Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

¹³ Now when Jesus came to the district of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of man is?"

¹⁴ They told him, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

¹⁵ He said to them, "And who do you say I am?"

¹⁶ So Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

¹⁷ Jesus answered him, "You are a blessed man, Simon Bar-jona, for it was my Father in heaven, not flesh and blood, that revealed this to you. ¹⁸ Now I tell you, Peter is your name and on this rock I will build my church; the powers of Hades shall not succeed against it. ¹⁹ I will give you the keys of the Realm of heaven; whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven."

²⁰ Then he forbade the disciples to tell anyone he was the Christ.

²⁷ Then Jesus and his disciples set off for the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road he inquired of his disciples, "Who do people say I am?"

²⁸ "John the Baptist," they told him, "though some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the prophets."

²⁹ So he inquired of them, "And who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Christ."

³⁰ Then he forbade them to tell anyone about him.
