Beside their servants and maidens, of whom there were seven thousand, three hundred and seven and thirty. And they had two hundred and seven and forty singing men and women,

Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah followed them,

Then the two choirs took their stand in the house of God. So did I and half of the officials with me;

So we went on with the work: and half of them had spears in their hands from the dawn of the morning till the stars were seen.

And the second praised going about to the front, and I after it, and, half the people above to the wall, above to the tower of the furnaces and even to the broad wall;

The children of Adonikam, six hundred and seven and threescore;

The children of Bigvai, two thousand, and seven and threescore;

The children of Pashhur, a thousand, two hundred and seven and forty;

And the other people gave twenty thousand drams, and two thousand pound of silver, and seven and three score priests' garments.

Next to them Rephaiah the son of Hur, the official of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs.

After him the Levites carried out repairs under Rehum the son of Bani. Next to him Hashabiah, the official of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district.

After him their brothers carried out repairs under Bavvai the son of Henadad, official of the other half of the district of Keilah.

Shallum son of Hallohesh, head of a half-district of Jerusalem, worked on the section adjacent to him, assisted by his daughters.

So we rebuilt the wall until the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had the will to keep working.

Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod or the language of one of the other peoples but could not speak Hebrew.
