Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit; so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we have no need to say anything.

As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we call those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against your soul. Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the supreme authority, read more.
or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a covering for evil; live as servants of God. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are overbearing. For a man is approved if, mindful of God, he bears up under pain while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you patiently endure? But if when you do right and suffer for it you patiently endure, you have favor with God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, and were submissive to their own husbands; just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and are not frightened by any fear.

When we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will hardly die for a righteous manthough perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. read more.
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved through him from the wrath of God.

For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.

For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. read more.
But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
