'Take a Census' in the Bible

"When you take a census of the Israelis to register them, each is to give a ransom for himself to the LORD when they're registered so there won't be a plague among them when they're registered.

"Take a census of the entire Israeli community, numbering them by their tribes and by ancestral houses. List the names of every male one-by-one,

"Take a census of the descendants of Kohath from among the descendants of Levi according to their tribes and ancestral houses

David ordered Joab and the commanders of the army, "Go take a census of Israel from Beer-sheba to Dan, and bring me a report so I can be aware of the total number."
