Matthew 28:1-10 - Jesus Is Raised

Matthew 28:1-10

1 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, as an angel of God descended from heaven and rolled away the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was as lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear and became as dead men.

5 The angel spoke to the women: I know you seek Jesus who has been impaled; do not fear. 6 He is not here, for he has risen just as he promised. Come; see the place where the Lord lay. 7 Go quickly and tell his disciples he has risen from the dead. See, he goes before you to Galilee. You will see him there, as I have told you.

8 They departed quickly from the tomb, with fear and great joy. They ran to bring his disciples the news. 9 Jesus met them and greeted them. They approached and took hold of his feet and kissed them in adoration. 10 Then Jesus told them: Do not fear. Go tell my brothers to travel to Galilee. I will see them there.

Mark 16:1-8

1 After Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices so they could anoint him. 2 They went to the tomb when the sun had risen. It was very early. 3 They asked each other who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb? 4 The stone was very big. Looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back. 5 They entered the tomb. They were amazed at what they saw. A young man dressed in a white robe was sitting on the right side of the tomb.

6 He said to them: Do not be amazed. Jesus the Nazarene, who has been impaled, is not here. He has risen. Behold, the place where they laid him! 7 Go tell his disciples and Peter that he goes before you into Galilee. There you will see him just as he told you.

8 They fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had come on them. They said nothing to anyone for they were afraid.

Luke 24:1-12

1 It was early in the morning on the first day of the week. They went to the tomb with the spices that they had prepared. 2 The stone was rolled away from the tomb. 3 When they entered they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 They were perplexed about what had happened. Two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 This frightened them and they bowed down prostrate on the ground. The two men said to them: Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here. He has arisen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was yet in Galilee. 7 He said the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be impaled, and the third day rise again. 8 They remembered his words.

9 When they returned from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 They were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them. They told these things to the apostles. 11 These words seemed to be idle talk and they did not believe them. 12 Peter ran to the tomb. Looking inside he saw the linen cloths by themselves. He departed to his home, wondering about that which occurred.

John 20:1-9

1 Mary Magdalene arrived at the tomb early on the first day of the week while it was still dark. She saw the stone was taken away from the tomb. 2 She ran to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them: They have taken the Lord away out of the tomb. We do not know where they laid him.

3 Peter and the other disciple went to the tomb. 4 They both ran together. The other disciple out ran Peter and got to the tomb first. 5 He stooped and looked inside where he saw the linen clothes. He did not enter. 6 Simon Peter followed him to the tomb and entered to see the linen clothes laying there. 7 The napkin that was on his head was not with the linen clothes. It was rolled up by itself. 8 The other disciple entered the tomb. He saw and believed. 9 They still did not know the Scripture that he must rise from the dead.
