou son of David, have mercy on me.

Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these [people] keep silent, the stones will cry out [in praise]!”

And he, beckoning to them with his hand to keep silent, related how the Lord led him out from the prison: and said, Proclaim these things to James, and the brethren. And having gone out, he departed into another place.

One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, “Do not be afraid anymore, but go on speaking and do not be silent;

But if there is no interpreter, that person should keep silent in the church and speak to himself and to God.

But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.

let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the law also says.
