Luke 9:18-20 - Peter's Confession

¹⁸ One day having retired alone to prayer, he came to his disciples, and ask'd them, saying, whom do the people judge me to be?

¹⁹ they answered, some say you are John the Baptist: others, Elias: and others, that you are one of the old prophets appearing again.

²⁰ but who, said he, do you think I am? Peter answered, you are the Messiah of God.

⁶⁶ From that time many of his disciples withdrew, and associated no longer with him. ⁶⁷ upon which Jesus said to the twelve, will not ye likewise go away?

⁶⁸ but Simon Peter answered, Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ and we have believed and we have acknowledged that you are the Christ, the son of God.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, have I not chosen you all twelve, and yet one of you is an avowed enemy? ⁷¹ meaning Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that would betray him, altho' he was one of the twelve.
