Matthew 22:23-33 - A Question About Marriage And The Resurrection

Matthew 22:23-33

23 The same day came the Saducees, who say there is no resurrection, and they asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed to his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brethren, and the first, having married a wife died, and having no issue, left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. Last of all the woman died also. 27 Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven? 28 For they all had her. Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

29 For in the resurrection, 30 they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31 But touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac, 32 and the God of Jacob.

33 God is not a God of the dead, but of the living. And the multitude hearing it, were astonished at his doctrine.

Mark 12:18-27

18 Then come to him the Saducees, who say there is no resurrection, and they asked him, 19 saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If a man's brother die, and leave a wife, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. 20 There were seven brethren, and the first took a wife, and dying, left no seed. 21 And the second took her and died, neither left he any seed; and the third likewise. 22 And the seventh took her and left no seed. Last of all died the woman also. 23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them?

24 For the seven had her to wife. And Jesus answering said to them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels who are in heaven. 26 And touching the dead, that they rise, Have ye oot read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake to thim, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. Ye therefore greatly err.

Luke 20:27-40

27 Then certain of the Saducees, who deny there is any resurrection, coming to him asked him, 28 saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If a man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. 29 Now there were seven brethren, and the first took a wife, and died without children. 30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. 31 And the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they died and left no children. 32 Last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife of them is she? 33 For seven had her to wife.

34 And Jesus answering said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage. 35 But they who are accounted worthy to obtaan that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. 36 For neither can they die any more; for they are equal to angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. 37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord, The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; so that all live to him.

39 And some of the scribes answering said, Master, Thou hast spoken excellently well. 40 And after that, they durst not ask him any question at all.
