Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.' No,' they replied. 'There won't be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' But while they had gone to buy it, the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding banquet. Then the door was shut. Later, the other virgins came too, saying, 'Lord, lord! Let us in!' But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I do not know you!'


A wise person is cautious and turns from evil, but a fool throws off restraint and is overconfident.


The one who conceals hatred utters lies, and the one who spreads slander is certainly a fool.

The lips of a fool enter into strife, and his mouth invites a flogging.





"But as the time drew near for God to fulfill the promise he had declared to Abraham, the people increased greatly in number in Egypt,

"I, the Lord, affirm: 'The time will certainly come when I will fulfill my gracious promise concerning the nations of Israel and Judah.


From the descendants of this man God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised.

When the time comes for you to die, I will raise up your descendant, one of your own sons, to succeed you, and I will establish his kingdom.

He has done this to show mercy to our ancestors, and to remember his holy covenant -- the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham. This oath grants





For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not fulfilled through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace, with the result that the promise may be certain to all the descendants -- not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all


For every one of God's promises are "Yes" in him; therefore also through him the "Amen" is spoken, to the glory we give to God.




Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, gained what was promised, shut the mouths of lions,


"The Lord is worthy of praise because he has made Israel his people secure just as he promised! Not one of all the faithful promises he made through his servant Moses is left unfulfilled!


Yes, he remembered the sacred promise he made to Abraham his servant.




For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God's truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers,
