frequently referred to by the sacred writers (Na 1:3-6). Thunder and lightning are spoken of as tokens of God's wrath (2Sa 22:15; Job 28:26; 37:4; Ps 135:7; 144:6; Zec 9:14). They represent God's glorious and awful majesty (Re 4:5), or some judgment of God on the world (Re 20:9).

And He sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and troubled them.
When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning to thunder;
After it a voice roars; He thunders with the voice of His majesty, and He will not hold them when His voice is heard.

Our colloquial use of 'fire' for 'lightning' had its counterpart in Heb., e.g. in such a phrase as 'fire ('
