Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 Now when Jesus came to the district of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of man is?"

14 They told him, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15 He said to them, "And who do you say I am?"

16 So Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

17 Jesus answered him, "You are a blessed man, Simon Bar-jona, for it was my Father in heaven, not flesh and blood, that revealed this to you. 18 Now I tell you, Peter is your name and on this rock I will build my church; the powers of Hades shall not succeed against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the Realm of heaven; whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven."

20 Then he forbade the disciples to tell anyone he was the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 Then Jesus and his disciples set off for the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road he inquired of his disciples, "Who do people say I am?"

28 "John the Baptist," they told him, "though some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the prophets."

29 So he inquired of them, "And who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Christ."

30 Then he forbade them to tell anyone about him.
