Easton
(as a punishment), a mark of infamy inflicted on the dead bodies of criminals (De 21:23) rather than our modern mode of punishment. Criminals were first strangled and then hanged (Nu 25:4; De 21:22). (See 2Sa 21:6 for the practice of the Gibeonites.)
Hanging (as a curtain). (1.) Heb masak, (a) before the entrance to the court of the tabernacle (Ex 35:17); (b) before the door of the tabernacle (Ex 26:36-37); (c) before the entrance to the most holy place, called "the veil of the covering" (Ex 35:12; 39:34), as the word properly means.
(2.) Heb kelaim, tapestry covering the walls of the tabernacle (Ex 27:9; 35:17; Nu 3:26) to the half of the height of the wall (Ex 27:18; comp. Ex 26:16). These hangings were fastened to pillars.
(3.) Heb bottim (2Ki 23:7), "hangings for the grove" (R.V., "for the Asherah"); marg., instead of "hangings," has "tents" or "houses." Such curtained structures for idolatrous worship are also alluded to in Eze 16:16.

The length of each plank is to be 15 feet, and the width of each plank 27 inches.
"For the entrance to the tent you are to make a screen embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. Make five posts of acacia wood for the screen and overlay them with gold; their hooks are to be gold, and you are to cast five bronze bases for them.
"You are to make the courtyard for the tabernacle. [Make the hangings] on the south of the courtyard out of finely spun linen, 150 feet long on that side.
The length of the courtyard is to be 150 feet, the width 75 [feet] at each end, and the height seven and a half feet, [all of it made] of finely spun linen. The bases of the posts must be bronze.
the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the veil for the screen;

The Lord said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the Lord so that His burning anger may turn away from Israel."
"If anyone is found guilty of an offense deserving the death penalty and is executed, and you hang his body on a tree, you are not to leave his corpse on the tree overnight but are to bury him that day, for anyone hung [on a tree] is under God's curse. You must not defile the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

He also tore down the houses of the male shrine prostitutes that were in the Lord's temple, in which the women were weaving tapestries for Asherah.
You took some of your garments and made colorful high places for yourself, and you engaged in prostitution on them. These places should not have been built, and this should never have happened!
Fausets
Criminals were usually put to death before hanging, for ignominy (Jos 10:26). The bodies were removed before nightfall in order not to defile the land (De 21:22-23). Hence our Lord's body as those of the two thieves was taken from the cross before the "high day" of the approaching "sabbath" (Joh 19:31).
